Which Dark Souls boss killed you the most?

Then get out of this thread. You're desire for no spoilers is not our problem. Why would you think this would be a spoiler free thread is beyond me.

I play solo, O+S with no shield was the hardest, followed by Kalameet w/ tail cut, Flamelurker, and then Darklurker.
because OP asked for dark souls 1 and not 2?

Ornstein and Smough killed me more times than all the bosses in the game put together.

Honorable mention: 4 Kings.

On the flipside, I killed Gwyn on my first try.

Stein and Smough, although my most prominent memories of that fight aren't actually of the fight...it's of getting invaded and fucked repeatedly while hiking over to the actual boss fight.

In Demon's Souls it was the false king by a mile.

Moonlight Butterfly. Yeah. i haven't beaten the dragon from the DLC world and it's killed me a lot, but I honestly think I died the most against the butterfly. O&S took me three tries, but the butterfly killed me dozens and dozens of times

Ornstein and Smough made my life the most difficult. There were a few hitches throughout the game, but I was able to take down most of the bosses without too much trouble.

Ceaseless Discharge was kind of a dick.

For me, surprisingly, I had a ton of deaths to Gwyndolyn. I almost always rolled with a really low HP character, and those homing shots could 1 shot me.

Ceaseless Discharge was kind of a dick.

It's funny, on my first playthrough he suddenly died for no apparent reason at the start of the fight. Kinda pissed me off because I at least wanted to see what the boss looked like. The glitch never happened again on later characters and I will admit it was a pretty tough fight until I found my safe spot to win.

Capra Demon. Dark Souls walks a fine line between unforgiving/hard and unfair/bullshit. Most of the time it stays on the side of just being hard and unforgiving, but Capra Demon was just bullshit. When I finally beat him I didn't feel like I overcame a great foe, but instead I felt like i just got lucky that time. And there were a lot of deaths before that lucky run.... a lot.

O&S, probably a dozen times. The only real hiccup I had in the game. The only boss I think the game has that truly requires a good bit of skill, and that merely knowing their routines doesn't make the fight that much easier.

Four Kings, Gwyn, Moonlight Butterfly, Bell Gargoyles, Taurus Demon, Capra Demon, Sif, Quaelag, Demon Centipede, Nito were all one shot deals for me.

I died a few times to Seath (bullshit deaths IMHO), a few times to Bed of Chaos, a bunch of times to Firesage Demon, intro boss a bunch while learning to play, Iron Golem two or three times (falling off edge...) Gaping Dragon a bunch.

Most bosses aren't too bad and don't really require a ton of skill providing your weapons are powered up, you have a good shield and realize that most of them it's best to stick right up close OR stand far far away and pelt them with magic. For several of them I had been watching Speed runs and seen some of the strategies used which made it easier for sure. Then again... the entirety of Dark Souls is SUBSTANTIALLY easier once the element of surprise is gone from it.

Did you run behind the large rock, and come out to smack his hand..thing, and then run back?

Another vote for O&S for me, it took me a lot to beat them on PS3 and then again on PC. On the other hand, I beat them solo on PC, and learned something during my final try that might have make the fight easier if learned earlier; they can't cross columns even after they've collapsed, so you can still use them to protect yourself.

Kalameet was a nightmare to get his tail, so much that I caved in and summoned help for that. He died in seconds after we chopped it off.

I soloed the rest of the game and even Manus wasn't as hard as O&S, although he was intimidating at first.

I also died a lot to Artorias, but I absolutely loved that fight, probably my favorite in the series.

Are you me? I probably died a lot against him, but I was actually sad that I beat him, as I was enjoying each and every try so much. Pretty much every other boss the joy from overcoming the challenge superseded any such regret, but not here.

Me too. Those two fuckers pushed me to the brink of rage quitting the game for good.

I'd played - and completed - Demon's Souls entirely solo. I was going to play Dark Souls in the same way. But the double cunts were too much for my solo skills. From that point on, I did every boss with a summon buddy. It felt like cheating after coming from Demon's Souls, but the game balance of Dark Souls seems to be designed around having assistance.

In the early part of the game, the Belfry Gargoyles and Chaos Witch Quelaag cause me no end of ball ache. For whatever reason, I found the Capra Demon a piece of piss.

Definitely O&S. (I never summoned and was the same level for all the following bosses, as well.)

It may have been because I had a better weapon later, but Manus and Artorias we're not that bad. Kalameet just took a while, but was one of the easier bosses to evade. Gwyn actually gave me more trouble than Manus, I think.

Stray Demon gave me some trouble. I learned to stop being so greedy and back off when he threatened to fart.

Artorias was just straight up godly. He stomped my shit back up my rectum where it was meant to belong. I had to completely change my style of fighting against him (I was a Havel + Artorias Greatshield man-fortress, :lol).

False King. Good lord. Whole stage was ugh. Then you get there, the music, the stat drain, the way he just tosses you away. Raaaage. Mostly breezed through Dark Souls, one that got me the most was probably the bed of chaos.

Seath the Scaleless

He is guaranteed to kill you at least once on every playthough. In addition to that, prior to one of the patches, you did not automatically get his tail after cutting it off, and if you timed it wrong, the item would drop inside the wall or floor, so you would need to suicide and try again.

It was probably gravelord nito on NG+. The build I was rocking at the time was not well suited to him at all. I used Divine weapons on subsequent playthroughs and annihilated him. Four kings can be pricks too.

