Which Dark Souls boss killed you the most?

Capra was the one to almost make me quit and let's add the Anor Archers (not a boss but whatever) because both of them were such stupid ass concepts.

If they tried to pull that again in DS2 I would have stopped right there and straight used the disc as a coaster

4 Kings NG+ and beyond.. Until I got a Crystal Ring Shield, Full Havel and Pyro Defense spells.. I just cheesed the entire fight..

Honorable Mention goes to Ornstein and Smough.. They beasted me for a bit!

I had a ton of trouble with Capra because of my early-game build and actually had to summon someone to help me beat it. That's one of two bosses in the Souls series I didn't solo my first time through :-( As far as straight up difficulty regardless of build quality, Manus.

And since tons of other people are mentioning Demon's and Dark Souls 2: Flamelurker and Smelter Demon (the other boss in the series I had to summon another player for... no 100% anti-fire shield and 5 adaptability made it way too hard for me).

Sif actually killed me a lot. I never realized the fight would be cake if you stay underneath him.. It's pretty rough if you don't follow that strategy unless you are over-leveled like a mofo..

Ornstein and Smough and Kalameet.

I didn't have nearly as much difficulty with the others.

My strat was basically block everything, learn attack patterns, wait for opening and attack. I feel kinda cheesy just blocking everything, next playthrough I'm going to actually try dodging/rolling attacks.

4 Kings, due to some my own idiocy of trying them definitely before their time.

Actually stacking poise, stamina and vit is the bitch way to play Dark Souls.

Glitch and/or lag. Always unblockable and always an instant KO.

Definitely bed of chaos first time through. Died probably close to 20 times trying to make that jump. Gravelord Nito got me a bunch too. I actually looked up the strategy to beat him (throw on a bunch of heavy armor and use a enchanted weapon on the skeletons) which made him cake after that.

Somehow I blasted through Ornstein and Smough solo first time without any trouble, kinda cheesed them as a Sorcerer+BSS poke poke combo.

The Four Kings on NG+ using my STR Zwei build. What a nightmare. Took between 20-30 tries easy.

O&S made me quit for a week. Then I learned about pillars.

Capra Demon + the archers in Anor Londo

Great. Now I'm imagining the Capra & dogs fight, but with an archer at the top of the stairs. D:

This is how it would go down:
Go through the fog and immediately run for the stairs. Parry the archer when he tries to use his sword but get attacked by the dogs before you can get the riposte attack off. Archer recovers, hits you. You freak out and fall down the stairs. Oh, hi Capra!

YOU DIED.

Bearing in mind that DSII is the only Souls game I've played to completion, it's definitely Lost Sinner so far. I also found Velstadt very trying. But then, I've heard from folks who had no trouble with those guys whatsoever. Different strokes and all that.

Likewise, Ornstein & Smough and Belfry Gargoyle are bosses that have apparently given people lots of trouble, but they only took me a couple of tries each. I guess it depends on your disposition and build.

Lol, and I have to mention this fucker too now. Believe it or not, I killed him on my second ever try, thinking the ledge was a dead end, not realising that there was a bonfire just around the corner, and going back the way I came. So I went online and read about the bonfire, and I think it took me something like twenty tries to get past him again.

Same for me, died around 20 times on this boss, lol.

Me too, 20 or so times to those assholes. On my next playthrough it was only once or twice I think...

Artortias got the better of me for a while too, but that was probably only about 5 or 6 deaths.

Probably Manus. Took a while to crack this nut.
Artorias would be a candidate too if he wasn't weird and stopped being so offensive sometimes. =/

What? Lost Sinner is a nerfed Artorias. Did you not
light the torches in the boss arena before entering it?

Probably either Four Kings or Bed of Chaos for me. Four Kings are legitimately hard for me, but Bed of Chaos is more or less impossible to beat legitimately without dying at least once. I did get lucky a couple times, though.

Royal Rat Authority is a son of a bitch, but that's almost entirely due to his four buddies and their tiny hit boxes.

