Which game's fanbase has been treated the worst?

I have a hard time believing Mega Man fans are the most mistreated fans in video games.

I have a confession... I subconsciously caused the Mega Man drought. Four years ago or so, I was looking at the glut of Mega Man sequels. They had Zero, ZX, Battle Network, Star Force... Really, Mega Man was a franchise that was milked too much, over and over again. Mega Man fans had a glut of games (granted, not all of them good). And I thought, "You know what? Mega Man really needs a break. They're spreading him too thin." Even back during his best years (the originals and X games) they sequeled him like crazy.

And then, Mega Man got his break. Finally, there wasn't Mega Man Zero X Star Force Command 12 flying out of Capcom's butt twice a year. But what surprised me was how upset fans got. Did you guys really want all these watered-down side games or rehashes of the original?

No, Mega Man fans got more than their share of games, and a large portion of them were good. Now, SONIC FANS. They got a couple good games and then nothing else that would truly live up to their memories. Earthbound fans got ignored for decades. I still believe that Mega Man needed this break.

Exactly, megaman fans got more than a LOT of other fanbases yet they'll still whine about the 'death' of Megaman. Talk about entitled!

Do they yield? Do they look at what they've got and go "Well, that's a pretty good lot, we even got retro renditions of 9 and 10. We've probably got 100 megaman games in total." Nope.

Just "MEGAMAN LEGENDS 3 :( :( :( :("

No "Well it could be worse, we could have no megaman games since the super nintendo era" None of that.

Megaman fans seem to be the worst >:(

Its got to be megaman. I still have a hole in my heart from legends 3 cancellation.

AHHHH capcom! it would have sold gangbusters! There was no games worth playing on 3ds for such a long time. I bought a 3ds just to buy and play the demo.
buying a demo is retarded but I would have gladly become part of the problem for legends 3.

Beck save us!

I've got to echo the Sonic thing. This is coming from someone that has bought and played every Sonic game for consoles that I had, and got to the point where I couldn't make excuses for a lot of them.

I did love Generations, though.

Oh yeah, another one.

Seriously horrible what they did to that franchise.

What franchise? There's only one game.

Silent Hill

Silent Hill 3 comes out, the game is glorious. We ask for another one. They give us Silent Hill 4, which was... meh. It didn't really feel so Silent Hill but it was decent. A few years later (this is where the crap hits the fan).

We get Silent Hill Homecoming. It wasn't so great. Not a lot of enemy designs, and the story was pretty bad. A few more years later, we get Silent Hill Collection. Everyone is hyped as heck to get there hands on it, it's the best game to be on a collection. Then it comes out and.... I don't even want to talk about it. So we plead for another one, and we get Silent Hill Downpour. It was better then Homecoming at least, but it still had a pretty bad story. It also introduced the unthinkable, BREAKING WEAPONS. That was such a huge disappointment.

Then as the last Silent Hill game, we get some dungeon crawler on PSV. Not sure how that game was since I never played it.

So overall, the Silent Hill fans like myself have been disappointed for the past 10 years. The only relief time we had was with Shattered memories, after that it was just disappointment after disappointment.

The only sight we have in another Silent Hill being made after the bad sales of Downpour. Is if that one studio that showed a tech demo of it is able to make a game for it, or if Kojima gets his hands on it (which is very unlikely but he did show interest). If none of those 2 happen, then expect Silent Hill to stay dead or more bad Silent Hills.

I would've said Resident Evil if it weren't for Resident Evil: Revelaitons.
So I will just say that the Mega Man fan base is treated the worst.
Edit: ^ Yeah, Silent Hill fans are poor people. Downpour is a snorefest and offensively bad at everything.

Off the charts presentation and a unique and engaging battle system count as a betrayal? I'm of the opinion that Final Fantasy and DMC fans are treating their franchises badly, not the other way around. The recent entries have been different, and they're not perfect, but they're not without their merits and still probably better than most entries in their respective genres.

On topic: Metroid.

DMC is a 50/50 split. The first year and a half of PR on NT's and Capcom's part was some of the worst I've seen as it not only egged fans on, but was completely contrary to their stated goal (aka "We don't want you to compare this to previous entries" *Proceeds to compare it to Devil May Cry 3*). The fans, however, didn't need to go so batshit.

On topic: You can't say that any one creator or team purposefully torpedoes their own title. Yes, even for Final Fantasy: Motomu Toriyama and Kitase truly believe that what they are putting out is for the good of the franchise. The fact you don't agree is besides the point.

Simcity fans got a broken game that's shit even when it works. They were treated like shit by EA. My vote goes to them.

From the thread, I'd say Sega fans in general, but to be specific...

Sakura Wars. What did Sega want? They all sold like gangbusters - the games, the musicals, tv shows, movies... Even the themed cafe was open well past its prime. Don't wanna localize them yourself? Fine, let Xseed license an old as shit game and port it up FOR YOU, just to get it out the door. Sure, it didn't sell, but expectations weren't high and Sega still made bank. Maybe it would've done better if Sega had released their death grip and let it happen back when the anime properties were over here making serious cash without even the games they're based on to cross-promote.

Oh, but CLEARLY we want a mobile game after a decade of silence. Yeah.

