Where's the Platinum Games love?

Oh dear!

This has been a really interesting day here on GAF with this and the "So under which scenarios could we see Bayonetta 2 go multiplatform?" thread.

Platinum does indeed get a lot of love around here. It is just some of it is expressed in other ways. Like port begging.

The need to put themselves in better position when it comes to publishers. The mistake of letting Sega handle the Ps3 port, and now this. . I guess when you are a small studio, you do what it takes to pay the bills. I will forgive all the previous mistakes though if Bayo 2 ends up on PC/PS4. As for PG not getting any love. I love Bayo 2 so much it hurts everytime I think about it being a Wii U exclusive. Every screenshot, every video, just adds to the pain.

The game would literally not have been developed this far without nintendo's funding. As far as we can tell your options were the current situation, or bayonetta 2 does not exist at all.

It's the face-off between GAF's two strongest feelings:
THE HATRED OF NINTENDO

VS.

THE LOVE OF PLATINUM GAMES

For those of us with good taste, it's just a marriage made in heaven.

I love how these people talk about how unbearable the pain of not being able to play Bayonetta is, as if there's nothing they can do about it.

Right now, I'm not interested in getting a Wii U. However, if Nintendo keeps supporting Platinum like this and Platinum continues releasing their games on the Wii U, I'm interested. I'm just reluctant at the moment, since the Wii U library isn't as attractive to me, so I'll have a lot of time to wait between now and 2014. Bayo 2 and W101 look sick as well, good job, P*.

Oh there we go! A completely rational response. It makes perfect sense to me if these two titles just aren't quite enough to get you to pick up a Wii U. Even were I not a Nintendo fan, I think they would have been enough for me even before I played them just going on my love of previous Platinum efforts. After playing these two games at E3 though, I can safely say that they are some of the best games slated to come out in the near future, and any action game fan should do whatever it takes to play them...

Much love for Platinum and the fact they are always doing new and unique things for the most part.

I am glad Nintendo saw the potential in the Bayonetta series and have id to revive it after Sega threw it in the trash. Now Nintendo just needs to put a lock on the franchise going forward and get Sega out of the picture entirely.

I've loved P* ever since they were called Clover Studio.

Also I plan on getting Bayo 2, since we're getting a Wii U sometime over the summer.

LOL. Nintendo is helping to finance the game.

Doesn't change the fact that they are in this position because they chose to do business with Sega. Doing business with Sega is like taking a loan from a loan shark. They have screwed over consumer and developers alike. They do cutthroat work on games (Bayo 1 PS3 is not the only example of poor quality). They've ruined cherished IPs like golden axe, knights, sonic, etc. They are in the red year after year. Because sega owned the rights to the Bayo IP and killed, PG was in a position that required a buy out. Of course no sane corporation would acquire the Bayo IP through buy out, then not fund the publishing/and or development of said IP. That would make no sense whatsoever. So I stand by my original statement- PG needs to handle IP better in the future.

Buying WiiU when Bayonetta 2 is out but ill buy The Wonderful 101 at day one to play it on a friend's console. Ill go where Platinum goes just like I did when I bought the Gamecube for the Resident games.

Lol@ "PG sold out!", at least be honest about not truly caring about PG because to you its only a bulletpoint on your console wars slideshow that you were forced to erase.

You really don't understand anything about this whole situation, do you?

It's like complaining about how lonely you are when there's a girl right next to you asking you out on a date. And that girl is Bayonetta.

Sonic is still alive! His newest game, which looks awesome, is pretty much Sonic Galaxy!

Exclusive to WiiU/3DS :)

Platinum games lost me when they decided to go corporate and take a handout from Nintendo and go WiiU.

Well, explain it to me, if you please.

Platinum was founded and they had nothing.

Sega agreed to fund and publish some of their games. As is always the case when development is funded by a publisher, the publisher retains the rights to the IP.

And the second half of your post is just a salad of words you don't quite understand.

Real talk.

Even if you don't want to drop ~$300, you could always just wait a few years for the price to drop quite a bit or just borrow a friend's system or something.

Goddamn...

It's like complaining about how lonely you are when there's a girl right next to you asking you out on a date. And that girl is Bayonetta.

Ahahahaha. That got me.

Just to be clear: people do understand that the choice was Bayonetta 2 on Wii U or no Bayonetta 2 at all? I mean I can understand that Wii U is not your platform of choice. It's not mine either. There's just this thing that Bayonetta 2 is getting made thanks to Nintendo. Reward for that is exclusivity. It's as simple as that. Maybe you're not planning on buying Wii U and this one game won't make you change your mind but still the Bayonetta 2 gets made and isn't it a thing to be happy about? You could loan the console or maybe even bite the bullet and buy the thing. I can't imagine it being all that expensive when Bayonetta 2 actually comes out.

Isn't the answer to that obvious now?

The fact that people are complaining instead of thanking Nintendo for saving a game is utterly depressing.

You just said what I said.

