If Platinum consciously chose to partner up with Nintendo to realize their own respective visions then more power to them. It seems Nintendo is fully aware that certain developers have high prestige over others and that partnering up with them to create exclusive experiences is exactly the kind of thing they need to push their console to a certain demographic. The Wonderful 101 should really be the star of the show here while Bayonetta 2 is the icing on the cake.
Once the Wii U takes off this is the kind of partnership one can expect to extend onto multiple developers since it's all about the exclusive experiences.
It's really about cultivating an audience. Only Nintendo can do that. And they have to bring/develop more than just Bayo2. That's the start.
If they cultivate the audience, then the developer support will follow naturally, whether it is a Nintendo-OtherStudio collaboration or an independent third party project.
Beyond your basic Mario, Zelda and a few other games, Nintendo really only makes a few niche titles that certain gamers are interested in. I do all my other gaming on PS3 and PC. Some gamers will gladly gobble up all the Mario, Zelda, DK, Yoshi, Mario Party, Mario Strikers games that Kirby can suck up.
But there are others who buy a Nintendo system for what Nintendo brings but doesn't jump in the deep end, and they are still interested in the side offerings. Expanding these would be nice. And once you expand them, you will find more gamers outside the Nintendo fold coming along for the ride.
Bayo 2, 'X', SMT x FE are all great. But I really want a regular schedule of these games. At least two per year. They don't have to be expensive to make or have large production value.
If they don't do that, then Nintendo bringing over Bayonetta 2 has to be the most short sighted move they've ever made.
Somehow I think Wii U might be the platform for genres that will be nonexistence on PS4/Xbone like well Bayo or AR. Nintendo should really try to get more of those. I end up buying PS4 and Wii U anyway for variety.
I'm not sure about that. To me, the PS3 fills the exact need you just described. At least for the PS360Wii generation. Nintendo support in this realm has been hit or miss.