Metroid makes me sad. The last decent game was 6 years ago (MP3) and that was just B+ in my opinion.

The series is clearly headed in a stupid direction and the only group at Nintendo competent enough to make Metroid games anymore are stuck working on unnecessary also-ran platformers. And if you want 2D sprite-based Metroids you're just S-O-L.

Yup even zelda fans get new 2Dish games on 3DS but Metroid is left behind again.

Mega-Man had no less than 10 games released this gen. Even if you only count 360/PS3, there were two and they were well reviewed. I don't get how people can front like there was some drought and Capcom ignored you or did you dirty.

LOL @ Conker's Bad Fur Day being brought up as the fanbase being done wrong. Easily one of the best N64 games ever made.

Not only was SimCity one of the worst product's in the history of gaming, it was the first SimCity game in 10 years and then the developers repeatedly and deliberately lied to our faces for weeks/months about its design. Their solution was to offer new buildings in the form of microtransactions.

Yeah Final Fantasy is kinda brutal, still hope that after I skipped XIII2 Lightning Returns will play real good, but we'll see.

As someone that has never played a Final Fantasy game except the Tactics Advance spin off. What's so bad about Lightning Returns? Besides the graphics.

Definitely Half Life. Valve should just come out and say they aren't making another Half Life game. They clearly have bigger fish to fry with Steam and Steam OS so they only games we'll see out of them are smaller (though still fantastic) efforts like Portal.

Sonic for sure. Sonic 3 and Knuckles is my favorite game ever made and I love all the classic titles and even enjoy the Game Gear games and 3D Blast on Saturn. I think the adventure games are a glitchy mess with terrible level design, controls, and a terrible story.

Heroes and Sonic 4 were both enjoyable games. The Adventure games, Sonic 06, and Shadow the Hedgehog are garbage, and Unleashed isn't much better. Sonic Colors was decent but not an amazing game, but it showed that Sega was still able to make decent Sonic games if they tried.

Sonic Racing was really well made and surprised me, it was a lot of fun. Generations was just perfection, amazing controls, physics, expertly designed levels w/ multiple routes, and really captured the feel of a Sonic game well. I love that game and am still surprised we actually got a Sonic game that great, it was a dream come true for me.

Even the Modern Sonic stages were brilliant and captured the arcade type gameplay and speed of Sonic very well. Sonic Racing Transformed was even better than its predecessor and improved upon it in every way. With recent games that great they could only go up, right?

Then, we got Lost World which is just a complete mess of design that plays nothing like a Sonic game. I hope the series can continue focusing on action based game play with a short selection of very well designed levels, Lost World is a joke.

Because of Dragon Age 2, DA fans.

Due to head-scratching neglect or lack of localization, that is a toughie that I cannot narrow to one game. Shenmue, Earthbound, ZOE, Metroid, Onimusha, Fatal Frame, the list goes on.

Due to fanboy attacks, that arrives at every game's doorstep. All-in all, I would say FF XIII fans.

Please. Some of these fanbases would kill for a B+ game 6 years ago.

Team Ico fans
Final Fantasy fans (at least those who aren't fans of XIII's trilogy)
Onimusha fans
Silent Hill fans
Yakuza (western fans)
Valkyria Chronicles (western fans)

Conker didn't start with Bad Fur Day. He had a whimsical light hearted platforming romp.

Did it really? Those look like cancer/alpha screenshots to me.

Also while I feel a bit unloved by Sega, since they seem to be either after 4 year olds or appealing to unpleasurable Classic dorks. There's always something for me to play.

This gen in particular game me a lot of fun, specially with the fantastic port of Adventure 2.

Also I bought a DS Lite for Sonic Rush and a Xbox 360 for Sonic Unleashed, so fun Sonic games are the reason I didn't skipped this gen. Sega did good.

What the hell at all the people saying Sonic? Racing Transformed, Generation and Colors were all great games. S4E2 was a marked improvement. We just got the definitive version of Sonic 1 on 3DS. The Sonic & Mario games aren't fantastic, but are easy fun for kids and well scored. During the PS2 generation we had good handheld titles to make up for the crappy 3D ones. Basically it's just the four year gap of 2006 to 2010 where it was mostly garbage, and now Lost World.

Compare this to franchises which don't get games, or get Japan-only titles, or announce titles only to cancel them. Sonic is still getting good games - just not every game.

Mmm I was going to argue but I forgot Sonic Rush came out on 2005. Sonic was definitively a worse franchise last gen.

Silent Hill.

Once it was taken away from their Japanese development team it's been crap.

There's plenty out there. A lots been replaced by developers just trying to cash in on new ideas, plus western developers can't do horror right.

How Tameem and NT treated the Devil May Cry community throughout the development/release of DMC.

Rush Adventure was 2007 as well, I'd forgotten about that. Recent years have had console quality improve, but handheld titles getting the shaft.

It's definitely Mega Man.

Getting new, shitty releases in your favourite franchise is one thing.

Getting no entries in your favourite franchise is another.

But being constantly teased about games that are cancelled at every occasion is just on a completely different level.

Megaman fans are such defeatists. Wow, three whole games got cancelled, one potentially good one, a FPS, and a MMO. SFxMM came out last year and MM10 came out in 2010, I'd hardly call the Megaman fanbase mistreated.
