Which Dark Souls boss killed you the most?

The Stray Demon actually gave me way more trouble than any of the other bosses. Probably because I'd go in a bit too overconfident and then die a stupid death.
Then the frustration kicks in and that causes even more deaths.

Demons Souls - Flamelurker/Maneaters

Dark Souls - Ornstein & Smough

Dark Souls II - Ruin Sentinels/Smelter Demon/Ancient Dragon

Dark Souls only? Certainly none like Old King Allant.

Oh that one Knight in Anor Londo with the bow who knocks you off the ledge. That guy killed me dozens of times, more than any boss.

Belfry Gargoyles, although I think that's mostly down to the fact that I was awful at that point

Gwyn got himself stuck

Capra Demon, by a huge margin, probably the only boss that took me more than 10 tries to beat.

Since I'm at it, the only bosses I managed to beat in one try on my first playthrough (hadn't played Demon's Souls before, for that matter) were: Quelaag, Iron Golem, Sif, Pinwheel, Firesage Demon and Seath. What about you guys?

Dark Souls 2: L
ast
G
aint
for sure. Only cause I was new to the series and took me a while to get the dodging mechanics. Prob died 20 times in a row before finally getting that boss.

First playthrough because the others don't count with a question like this.

Ornstein and Smough
Gwyn (something to do with marathoning the end of the game and fighting him at 3 in the morning, I'm sure)
Priscilla (yeah, somehow. Her invisibility gimmick killed me a LOT my first playthrough)

Then get out of this thread. You're desire for no spoilers is not our problem. Why would you think this would be a spoiler free thread is beyond me.

Um, excuse me, but no. OP specifically said do not post DS2 bosses.

Have some respect for those waiting patiently to be able to play on their chosen platform.

I think it was probably Dragon Slayer Ornstein & Executioner Smough. I fought them on my own though. I pretty much fought all the bosses on my own.

It's difficult on your own because obviously you are fighting two enemies at the same time, and once you kill one of them the other one becomes even more powerful. It seems almost impossible at first, but like every boss in the game, it is about learning their attack patterns. Once I learned their attack patterns and had the right strategy, they didn't seem that hard at all.

It's for that reason, i don't really know which is the hardest boss in the game. Once you figure out how to defeat them, you realise they're not nearly as hard as you thought.

Sanctuary Guardian.

beat manus on my first try and Gwyn went down as soon as someone told me i could parry him.

but those goddamn manticores had my number.

I play solo, O+S with no shield was the hardest, followed by Kalameet w/ tail cut, Flamelurker, and then Darklurker.

Because this is a specifically DS 1 thread (look at the damn title). It's fair to not want DS 2 spoilers in a thread discussing only the first game.

Bed of chaos for me. I cam never get the timing down for the jump onto the tree and she knocks me away.

Also spent a good few hours fighting (and dying) to manus on a SL1 run. Literally jumped around the room when I finally beat him

Responses in this thread are interesting. I just finished the game last night, so now I'm willing to go read more about the game.

For me, it was Taurus Demon by a loooooooong shot (I'd estimate 15 tries). Four Kings would be second. O&S I did on my first try. I guess my only explanation is that I went into the game intentionally not reading anything about it, so, having to figure out everything on my own, I didn't understand how the game worked when I was at Taurus Demon. By the time I got to O&S, I think I may have been slightly over-leveled?

I can see how Gwyn would be very difficult depending on your playstyle/build. I got him on my third try.

Honestly, if you counted Havel as a boss, he'd be a very close second to Taurus Demon. I still hardly knew what I was doing in the game by the time I got to him, and he demolished me many times.

Kalameet, easily. Was trying for the tail and he kept on killing me for about 3 hours straight.
For the record my boss deaths in any boss was 0-3, even killing the supposedly harder ones on first try, but Kalameet kicked my ass so hard.

My victory against S&O (starting with Smough, and then taking down Big Ass Ornstein) was hard-earned, but Manus still takes the cake.
And the Four Kings were a nightmare.

But they were nowhere near Flamelurker in Demon's Souls though. I remember being totally overwhelmed by his relentlessness. So aggressive.

The dragon from the DLC. Spent so many hours working on him. When I finally did it, I just stared blankly at my screen, feeling as if a great weight had been lifted from my soul.