Ornstein and Smough, didn't really had any issue with the bosses in that game but those two kinda destroyed me over and over.

Once I knew what I was doing in DS, it was Artorias by a lot. I think I may have been under leveled, because everything after that was not so bad.

If I'm being honest though, Taurus Demon. I tried the game after a friend loaned it to me, and came at it expecting God of War (lol, I know). I gave up on it right after getting to Firelink for a few months, then got waaay back into it after reading about the lore. I finally received a copy from Amazon and excitedly started my first real playthrough. By the time I reached Taurus Demon I was into it big time, but let's just say old habits die hard. I was taking risks I shouldn't have, not learning from each encounter, and would usually try to force it. I finally got into the groove of the game, and of course, it's now one of my favorite of all time. I've 1000/1000'd Dark Souls 2, but some of the best parts of the series for me are still Taurus Demon and figuring out the mechanics for the first time. (Through dying. A lot.)

Smough and Ornstein. Must have fought them 100 times, I really believe so.

I have a level 50 overweight bowl haircut cleric called "Anor Lond-bro" who exists just to help people get through Anor Londo, my favourite level (and boss fight) in the game.

All his stats are in faith, but not for lightning spears or wrath of Gods...its so he can cast "Bountiful Sunlight" on the party before the boss door, a health regeneration spell you can share with others that is rarely used and especially so at level 50. He uses a Chaos Longsword as his weapon and casts power within as soon as bountiful sunlight wears off in the boss fight, which is usually timed very well to be when the first boss falls and the 2nd charges up their power. I get a real kick from helping people through Anor Londo. A lot of players are clearly frustrated from dying to the greatbow knights or scared of invaders or whatever and it feels great to really role play as a cleric and reach out to help others.

I've had a lot of funny and crazy adventures summoning there, but one that really stands out is going through the entire level with a guy and defeating multiple invaders together in it. We had a really great session and by the time we fought the boss the host was out of estus. I screwed up and took too much damage from über-Ornstein and died to my power within's drain before I could heal. The host, completely ignoring the boss, ran over to where I fell and bowed to me, not thinking about the huge boss nearby swinging his weapon around. It was clear he cared more about thanking me for the game than whether he lived or died. I was touched.

Man I love Dark Souls.

Killed Gwyn on my first try with riposte o.O They just happened to make the final boss perfectly suited to my playstyle.

It was either Ornstein and Smough or quite possibly the Four Kings..

edit: Though I played the crap out of it on PS3 I haven't reached the new bosses on PC yet, and I'm running out of time :'(

that F$#@r

Probably Artorias. I don't know why, but I had so much trouble with that guy. Oh, and goddamn Bed of Chaos.

It's interesting to note that Manus was one of the easiest bosses for me. I killed him solo on my second attempt, his patterns were super predictable and I could easily block his every attack. Well, having the Greatshield of Artorias certainly helped.

I am at Ornstein and Smough now. I haven't played the game since Christmas as I don't have the time and clear mind to invest into a game like this for the most part.

Reading all the comments is giving me some severely mixed feelings about fighting them. I had a quick go way back when but didn't get heavily involved.

Who is best to get rid of first? Fatty or skinny?

Skinny.

I'll probably be the only one to answer this, but...

Sif.

It really depends on the character builds.Sif is relatively easy for dex/fast builds but he can be quite hard for strength/slow builds.

Too bad the game doesn't keep stats on all your deaths. I've died and died, but these are in the top for me:
Taurus Demon
Capra Demon
Sif
Ornstein & Smough
Gwyn

It's funny how different players have problems with different bosses. For example I saw mentions of Iron Golem and Old King Allant. I think I defeated Iron Golem on my first try and Allant on my third or fourth. I was lucky to have him drain my soul level only once too.

Sif.

I hear people say Sif was like one of the easiest bosses in the game, but for me, I swear, I just couldn't win against him on my first playthrough. Eventually I did, but boy was it a struggle.

On Dark Souls... I'm not certain to be honest. Maybe Ornstein and Smough... I killed Artorias on my first attempt (I watched a video to see his moveset and I was lucky I guess because in my later attempts I usually died to him at least two or three times). Manus I killed on my third or fourth attempt but I can't recall any specific boss that gave me a lot of problems.

But if we can consider Demon's Souls... Flamelurker. By far. No competition at all. If you fight Flamelurker without resorting to cheap tricks he is by far the most difficult boss in all the Souls games.

On Dark Souls 2, I haven't defeated all of them yet. Well, I've defeated all except Royal Rat Authority, but that seems like Sif 2.0 with the curse rats gimmick. I don't recall any boss I had particular issues with.

Four Kings easily, on my first time through I was using a rather tanky build, lots of defense but not a great attack and everyone knows what the Four Kings do if you don't kill them fast enough.

The Maneater duo in Demon's Souls. I am yet to play Dark Souls, my PC doesn't run it well without a dedicated graphic card. ;_;

I don't get why everyone says kill Ornstein first. At least with him you can kind of cheese it by getting between his legs when he goes ham. And Smough has THE WORST attack in the world, the one where he puts his club in the ground and charges at you? He wouldn't stop doing that to me. At all. Plus his electric pound has a much larger range than Ornsteins.

Smough's a dick. Much prefer killing him first.
