Which Dark Souls boss killed you the most?

Dark Souls:

No summons, melee character

S&O
Manus
Artorias

Demon's Souls:

Its been a while but I'm pretty sure

False King Allant
Man Eater
Adjudicator

DS: Maneater
DkS: Stray Demon/Bed of Chaos
DkS2:
Ancient Dragon

Of these, Maneater was the only fight I considered fun even while it was kicking my ass. The others were pretty boring. I just messed up a lot.

For me it was the Four Kings. I struggled on them more than any other boss in that game. I think it was my build that was the issue though; I did very little damage to them and could not wipe one of them out quick enough and spawned the others.

Fucking 4 Kings.

Until I learned to stay close and dodge their attacks properly and didn't

a) try to coop them, which always fails. Players either forget to put on the ring or are almost instant killed
and
b) try to use that stupid mega armor and almost invincible spell trick, which also fails especially on NG+ and beyond

They are pretty easy that way.

Responses in this thread are interesting. I just finished the game last night, so now I'm willing to go read more about the game.

For me, it was Taurus Demon by a loooooooong shot (I'd estimate 15 tries). Four Kings would be second. O&S I did on my first try. I guess my only explanation is that I went into the game intentionally not reading anything about it, so, having to figure out everything on my own, I didn't understand how the game worked when I was at Taurus Demon. By the time I got to O&S, I think I may have been slightly over-leveled?

I can see how Gwyn would be very difficult depending on your playstyle/build. I got him on my third try.

Honestly, if you counted Havel as a boss, he'd be a very close second to Taurus Demon. I still hardly knew what I was doing in the game by the time I got to him, and he demolished me many times.

S&O depends heavily on what you went in with. If you're a pyromancer with a good shield, the fight isn't so bad. Ornstein goes down fast with a few combustions and Smough isn't that resistant to fire. Magic is also a bit easier because can exploit the pillars to get casts off without getting hit.

Then get out of this thread. You're desire for no spoilers is not our problem. Why would you think this would be a spoiler free thread is beyond me.

I play solo, O+S with no shield was the hardest, followed by Kalameet w/ tail cut, Flamelurker, and then Darklurker.
Woah really,Dude this is a Dark Souls 1 thread Read the title and the op. If people want to post ds2 bosses just spoiler tag them.

Tower gargoyles. After the 9th try I had to use a summon stone in the end.

It was bitter sweet when I finally won though. It was too difficult and then it was too easy. Bleh

For me it's a toss-up between Gwyn and Four Kings. 4K since I always felt rushed to the point of making mistakes, Gwyn because the first dozen times I tried him my shield didn't have enough fire resistance to make it survivable.

Artorias is one bad mo'fo, but by then I was solid enough to take him on. Manus I never fought solo, as my friend and I co-oped the DLC (we did cheer each other on for solo Artorias, though). With a good co-op Manus is freakin' easy.

DS2 junk:
Lost Sinner is pretty much a gimped Artorias, so having done DS1 she's pretty simple.

4 kings have probably killed me the most, though i think ive died more in the bed of chaos fight. Nito's skeletons have killed me a ton as wellm but i dont count them

O&S and Gwyn are easy if you abuse the columns, which I did on my first try.

Manus is difficult as you'd need to be able to consistently dodge his stupidly fast melee attacks...until you learn to keep a distance, roll backwards and jump attack his hand. He's surprisingly easy to kill with sorcery too. His full screen projectile is a bitch to avoid, but it's not a problem with the silver pendant. He got me a few times before I learned the trick.

I'd say 4Kids is the most difficult for me. Whether or now you kill each one fast enough before the other spawns is a combination of luck and efficiency. I ended up being very unlucky.

Artorias got me the most. That thing he does to charge his power was crazy. I was almost never quick enough to knock him out of it.

Even then, he was still my favorite fight.

Flamelurker, level 2-2 newish to the game, first I've played of its genre, start game loads of tough drops then bang crazy aggressive boss. Soo GOood. False King Allant, take note Gwyn, this is how you do a final boss.

First time Ornstein & Smough I was still not that great at the game so I summoned help, but PC version I solo them. Artorias was fun but cake, Kalameet wasn't too bad except for taking his tail with a straight sword. Manus though.... AOE Dark Magic, crazy combo grab, and if you get behind him he can still get you.

Artorias fucked me up pretty well since I went to fight him fairly early on with a 2h/shield meele char.

Once I upgraded my Baulder Shield though the fight because MUCH, and I mean MUCH MUCH easier.

Crazy how much difference upgrades make in this game..even for shields.

From memory, it's between Ornstein & Smough, and Gywn. And reaching even further into my memory banks, I would probably have to plump for Ornstein & Smough. D'ose nasty little feckers

Ornstein and Smough for me. I probably fought them ten times solo before deciding to summon and ended up getting invaded and killed so I set it aside for awhile. I eventually did beat them solo, but I did it the cheap way, by killing Smough with dung bombs. It wasn't very satisfying, but at least I finally made it past them.