From most hair tearing inducingly frustrating to merely kicked gently in the nutsack frustrating I would go Kalameet, Manus, Ceaseless Discharge, and Capra Demon. I never even beat Kalameet, the asshole. Manus took a just plain dumb number of attempts (dozens!). I couldn't figure out how the fuck to even attack Ceaseless Discharge and so eventually cheesed him with arrows. And while I easily stomped Capra Demon the first time through, the second time through the game (ie the first full length play) I probably got stuck for a dozen+ deaths.

I think the question should be what boss killed me the least. After beating the game 3 times only the Bed of Chaos seems difficult, and that's because you're just meant to die there, no question. But if I think back on my first playthrough it seems I died an equally great number of times on each and every boss in the game.

But maybe out of all of them the Lord Gwyn fight seems like it was the most frustrating. Maybe it's because you had to go through all that area before reaching him after every death. I also couldn't riposte back then, and he seemed impossible for my dex build. I actually quit playing for a couple of months before finally beating the game for the first time.

Kalameet in DS1

Died so many times trying to get his tail before I said screw it and just tired taking him on normally.

More recently in DS2 it's been Smelter Demon until I realized he wasn't the main area boss and that I was still way under-leveled to take him on.

S+O and Quelaag.

I think Quelaag is where I 'got' the game. I died like 8 times on her, she was the first boss that took more than 2 tries for me. But once I beat her everything but S+O was pretty faceroll.

S+O, the first phase was horrible for me, died like 5-6 times on it, once I got to the second though I was able to kill giant Ornstein solo p easily.

Kalameet's tail also gets a special mention, took like 20+ attempts to get it.

Gwyn killed me the most on my first playthrough, I demolished him with Solaire's help on my second.

It really can't be overstated how much summoning helps a fight. Even if it's just an NPC who doesn't do much beyond getting the boss's attention, it can be a life saver.

Soloing Manus and O&S were definitely the hardest fights for me. Kalameet was intimidating as all fuck, but not actually all that difficult unless you went for the tail.

you can summon a helper for gwyn? that i did not know.

- Ornstein and Smough
- Gwyn
- Anor Londo Archers
- Capra Demon
- Manus/Artorias

On that order. All solo of course.

Capra Demon.

The first time I 'fought' him he nailed me in about 4 seconds as I wasn't expecting the attack. I go back to fight him and had him near death but he killed me.

Fair enough, I thought, I know what I am doing and I'll get him next time. I didn't. This fight now turns into a bit of an issue for me. I am now giving it too much thought: I have pretty much lost the fight before even going into the room; the damn dogs; The music is making me a bag of nerves.

I gave up due to a tonne of games to get through but I then bought the PC version. I beat him straight away on my return. Practice does not make perfect.

Early on it would have been Gwynn and Orenstein & Smough. Now that I've beaten the game 20 times, I'd say that it is easily Bed of Chaos. Something almost always goes wrong when jumping down to that root path. I'd say I get killed a couple times each playthrough on the BofC.

O&S, Artorias, Manus, 4 Kings, and Ruin Sentinels. I only play solo unless I am summoning an NPC and only after a playthrough. Most bosses in all the Souls games have one or more builds that make them a breeze.

O & S, but i was confident of beating those 2 on my own and that took a few tries. I cheaped out a little though by using a crossbow.

Definitely Ornstein and Smough. Oddly enough I beat Capra on my first try back when I knew nothing about the game or that it was behind the fog. I remember shaking afterwards cause it was complete chaos.

Lol I guess no one read the OP.

Kalameet and Manus for me. Those guys are damn near impossible on ng+, even with a character level of 354 and the best damn armor in the entire game.

Ironically I managed to beat Gwyn, Capra demon, and O & S on my first try.

Bed of chaos is the only one that made me so frustrated that I looked up a guide.

I swear, pre-patch, Capra immediately flew out the door and slammed whoever started walking through the fog. Happened almost every time. Probably the most trouble I had on a boss in the game.

During my PC playthroughs, I never saw him do that.. he chilled in the back and gave me plenty of time to strut in and find a spot.

Played on PC and first time I saw him I was sure that he just launched right away and one shotted me. It's probably just experience that makes you see the time window better.
