Which game's fanbase has been treated the worst?

Burnout. We have to endure its face being worn by NFS every other year like hannibals mask.
NfS likewise. I want to play NfS and Burnout, not a shitty mix of both. Uninstalled Most Wanted 2013 in an instant after I had to watch a five second slow-mo when I crashed my car. Fuck that, I don't want this in my NfS. OG Most Wanted stays the best NfS.

Silent Hill. I've been waiting patiently for a SH game on par with the first three. Then those guys left, and it's been crap ever since.

Sonic comes a very close second.

For me: F-zero, Starfox, Advance Wars, Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Yakuza, Shenmue, Dragon Quest, Fable, Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata, Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents aaaand Star wars.

It's easily Resident Evil. With a big, established fanbase on the most popular systems of the time (PS1/PS2), Capcom decided it made sense to move exclusive entries in the series to the two least-viable systems of the time (DC/GCN).

When the fanbase didn't run out and buy every system to play the newest RE game, Capcom interpreted that as waning interest in the series. Their response was to change the genre from something the fanbase liked, to a style of game that catered solely to an audience that never liked the series to begin with.

If that wasn't bad enough, at least the new era of "action RE" started off with the release of an excellent game; even though it wasn't what fans of the survival horror RE games wanted, RE4's standing as a great video game wasn't up for debate.

But almost nine years later, the latest RE games lack focus and attempt to cater to every possible audience under the sun, falling short of satisfying any one group. More to the point: the games stink.

I remember while waiting for Duke Nukem, when 3D Realms were still working on it, it felt like they just wouldn't show us anything at all. It was such a long time to wait, and fans stuck it out for no reward for years. 'twas tough.

Mega Man, Breath of Fire, Phantasy Star and Earthbound fans. Though, I do think Bomberman fans have it the worst. No game coming out in next millenium if it's up to Konami. I remember when Tales fans were treated poorly, but things have changed since then and now it's almost completely the opposite.

I guess you gain, then lose some.

Megaman Legends fans.

"Oh, hey guys we're gonna make Megaman Legends 3. All you fans get to be involved!

But we don't know if we'll release it. We're going to put out a paid demo and if enough of you (suckers) buy it we'll make the full game.

Oh, wait, nevermind we just canceled that paid demo and scrapped the whole project."

Legacy of Kain?

Fans waiting 10 years for a new game then square decides to make a ftp online multiplayer game out of it (wut?) while cancelling the almost finished single player game.

I'm a huge fan of Breath of Fire and I must say that I was never that upset with a game the way I am with BoF 6...

it's too painful to remeber =(

Golden Sun

People were happy to get a sequel in 2010, it happened to be only the half of a game instead. And 3 years after the release, there is still no news about an hypothetic second half to end the story.

or Half-Life for about the same. Still waiting for episode 3.

Kingdom Hearts fans. All they've wanted since 2006 is a direct sequel to KH2, but all we get are more spin offs.

At least you guys know that the game is coming , you have a recent trailers and confirmation.. at least the quality of those spin-offs ( birth by sleep for example ) was pretty good.

I don't think kindom hearts fans has anything to do with being badly treated , except the fact that they release each game on a different console for NO REASON

I'm not even a Breath of Fire fan....

But this was painful to watch. I feel for you... =(
Argh as a rpg fan , this was painfull.

What. The. Fuck.
What to say , it's our fault that a game released doesn't meet the expectation of the buyers.
It's not like we're in some extra alternate dimension when a video game is a product that has to appeal first to the buyers in order to be sucessfull.

Shenmue fans aren't really trolled that much. Sega says it's done and dusted.

Now if shenmue 3 was released in Japan and is never going to see a us release. THAT is being trolled.

Id say Megaman.

Recently would be Silent Hill seeing where Konami keeps driving that series into the ground more and more.

Silent Hill has to be #1

Counter-Strike, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Chrono, Monster Hunter and Star Fox are all up there though. F-Zero and Wipeout as well, RIP best racing game franchises.

Every Konami series that's not Metal Gear fanbase. The lack of good Suikoden and Silent Hills games are... arght.

