Which Dark Souls boss killed you the most?

ZbmJjgr.jpg

This asshole.

All the other bosses are simple once you've got their attack pattern down. This thing is just a nightmare and has no place in the game.

This, this was a mess... I felt like it was a chore ... Equip Orange Charred Ring, sprint to the top, equip Havel's, sprint through the Demonic Statues, kill the Chaos Eater up the stairs, drink Estus by the fog wall, slide, hope for the best, die, repeat. What a fucking mess

O&S, which almost broke the game for me (emotionally)

Capra Demon a fair amount, and the dual gargoyles because I was new to the game, and also didnt know about summoning

The Bed of Chaos. I fell through the floor or missed the jump so many goddamn times. Easily my most hated boss fight in the game.

I am proud to say that they Capra Demon has never killed me, despite me playing through the game around 10 times between the PS3 and PC versions

quelaag. turns out the best way to fight her is to stay close. who'd have known? not me before my 46th attempt.

Really? I had zero problems with Queelag but i was always running away and only attacked when she did the magma puke attack. I thought outrunning made her easy maybe i should try staying close next time i start a new game of Dark Souls.

Sanctuary Guardian.

beat manus on my first try and Gwyn went down as soon as someone told me i could parry him.

but those goddamn manticores had my number.

The double Lesser SG fight is probably the toughest melee fight in the game

It means he goes through many boxes of Kleenex every week.

I've been working my way through Demon's and Dark at about the same time, and so far the Capra Demon has beat my ass the most. I felt pretty damn good about myself when I was finally able to beat it, though. Looking forward to the rest of the games.

Demon's Souls:Flamelurker,Old Hero
Dark Souls:Bed of Chaos
Dark Souls 2:Smelter Demon,Lost Sinner.

I had to change to a str build just to beat SD.

I spent days on O&S the first time through. I had an easier time on NG+ with them though.

Also--the archers should count--I still hate them with a fire that burns, even after figuring out the trick.

Definitely Ornstein and Smough. Oddly enough I beat Capra on my first try back when I knew nothing about the game or that it was behind the fog. I remember shaking afterwards cause it was complete chaos.

This is what I love about Dark Souls; the risk and reward. After every boss fight my hand is shaking like I have drank 20 cups of very strong coffee.

Demon's Souls: Old King Allant
Dark Souls: Kalameet (due to the tail), Artorias (I've only met them in NG++ so...)
Dark Souls 2: Dual Pursuers, screw them to hell

This fuckin' guy. T_T

Dat first post. Yep, same here. Well, on my SL 1 playthrough anyway. I lost count of my deaths but I think it was over 50, based on the number of Green Blossoms I had left when I got him. I bought 99 (because hey, nothing else to spend those souls on at this point), and used one before crossing the fog, and rarely lived long enough to use a second one (though sometimes I did). By the time I won I had like 39 left. And my hands were shaking, haha.

Royal Rat Authority
from Dark Souls 2 might've taken the crown from Capra Demon for me. It has no run-back time, can end before the real fight even begins (if you get Toxin-ed), and kills me in one to two hits. It also doesn't have the "fuck this guy" safety valve of
summoning dudes, because the stone doesn't work in that area.
Hah yeah. He's the one boss I dread on every new playthrough. That and the Ancient Dragon, I know the game fairly well now and few bosses scare me anymore, but those two can kill you so fast and they're so cheap I still dread them to this day.

In Dark Souls, not withstanding a SL1 run, that would be Bed of Chaos. I can take on any boss no problem, and usually win first try, but I always need at least 2 tries for that stupid boss. I have to abuse the hell out of that quit-and-reload trick.

In Demon's Souls: Maneaters, probably. First playthrough was pure meleee and boy did I retry them often. Flamelurker took a while too, but I was a noob then. He doesn't scare me anymore.

Perhaps I'm just not good enough in English but how did FROM even come up with such a name? What does Ceaseless Discharge mean anyway?
I'm guessing it has to do with him being the source of the lava in the ruins.

On second thought, Ceaseless Discharge messed me up really bad on my first playthrough. No matter what I did, it would hit me with his multiple limb slam, and if that connected then the second one was undodgeable. With my vitality being under 20,this meant certain death. I fought him at least 20 times before succumbing to the corridor strategy.

I'm pretty sure it was Ornstein and Smough on both of my runs. First time through with a standard sword and shield build wasn't too bad, but was definitely a spot where I ran into trouble. My second run with cestus only I'm pretty sure I have about 80% of my total dealths (100+ on that fight alone) thanks to the duo. Felt so good to finally take them down.

Time for a post from my 1st playthrough noob days:

Ceasless discharge killed me a ton before I found out you could cheese him with the cliff fall or hit his arm in the narrow corridor.

When I didn't know how to roll properly, I was getting one shot by the Moonlight Butterfly magic... lol

Nothing like realizing how bad you sucked... I consider myself a vet now and wrecked almost all DS2 bosses on the first go. Kinda disappointing.

First attempt: Gwyn for me. I decided I just couldn't beat him, and therefore I sort of gave up first try.

Second attempt: Manus.

Dark Souls

Orenstien & Smough: These guys took me several days. The fight occupied my mind even when I wasn't playing and I found myself coming up with new ideas at the weirdest times. Didn't help that it was during university exams and it was a really nice alternative to studying. Finally beating them was one of my favourite gaming moments ever and I just kind of hung around the boss room for a while afterward. Kind of nuts.

