I'm going to throw in something very different.
I played these games and I didn't find them boring. I found them very entertaining, but only because I played them in co-op.
Halo 3 and Gears of War 2.
Halo 3 looked amazing (them trailers, man), and after having friends tell me about how great the story is, I had to chuckle and tell myself I should have known better. I honestly believe this must have been a low point for the series and the first two games must have been a lot better because playing the campaign in single player would be a chore.
I'm going to pick up Halo Reach so I can co-op complete that too.
Gears of War 2 is similar also. No one told me about how "great" it is. But it's popular and one of the main franchises on the 360. It's mundane when you play it on your own though. Much, much better with a friend.

Final Fantasy XII: Screw this game's:
Non-existent story (Politics? Just what I'm looking for in my Final Fantasy!);
Bland characters ("Hey Vaan, wanna tag along and help save the nation?" "Sure!" "Okay, let's never speak again then");
Boring-ass MMO-like gameplay (Walk for 30 seconds, slash slash, walk for 30 seconds, slash slash, take forever to reach the next town -- have nothing interesting happen there -- walk for 30 seconds, slash slash).
Boring. Most disappointing Final Fantasy for me.
I can see how some people think it's a good game but it's just not for me Actually I can't.
Oh man, this game. This game let me down so much.
I still remember the first picture I saw. The art looked amazing. So much potential. Then I saw the picture of the Judges and then I discovered it would be a political story. Hype went through the roof.
Then about two years later, I saw a trailer on play.com, realised it was out and bought it.
Wow, did it let me down.
It has some good ideas but it's bloody boring overall. I can't believe people try and say this game's half-assed story executed so poorly is something okay or even good. It falls apart so quickly and squanders what potential there ever could have been.
It doesn't help that you have one of the crappiest cast of characters I've ever seen in any game. Bloody Vaan and that annoying sidekick of his. Infuriating they are. The Princess doesn't help either. Shit character. You're trying to make a serious and more subtle game and you have a character dressed like that? I won't go into her boring character arc.
Balthier is the only redeemable aspect of this game, along with some gameplay features and mechanics (overworld, hunts, enemies can be seen for the first time, changes of season etc.). Everything else sucked.
There were some really good ideas in this game. They were just coated with crap a lot of the time.