Ornstein and Smough.

I mean, I don't even understand how this fight is supposed to be approached. I have enough trouble wrangling with the Dark Souls camera to be able to keep one of them in view. Never mind trying to keep two of them at bay.

I really hope there isn't a similar fight in DS2 (guess I'll find out in a few days). I had no trouble whatsoever with Capra Demon by comparison, the other boss that gets mentioned as being supposedly difficult; killed him on the second try.

Ornstein and Smough easily for me.

Four Kings in NG+ was a snap. I even fought them early to get the extra cut scene. I used Quelaag's Fury with 10 humanity and Power Within. I was waiting for each one to appear I was cutting them down so fast.

Off topic, I really, REALLY hope Demons Souls 2 is in the works for the PS4. However, I sadly don't think it will ever see the light of day - but you never know :(

Kalameet if you're going for tail.

Ornstein and Smough in a legit fight.

Capra Demon, easily.

Capra here too. It's the only boss I consistently summon help on because I just don't want to deal with his shit.

Gwyn was hard too until I learned how to parry. Haven't played the dlc so I can't comment those bosses.

asylum demon

Gwyn was easy ..after i farmed twinkling titanite from the clams to upgrade my blacknight sword + Armour

Manus SL1 run resulted in the most deaths for me - OHK unlike S&O who I could at least take a hit from and chug.

Old King Doran killed me the most at any SL though. Closely followed by Garl Vinland. I had a way harder time parrying in DeS than DaS.

I'm going to say Gwyndolin; however, I'm not referring to the actual boss fight, but rather the fact that he's to blame for the rooftop archers in Anor Londo. -_-

O&S!

Phew, it was pretty difficult the first go around- even getting there, running past those Titans and trying to distance the two properly was so challenging on the first run through!

One of the best feelings ever beating those two. I figured once that happened, I was hooked for gooood.

For Dark 1, nothing comes close to Ornstein and Smough. The runner up, Sanctuary Guardian, had me stuck for a few days. O&S walled me off for fucking weeks. Kalameet really is only kind of difficult if you are going for his tail. Artorias, Manus, Gwyn, Capra, Kalameet (without a tailcut), and 4 Kings were all absolute cake in comparison to those fuckers.

For Dark 2,
I only played up to a bit past the Smelter Demon on a friend's copy of the game, but the Belfry Gargoyles were an absolute nightmare for me. Oddly when I actually managed to beat them, I decided to not worry about targetting them one by one and just aggroed all 6 of them at once.

Ornstein & Smough of course

secound place for artorias, mostly because of that black mist that surrounds him and makes difficult to predict what moves is going to do next

also seath the scaleless, because of his annoying curse 1hit k.o

Gwyn killed me the most on my first playthrough, I demolished him with Solaire's help on my second.

It really can't be overstated how much summoning helps a fight. Even if it's just an NPC who doesn't do much beyond getting the boss's attention, it can be a life saver.

Soloing Manus and O&S were definitely the hardest fights for me. Kalameet was intimidating as all fuck, but not actually all that difficult unless you went for the tail.

btw, i'm talking about DS1, please refrain from posting DS2 bosses.

Guys, seriously. Why are you posting DeS and DaSII bosses?

Also, Stray Demon was a jerk until a realized the power of the Bandit's Knife. Apart from that, Nito was a jerk for a while.

I really don't see how people had issues with Gwynn seeing as you could just parry/riposte and he was dead within 2 minutes.

O&S certainly took the most attempts but was a really fun and well designed fight. Did it solo for my first playthrough but tend to summon Solaire now to save some time.

Gravelord Nito was probably the most annoying though. I got relentlessly murdered until I realised he spams the ranged attack if you're wearing the sunlight maggot.

O&S, also went for killing Smough first.
The same on both for my first run through.
After I forget how many times I finally said fuck it and took Sun Bro with me. The only time I just felt like I couldn't do a boss without summoning an ally.

Which, even though it made it easier, getting there was still ass between getting invaded and the enemies on the way. Aha.

I actually killed Ornstein at the exact same time as he killed me so I didn't get the Wolf Ring even though I technically beat the encounter. I was mad.

I initially had a hard time with the Capra Demon & the Stray Demon, but I figured out what to do after a few failed attempts.

Ornstein and Smough

I found capra demon really easy. Just climbed up the stairs and shit.

I swear, pre-patch, Capra immediately flew out the door and slammed whoever started walking through the fog. Happened almost every time. Probably the most trouble I had on a boss in the game.

During my PC playthroughs, I never saw him do that.. he chilled in the back and gave me plenty of time to strut in and find a spot.
