Which game's fanbase has been treated the worst?

Team Ico fans
Final Fantasy fans (at least those who aren't fans of XIII's trilogy)
Onimusha fans
Silent Hill fans
Yakuza (western fans)
Valkyria Chronicles (western fans)

The Yakuza 5 situation is a bit sketchy considering they're leaving us hanging while localising games like Project Diva F, but I'd say SEGA treats western Yakuza fans rather well. I mean we shouldn't even have gotten Yakuza 3 let alone Yakuza 4.

Megaman fans are such defeatists. Wow, three whole games got cancelled, one potentially good one, a FPS, and a MMO. SFxMM came out last year and MM10 came out in 2010, I'd hardly call the Megaman fanbase mistreated.

I'm surprised no one just took Rachet and Clank gameplay and just pasted Megaman into it. Seems like a no brainer. The problem with Megaman is that unlike with Sonic, Capcom isn't even trying to make a main console 3D game. Sure Sonic games haven't being the greatest but it's not for the lack of trying. (Speed+Platforming = Pain in the ass in 3D)

Recently or any time? I would say sonic or Rayman. Rayman has good platformers now but the wait from 3 which was a step down from 2 and a million fucking raving rabbids games was torture and was sure the actual series was dead. Sonic is self explanatory.

SF x MM was made by fans and Capcom "promoted" it for the anniversary of the IPs

Like I said, some games don't even get a chance to get past the PS1/64 era. And they're whining about a few cancelled titles and that capcom is the devil. And they're STILL Getting a MM game via fucking kickstarter.

What about the Kain franchise who had SEVERAL cancelled titles?

Definitely. I was really excited for Twelve Tales: Conker 64, and was extremely disappointed with the changes that were made to the franchise.

You must be the only one.

They aren't used to a few years without any games, uncertainty is scary.

It's definitely Mega Man.

Getting new, shitty releases in your favourite franchise is one thing.

Getting no entries in your favourite franchise is another.

But being constantly teased about games that are cancelled at every occasion is just on a completely different level.

Not only that, but they actually encouraged their fans to do a bunch of free work for MML3 before canceling it.

When the creator of a franchise has to leave Capcom to make a MegaMan clone with the help of kickstarter, that fanbase is far and away being treated the worst.

Capcom's slap in the face to all those Mega Man Legends fans, blaming them for not having interest when there is a massive community actively participating in their Capcom Unity Devroom was inexcusable. There's 4 million dollars raised for a game Capcom refuses to make because of the lack of interest.

While nowhere close to being the worst, Persona 2 fans in the West missed out on the remake of Eternal Punishment.

Wild card

Jak N Daxter.

" hey we might make a game, ... but we decided not to "

When will I get my elven Mad Max again damnit.

Madden

$60 mostly for the roster update that they lock out to sell it every year. Half the time the game actually gets worse. Rarely it looks a little better (sometimes it somehow looks worse the next year too).

Megaman hands down. Not only have we been left out in the cold, they tease us once in awhile just to end up cancelling any game they have in the works.

how many megaman games are there? That you get to gush about? A lot a lot a lot.

I'm not crying for you Argentina Megaman fans. Frankly you guys get what you deserved.

And I even got another one.

Duke Nukem fanbase. Slapped in the face with that Forever game :(.

Never to have a true sequel to 3D?

What do you mean? You think megaman only deserves the spot because capcom won't make more games? Please.
You want to call your particular brand the most abused fanbase? Try having your publisher announce and show several different super promising concepts[including a fan much wished for sequel to a spin off that was over a decade out], and then cancel them one after the other. Than being told it's your fault they canceled them.
Then, when the original directer asks to make a sequel, watch them turn him away without a thought about it.[infact, even firing him for his insistence on the series in the first place{conjecture, though only slightly}]
Then, then you can say you have the most abused fanbase. Instead of just whining 'the last sequel to _____ was bad, so we're the most abused fanbase!'

Oh please.

How about having the title of the most dramatic fanbase?

We ought to be giving reasons really.

As a Final Fantasy fan, I really don't feel like I've been treated badly. I still enjoy the new mainline titles. Have there been some questionable decisions?
ATB
Sure. But I do think to some extent the fanbase seems to carry around this sense of entitlement that would only be placated by square creating numerous clones of FF7...

....

Whether you enjoy it or not is oddly enough not really a fair measurement. I realize that sounds kind of strange. What I mean is that it'd be fairly difficult to create a Final Fantasy "style" game with the production quality of Final Fantasy that wasn't "enjoyable." If you enjoy the genre as a whole it's pretty hard to go wrong enough to make a game that's not even a bit enjoyable.