Fake edit: So that is Kalameet.

Bert & Ernie, almost made me summon. Took me a long time, but now I can do it in one if I need too lol.

Other ones I had trouble with were Artorias and Manus, but after I figured them out I can do them easily too. Specially Manus is super easy for me now, can just roll through all his attacks.

The only fight that gives me trouble is Ornstein and Smough. My only solo kill against them is with a deep fire magic build, and even that sometimes takes a few attempts. I have required a summon with every other build.

I have never actually understood the problem people have with Capra. I defeated him on my first try ever and have never come close to losing. I don't even have a strategy other than block and return fire with the halberd.

Smough first is easier, though. O&S for me as well but Ornstein first. Also I was using the lightning spear and Ornstein is resistant against lightning damage.

You know, I've heard people say that killing Smough first is easier, but I don't think that is true. I killed Ornstein first, and actually found it easier doing it that way. Smough is slow and easier to avoid while fighting Ornstein. Of course Smough gets more powerful after that and has the lightning bomb move, but what I found out is, there is way of fighting him without him ever really doing that. The times when he is most likely to do that move is when you hit him multiple times. What I did is equip the weapon that gives the most damage with one single swipe. I then just rolled underneath him when he swung his club, did one hit, and then rolled out again. He doesn't do the move then.

He is pretty easy once you realise this.

Probably Capra Demon or the Four Kings.. I always thought Gwyn was relatively easy based on the rest of the game.

I'm glad I gave up on cutting Seath's tail. He killed me a ton of times while trying to get that awesome sword, but I decided to give up on it after dying more times than with The Four Kings.

Bed of chaos for me. I cam never get the timing down for the jump onto the tree and she knocks me away.
Yeah, most people say Bed of Chaos is pretty easy, but I just can't get it all in one run. I end up dying 3-4 times because the cracks on the floor and the arms keep pushing me off, and whenever I try to jump on the tree branch the damn arms return and stop me from landing.

Dude, you can just spoiler the names of the DS II bosses and then only people who have already finished can go on to discuss it.

I loved the Smough & Ornstein battle so much, I stayed a few hours there helping people just to experience it again and again :)

I think the Minotaur and Bed of Chaos killed me the most.

Probably Artorias. I'm so bad at that boss.
Gwyn hasn't killed me a single time. Beat him in one go every playthrough.

Same here. Artorias is a badass. Gwyn is such a pushover in comparison
once you learn how to parry
.

You know, I've heard people say that killing Smough first is easier, but I don't think that is true. I killed Ornstein first, and actually found it easier doing it that way. Wait what am I even talking about. I did Smough first and it's definitely easier to do Ornstein first because super Ornstein is much more threatening than super Smough. Sorry.

Ornstein and Smough took me the most time to beat, and I ended up summoning at the end.

I knew ahead of time that you could parry Gwyn, which made the fight a lot easier despite the fact that I ignored parrying for most of the game.

Kalameet, easily. Was trying for the tail and he kept on killing me for about 3 hours straight.
For the record my boss deaths in any boss was 0-3, even killing the supposedly harder ones on first try, but Kalameet kicked my ass so hard.

Yeah that was pretty much my experience as well. The only other bosses i dies more than 3 times were Artorias and Manus.I think it took me 6 tries to beat the former and around 8-9 the later.

S&O beat them relatively easy on my third try but i was way overleveled at that point (SL66).

The wolf with the sword in its mouth. Still gets my blood boiling :D Was the only boss where I had to completely change my entire playing style/equipment/etc.

first time through? nito, easily. I know some people say nito is easy, I don't know, but I spent an entire night on him.

Royal Rat Authority from Dark Souls 2 might've taken the crown from Capra Demon for me. It has no run-back time, can end before the real fight even begins (if you get Toxin-ed), and kills me in one to two hits. It also doesn't have the "fuck this guy" safety valve of summoning dudes, because the stone doesn't work in that area.

Oh that one Knight in Anor Londo with the bow who knocks you off the ledge. That guy killed me dozens of times, more than any boss.

this. mother. fucker. i'm still in the middle of my first playthrough and i'm stuck on O&S but godDAMN did this fucker piss me the hell off. that whole section trying to get to the cathedral bonfire basically broke me. i was up at 2am just staring at the screen in disbelief that i'd died yet again. i had to quit for a few days.