Almost every Capcom series that's not a fighting game. Even if some games split the fanbase (like RE6 and DmC), the way Capcom treats those fans is... ugh.

Western fans for Japanese SEGA games that are not Sonic.

And how can we forget Final Fantasy? Yeah.

...pretty much the fanbases for all the big japanese games.

Knicks fans. Signed bargs, amare, Jr and melo to ridiculously large contracts to the disarray of there fans...

How can you not feel sorry for them?

EDIT: Oh wai...

Wrong thread.

Pales in comparison to 76er fans like myse..........

nvm...

I'll go with US PSO fans and definitely aliens fans as already mentioned.

Wasn't the last good aliens game a while ago on PC in the 90s? If that wasn't good, were looking at AvP on the Jaguar? IIRC of course.

The PSO shit is absolutely infuriating, from cut contests, behind content to an entire fucking sequel having to be localised by the fanbase. Of which hasn't even been released in NA/EU yet to my knowledge. When asked why, the answer was basically, we need to get the MT model correctly for the asked about market and still....nothing.

Silent Hill has to be #1

I'm not sure if it's #1, but it's up there. I'd still love to see an explanation from Konami as to why they decided to outsource the series. I could've understood it on some level if they outsourced it to devs that were going to try something different. Instead we just got a bunch of imitations of what Team Silent was already doing. From the art to the storytelling. At least with something like DMC you say a major art change and a focus on storytelling. Even if you didn't agree with those changes, it's still a change at the least. You can't really say that for SH.

Dead space, granted I liked the last two a lot, but Its clearly obvious that EA fucked up big with forcing in the social/mp aspects to a franchise that would have been best kept as a singe player only franchise . But I have to applaud visceral in their efforts in trying to persevere some of what made the first game so amazing in the last two games, but it was clear from the get go EA had different plans for the series.

FUCK YOU EA!!!

Banjo-Kazooie

2000/2001
Banjo-Tooie releases during the twilight days of the N64. November 2000 in the U.S, and April 2001 in the EU. It was a huge game and it was good to see the N64 go out with a bang between this and other titles. GC was on the horizon and after finishing Tooie we were all looking forward to seeing Banjo-Threeie on the Gamecube.

2002
We hear nothing until September 2002. At the X02 event Microsoft announces they have bought Rare and they show this little teaser video, Banjo makes a cameo appearence.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUqrl2LA-SU

Turns out if we ever want to play another Banjo game, we need to spend a few hundred $$$ on a new console.

2003
No word on Banjo. First Rare game out of the gate for the Xbox is the rather crap Grabbed by the Ghoulies. There is plenty of Banjo-Kazooie artwork in the game, leaving fans pleased that at least something better is on the horizon.

Rare releases a Banjo-Kazooie game for the Gameboy Advance. Not a bad game but we're all really waiting for the true sequel.

2004
Nothing on Banjo. After numerous delays Kameo gets delayed indefinitely and Rare still fails to push out a remake of Conker.

2005
Another Banjo game released, also on GBA. Banjo-Pilot. Well at least Rare hasn't forgotten about the series...

Conker gets released, PD and Kameo are announced for Xbox 360 and Rare actually manages to release all these games in one year!! seems like there might be hope on the horizon. Starfox and Ghoulies might have sucked, but these three games were much more enjoyable. Not great but decent enough. Seems Rare could still had some magic left.

Still, if we ever want to play a new Banjo game we have to fork out even more $$$ for yet another new console.

2006
September. X06. Banjo is back!! After 6 long years we FINALLY have a new Banjo game on the way.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFwNdZ7lr_Y

Rare shows a teaser video for a new game. It has all the goodies there, the jiggies, the hints at platforming, the music. Rare fanboys worldwide cream their pants in unison.

2007
Nothing. No news, no new footage, no details at all on the new game. Looks like Rare is back up to its old tricks of taking things slow again....ah well, good things come to those who wait! we've waited this long, I'm sure we can manage to last just a little bit longer..