Demon's Souls

The Maneaters definitely. I think I just have trouble with group bosses haha

Dark Souls II

I never got stuck on a boss longer than a handful of times, in large part because most of the bosses that I got stuck on I would just come back to later and find them fairly easy upon returning. Still lots of great boss encounters in the game though

yesterday I finally beat dark souls for the first time and the bed of chaos was the only one that made me rage, those are my impresions on most bosses I have read so far;

+ Capra demon, beat it in my first try (just lured him away with that decoy ball of the mage)
+ The duo of anor londo, I was with solaire and the took all the damage while I was nuking them from away
+ the 4 kings, beat them in my second try I just blasted them with souls spears and crystal soul spears, I even got time to heal between each king
+ Iron Golem, Tarkus lure him away and I blasted him

I am sure I missed some bosses but I plan to work on that using the ng+

Edit: Now I remember the Stray Demon in the asylum, that was another one that took me forever to kill

O&S, definitely. There's not a single run where I don't die at least once before beating them, even Kalameet I can kill on my first try now.

O&S. I had to summon for help on NG+, couldn't take it anymore (and I told myself I had beaten them previously so umm, it wouldn't be cheating anyway..)

Capra demon probably killed me the most because i feel like it took me 7 or 8 tries to figure out what was even going on.

Capra Demon, Quelaag, O&S, Stray Demon all killed me multiple times.

And then there was this guy:
One of my favourite bosses of all time but goddamn, he took a couple of afternoons to beat. No other boss in DK comes close to how many times he killed me.

Kalameet
, but only because
I was trying to cut off his tail while trying not to get killed in the process)
.

Otherwise, O&S (I soloed the entire game).

Manus,
I beat on my first try, oddly enough (aka I beat him with no prior knowledge of his combat style).

gwyn :(

spent literally 3 hours going at him.

can't put into words how relieved I was when I finally defeated him

was somewhat disappointed that there was no cut scene intro for him. would've liked one since he's the endgame boss.

Definitely Artorias, up until that point I played a mid-roll character, with a mix of dodging and blocking against every other boss (well besides ceaseless discharge but who the hell doesn't cheese him?). Artorias however completely kicked my ass again and again until I took off all my armour and just learned to roll properly. Even Manus didn't give me that much trouble compared to Artorias, though I would put Kalameet at a close second.

Edit: If we're also counting Demon's Souls then definitely Flamelurker, that guy is fucking relentless. All the people playing DS2 now and complaining about how hard
Smelter Demon
is know nothing. THEY KNOW NOTHING.

Honestly I beat 4 kings first try and O and S were tough but beat em after only a few tries. The real bastard was the fire version of the first boss down in the lava world. My god, I died probably 25 times on him. Lack of patience there

I was actually very disappointed with the Gwyn fight on my first run, it was super fun, but he died way too quickly, my Reinforced Club destroyed him (still my favorite weapon in the game), but that might be just because I went to him right after beating Manus with his shitton of HP, on all my other runs I wasn't bothered by his health at all.

I also had no idea you could parry him on my first run, but on my second I wondered how the hell I thought he was easy without knowing that.

Demon's Souls: Flamelurker - Just too agile.
Dark Souls: Black Dragon Kalameet - Took me awhile to get the timing down.
Dark Souls II:
Ancient Dragon - As simple as his strategy is, I always end up making one mistake. Doesn't help the trek to the boss arena is so dangerous.

Quelaag, had to summon 2 other players to put down that bitch. Ornstein & Smaug and a boss from the DLC (Black Knight Artorias iirc) also gave me trouble but I beat them after a number of tries

Playing Dark Souls for the first time here, just beat Smough & Ornstein. So far Capra demon was ridiculously frustrating (the famous first 5 seconds...) but I would vote for the FUCKING Iron Golem. Was going banana from falling over and over, and over...

And just to share my absolute joy about it (not the bragging sort), it's my first time with the game and I brought down Smough and Ornstein, on my first try ( °c°)
Like I said, no bragging, I had a good soul level, endurance, and vaguely knew the strategy. But still, I couldn't believe it. The reputation of these two bastards was terrifying me.

Haven't played the prepare to die edition :(

But from the regular console release the only one I truly had a lot of issues with was Ornstein and Smough... killing Smough first to get the awesome Ornstein armor

Oddly enough, O&S and the Maneaters have never killed me on any build or difficulty.

Now the Smelter Demon? Fuck that dude. Duke's Dear Freja and Flamelurker can also go to hell. I'm embarrassed to say that the Royal Rat Vanguard also killed me more than 90% of DeS/DS/DS2 bosses.

Kalameet and I just couldn't get along, I came close in my first few attempts (within 1 or two hits) taking him down, after that I never came close. I had to summon, which was still awesome thanks to the guy I summoned.

Demon's: Maneaters - Horrible fight if you're solo

Dark: 4 Kings - Not the hardest, but the cheapest IMO

Dark II: Ancient Dragon - Usurped the crown of cheapest fight in the series from Maneaters, died dozens of times

Kalameet was roughhhh.

Kalameet by far.

Although to be clear this is in regards to cutting his tail, dude does not make it easy and it felt like you really had to hit it past a certain point or it wouldn't register as a tail hit. Definitely the most rewarding tail cut for me and not to mention one of my favorite swords of the game.