I think I'm pretty good at the Dark Souls games. I one-shot Capra, and have one-shot over half of the Dark Souls 2 bosses, the others I died to once or twice.

But O&S is literally the hardest encounter I've ever faced in a video game. I probably racked up 50 attempts against them. I remember when I killed them too, just woke up Saturday morning and beat them on my first try. It was glorious.

e: and I never played the DLC for DS. So no Manus for me

Parish gargoyles.

I still didn't really know what I was doing at that point in the game, my gear wasn't very good and I had to fight 2 guys on an enclosed space where falling off meant death. Even though I had to redo that area countless times it's still one of my favorite parts of the game.

Stray Demon. I fought him early on and he must have killed me about 20 times.

Manus was the second hardest, and killed me about 10 times.

Ornstein & Smough were surprisingly easy for me. I killed them on my third attempt.

I had to change up my playstyle to beat Capra. I was going heavy build at that point with fat roll and a big shield. No way I could be him like that, but once I switched to lighter armor he was cake. No other boss really gave me a problem, but many have been very close and nerve racking.
Never summoned in Dark Souls due to pretty poor internet speed, and being very stingy with my humanity items.
Dark Souls 2 seemed much more simple as far as bosses go. The gargoyle horde gave me a kick in the ass but when I came back I just rushed them and they died like normal mobs.

Cliffs and improper estus use for 90% of deaths easily

Probably Manus. I always mess up his magic attacks. I always misread it and don't use the pendent in time. Think it took me 15 tries to beat him. Didn't think Artorias was too bad in ng but he is a beast in ng+. God, he has so much health in ng+. Didn't have too much trouble with Kalameet but I never went for his tail so that's probably why.

In Demon's, I think it was the
Old King Allant
at the end of the game. He seemed really easy, but for some reason I kept failing to dodge things. I think I was frustrated from him occasionally
de-levelling me
. Most of this game seemed pretty easy to me after having played Dark Souls.

For Dark 1, it would probably be the
Four Kings. I could sometimes get the first one down before the next really got going. After that, they would all just pile on.
I only got past it by abusing Iron Flesh, on recommendation from a friend. S&O, and the Capra Demon were close though. All of them gave me a really hard time. Capra mostly just from me trying to learn to play, I think.

In Dark 2 the hardest boss for me by far was
Mytha
. In fact, she was the hardest for me in any of the three games. Because I had no clue that I could
remove the poison
, I had to do the fight with
her constantly recovering and me constantly dying. Having that sort of pressure on both offense and healing was nerve racking
. Luckily her attack patterns are pretty easy, and she doesn't have too much health.
I knew there had to be a way to make it easier, I was just too stubborn to look it up.

(I never did any of the DLC fights or summoned anyone, or got invaded. I guess that might put some more context into some of these or whatever.)

This asshole.

All the other bosses are simple once you've got their attack pattern down. This thing is just a nightmare and has no place in the game.

Ornstein and Smough easily. I could probably make the run from the bonfire to their room with my eyes closed now.

I was fairly underlevelled and using a shield with very low Stability (I was a newb and had no idea about things like stagger and poise) so I pretty much had to avoid getting hit at all if I didn't want to get staggered and then have Smough smash my face in.
On top of that, Ornstein's armour just looked too cool so I was aiming to kill him last.

I must have died at least 70 times, and by the end of it I felt like an dancer following an intricate series of steps in a very stressful routine. The happiness after beating them left me giddy for a couple of hours.

I played Manus for the first time this week, and he honestly didn't seem too bad.

Bed of Chaos is the bane of my existence though. I love platformers, but this guy always finds a way, always. I just did my third play through and it still took me 2 lives to get both orbs, and about 6 to get to the bug in the middle. I only missed the jump completely once... Two times I died trying to run up the branch, two times he swiped me off after I landed, one time he one hit OHKO'd me right after getting to the branches, and when I actually managed to kill him he burned me to a crisp again making it a double KO.

As far as combat difficulty goes, it's a race between Four Kings and O&S. On subsequent playthroughs, both can be dealt with, but going into those fights blind the first time will mess you up!

Also, I would've never beat Gwynn if I didn't read about reposting him.