Believe me I do hate Nintendo from the bottom of my soul. But think about it : Bayo 2 not existing makes me just a little sad, but Bayo 2 existing and out of reach is some giant frustration.

I know this guy is banned already, but seriously, what's up with this statement? For anybody else with this mentality: The game is perfectly within your reach. You just have to buy the system...

You don't even have to do that. I mean really spending $300 or more.

You could just buy Wii U when Bayonetta 2 comes out. And after playing it ... right ... sell both Bayonetta 2 + Wii U. I know incredible isn't it. Because Wii U is no Xbone.

I did exactly that when MGS4 got released. Got completely disappointed by it, but hey - I didn't really spend 400 or 500EUR+ to play it.

"I would do anything for love
of Bayonetta
, but I won't do that
(buy a Nintendo console).

They make awesome games but I do hope that in the future they explore more gameplay mechanics since Bayonetta, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising all use slow motion as the 'special' mechanic, its like they can't come up with anything else.

I've been playing video games since the Master System, owned a lot of different consoles but never a Nintendo one. I still don't mind buying a Wii U for Bayonetta 2. By the time the game is released, the Wii U will cost less than it does now. And while I'm not exactly waiting for the next Mario or Zelda, there are at least a few other games on the Wii U aside from Bayonetta 2 that look interesting enough. It could have been much worse. We could have gotten no sequel at all, or Microsoft could have made it exclusive for Xbox One. Nintendo has my thanks for believing in the franchise when Sega didn't.

Look at Wonderful 101 if you want to see new mechanics. No slow-mo anything, and instead endlessly zany, creative action gameplay. Bayonetta 2 also introduces the Umbran Climax mechanic which really does work wonderfully as a release of tension (just like Inaba was stressing in the Developer Direct). Means there is far less focus on Witch Time than there was in the first game.

It doesn't matter what publisher they went to. There isn't one in existence that would fully finance a new IP from an independent studio without getting the IP rights out of it.

Yes it does matter. Sega was not financially solvent. They had a massive downsizing, and did not have the manpower/resource to fund a sequel. If Bayo 1 had a more financially stable publisher, Bayo 2 likely would have been multiplat. I'm not blaming PG, as this was as good a scenario as they could likely find at the time. But in the future, they need to position themselves better. It's easier said than done obviously.

Play Bayonetta on the higher difficulties. No Witch Time.

Here we go round and round the goddamn mulberry bush.

I almost feel there should be certain things you must prove to be aware of before being allowed to post on GAF, such as:

Bayonetta 2 would not exist without Nintendo.

Platinum can't handle IP better. The industry only works that way for devs with the money to largely self-fund to begin with.

That's why I said "in the future". There's no doubt PG is/will be in a better position than a few years ago. Doing buisiness with Sega may have been the only option, but sometimes there are no good options. PG even apologized for the letting Sega handle the PS3 port. When you have to apologize on behalf of a business partner, it means you got involved with the wrong people, one way or another.

I think most people know that, but on the Wii U, Bayonetta 2 is probably destined to not do very well.

Sega's been financially secure ever since they got bought. They're not in the business of losing money, however, which is why they finally cut everything that wasn't a guaranteed success. You can make an argument for how good they actually are to work with and quality of support, but I doubt anyone else was willing to risk funds for several titles at once.

All those damn Viewtiful Joe wannabes :p

Here I am really wanting to talk about Bayonetta 2 as a game but everywhere is just plagued with "Woe is me, I am an oppressed gamer because of this betrayal" bullshit.

Man

More and more I feel like the gaming industry would be better without gamers

It would collapse in two months but it would be a great two months.

Why not? The Wii U is a great systems with great games already on it and a lot of great games coming out, among which is Bayonetta 2.

I can see it doing very well. It'll get a lot of marketing, too, I believe (due to Nintendo).

Doesn't matter does it? Better to not do very well than to not exist.

Well most people here probably would prefer it to fail because it wouldn't exactly bode good for future exclusive Wii U Platinum titles. If however it does relatively good then how deep can this partnership go? I don't think the extent of it is just these two titles.

The way I see it, not enough people who are interested in this game or Wonderful 101 own Wii Us... or just in general, not enough people own Wii Us, so games like these may get ignored while the normal first party stuff like Mario/Smash will sell millions (or however many Wii Us have been sold worldwide) as expected.

Xbox one isnt the console gamers want but the one they deserve.

I guess it may feel less worth it to get a console for their game, because I know a lot of gamers may say "quality of quantity" and agree that a good experience can outweigh a very short length rather than a mediocre timesink, but once console buying money comes into play you can't help taking into account things like how much time of play you will get out of it. Well if you want a fine hour eater there is always MH3U to back you up, with all three you can ride the months out until SSB or 'X' or whatever else is surely coming up

How many interesting games does constitute a console purchase? The term "killer app" implies there are many cases where it is just 1. If two from Platinum isn't enough, your Platinum love must not be pure.