2008
Still no sign. To the point that in the early parts of the year Rare had to assure people that the game still existed!

May 2008 - Finally. Here we are. It's been over 7 and a half years since we last played a console Banjo game and for the first time since then we're going to see footage of a new game. fThe excitement of Rare fanboys like myself is through the roof. This is going to be one of the best games ever made. here comes the trailer....

....oh. It's....different. Very different. It's still gonna be good though.......right? it's been almost 8 years!!! it HAS to be good!!!

November 2008. 8 long years of waiting. 8 long, long years of little more than rumours and hope. It was finally here. What we had wanted for so long....

....and it sucked. Not just sucked in a "disappointing after 8 years kind of way" but in a "joyless, souless, designed-by-committee absolute turd of a game. A game so bad it's as if Banjo himself just turned up on your doorstep after 8 years and decided to slap you around the face with his dick. Utter trash. I try to like some shitty games but there was literally nothing redeemable about this pile of garbage, other than the music which felt reminiscent of classic Rare tracks but then that just made the pain even worse - knowing what could have been, and yet being stuck with this tosh.

I wish I could go back to myself all those years ago and just say to my younger self "it's gonna take 7/8 years and its gonna suck. Don't get excited kid.". That would have saved a lot of pain and pointless time wasted checking for rumours all those years.

Sonic Cycle more like Irrelevent Cycle because even the recent mediocre games (Sonic 4 and Lost World) doesn't even match up to the cycle itself, meanwhile we still get games that are well received among fans like Colors, Generations and the two Racing spinoffs.

FUCK YOU EA!!!

You sound like someone that has not played the third game, since what they did in co-op was pretty original. If you did play with a buddy you would understand what I mean.

Most of the other stuff was pretty much non essential and could be ignored with the microtransactions.

Mountains out of molehills.

There are way too many to list. It's also easy to list Mega Man because of recent events. But, in general, it's probably the Star Fox fanbase.

EDIT: Not even mentioned once previously in the topic. Jeez laweez, do people even remember that this series exists?

Sonic's had one hell of a rough patch, sure. But after great games like Colors, and labors of love like Generations and All Stars Racing Transformed, I don't think I'd say Sonic, at least not currently.

Breath of Fire.

No contest.

Yep. Hasn't seen a new entry in the series since 2003? Check.

Neglected in pretty much every crossover Capcom's been involved with (Vs. series or otherwise)? Check.

Only two of the series' legacy titles have been made available for purchase on digital marketplaces because reasons? Check.

A new game in the series gets announced and not only is it a mobile/browser game that bears no resemblance to the series or it's conentions but also has the nerve to be billed as a mainline title? Check.

I'm a big shenmue fan, but IMO, if SEGA hasn't released anything isn't for the company's fault, but the consumer side who didn't buy the game at the moment.

and that saddens me :(

My issues is the formula and gameplay for the first Dead Space worked so perfect, there was no real good reason for change or the inclusion of any kind of MP. In the end what we got was an "Uncharted" in space, which I personally liked, but I fully understood the criticisms towards the evolution the franchise took on.
Its clearly obvious what EA did to the franchise did not work out as planned and as evidence we now have a franchise that has been abandon and pushed aside for the foreseeable future.

Final Fantasy fans have a good argument but I feel like Squeenix is at least trying, they just miscalculate horribly.

SimCity fans?

I mean SimCity was a giant insult. The DRM and the game design is just a big FU to what most SimCity fans held dear about the series.

The absence of a worthy successor to the team based objective oriented multiplayer of Wolfenstein and Enemy Territory has been quite depressing. The sequel from a couple of years ago had horrendous multiplayer and I believe I read the upcoming wolf is singleplayer only.

Splash damage have made a couple of unsuccessful attempts with Brink and Quake Wars and apparently have another in the works.

Yup, and I'm not even a BoF fan when I say this. At least everything else has the decency to just be gone and leave you to your nostalgia.

Definitely Megaman.

Runners up, Starfox, Crimson Skies, Wave Runner, Banjo Kazooie, and the hardcore Halo community has been shit on for the past 3 developments.