I've also enjoyed most recent entries in the Final Fantasy series. However, my enjoyment has has been a steady decline since about 6. The characters in 6 alone really just dwarf anything since - the enormous variety and all, literally every single character, with unique and interesting abilities. What happened to stuff like that? Let alone the interesting quirks of 6 like the possibility of perma-death for a certain character, or just the incredible story behind the game. I feel like the series has become more and more about production quality as opposed to the game itself. For that matter Square themselves seem to believe that's what sells. Instead of actually getting glimpses of the game, their trailers now a days are basically 100% CG cutscenes. For that matter XIII started to even feel like the gameplay was just a short interlude between cutscenes. So the obvious response here would be, but that is what sells! Final Fantasy XIII sold less than 7million copies. XII sold 5.2million. Final Fantasy 7 sold 10million+ at a time when the market for games was ostensibly much smaller. Guess we'll see how XV turns out. It's looking to be either the Final Bastardization or a complete revitalization of the series. I'm cautiously optimistic!

Madden and NBA2k immediately come to mind. They are released with minimal if any updates year to year. Exception is NBA2k14 this year with the new ecomotion engine, however the online system for NBA2k has been awful forever. We have to have a fucking spreadsheet league. It should never come down to players having to make their own league system, ever. With Madden it's just a minimally improved roster update year to year. Only exception to this is Madden 06 but they have completely gimped the game since then.

How Tameem and NT treated the Devil May Cry community throughout the development/release of DMC.

Yeah. During the reveal he literally came out and said the original series was old fashion. All they did was keep Dante in an infinite loop. I want to see Kamiya come back and do DmC.

They may not be as bad as Sega.Mega Man, but Bioware's treatment towards its fanbase(s) post-EA merge is still something to behold.

Dragon Age: DA II comes out as a buggy, rushed mess, buoyed by the developers treating their fans like idiots who only mash buttons in interviews, coupled with various staff members' comments making it seem like they have no idea what they're doing. The developers resort to stunt casting (Felicia Day) to try and win back people, and planned DLC wrapping the storyline up gets scrapped. Bioware devs go to various conventions and try to convince people that RPG concepts that have been around for 20+ years are suddenly new and innovative. Everyone yawns when Inquisition is announced.

Mass Effect: Ex-developers accuse players of not understanding anything because they won't buy $10 day-one DLC. The dev team and heads of the studio stand around like deer in headlights while their fanbase trashes ME3, then run around to various press outlets accusing players of being at fault because they just didn't understand the product. Massive forum wars and schisms break out between fan factions. CNN and The New Yorker write op-ed's about the sorry situation, calling Bioware out for being petulant whiners. Developers go into hiding for a year to avoid the public. The ex-studio heads continue blaming the fanbase after their departure, while presenting at gaming conventions no less.

In the last few weeks it's been MGS. The price gouging and multiple SKUs all with different exclusive content all for a glorified demo is pretty bad.

Too Human, not only did Silicon Knights fail to deliver the promised DLC. They never bothered to patch all the issues with the game after the day one patch to fix network issues. Once they announced the lawsuit they stopped all communication with the community on their message board. Instead of supporting the people who bought their product, they elected to try and shake down Epic.

Years went by without any word from anyone at SK until recently. Dennis popped into the forum and invited everyone to join their new community at Precursor Games and support them in their new endeavor. He did this without an apology or a single word of thanks for the loyal fans who still supported Silicon Knights for years.

Ok the Too Human fanbase was small, but that was fucked up.

Fans of Megaman, Sonic, Starfox, Fzero, Earthbound, Bomberman (SMH Hudson), FF Type-0, FF Tactics, Klonoa, Legend of Legaia, Prince of Persia, Viewtiful Joe, Marvel Vs Capcom (my lord capcom smh), Capcom vs SNK, Valkyria Chronicles, Banjo Kazooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Gears, and Halo...probably more...

EDIT: Power Stone....Dreamcast in its entirety really...

EDIT 2: Good grief Bioware smh...

EDIT 3: Thread delivered in all the wrong ways...feels smh...thanks for the reminders guys smh...

I'm actually surprised NT didn't muzzle Tameem. After the first month after the reveal it was clear he couldn't speak to fans and keep his composure on twitter.

Xenosaga. Budget cuts led to an incredibly crappy Part 2, and a rushed garbage Part 3.

I don't think it was a budget thing, the events leading up to ep 2 hinted a new director wanted to change the direction of the game, Takahashi stepped down from directorial role, his wife got kicked out of the development team and their script was changed completely.

I also don't think they did it because they wanted to treat their fans like shit.

Da fuq am I looking at?

Aliens: Colonial Marines. A common takeaway from the gif is that the AI in the game is that awful, but in fact that particular enemy type is blind and since the player isn't doing anything, it just carries on with its awkward walking animation.

We don't even need Kamiya. The guys that made DMC4 proved they were more than capable to make a deep, rewarding combat system. With better management (mainly to avoid stuff like recycled levels), I'm sure they could make an absolutely awesome game on every level.

That plus they won't put shitty space harrier throwback sequences in the game like Kamiya did in his last two action games.
