Which GTA game did you spend the most time with?

GTA IV, by virtue of it being the only GTA game I've played so far. (I played only 5 minutes of III, but mostly watched my buddy play it).

Being a New Yorker, the faux New York (Liberty City) in the game was really, really well done. They really did their research. The story was not the greatest, but serviceable. I actually didn't mind Niko, although I think they could've done a lot more with his character development. And I didn't even mind Roman... I know he could be annoying as hell, but in some ways I found him charming. It may have helped that at the time I first played the game on the PS3, I had a roommate who did a PERFECT impersonation of Roman. More than just mowing down random pedestrians, I spent a good amount of time playing pool, bowling, or something else. It was the first game I was exposed to in which I thought, "Holy shit, there's SO much to do here!"

I even tried to 100% the game, but the pigeons very quickly convinced me otherwise. I beat the story mode twice (once on PS3, once on Xbox 360). I played a good deal of both expansions, too, until I got distracted and started playing other stuff.

Needless to say, I know GTA IV has its fair share of haters around these parts, but I will always defend that game.

I spent a ton of time playing GTA London and GTA advance.

This is what happens when you love GTA on PS1 and then don't buy a PS2 or Xbox and go with gba and gamecube.

Play what you can get eh?

Either GTAIII or Vice City, it's a toss up. I hope that when it comes out for PC, the new answer will be V, but I'm so old now, just can't be gaming like that no more.

For me, it's GTA V. There's so many things you can do, so many possibilities, so many little details. GTA V in first person blew my mind just like GTA III blew your minds. I can't wait for the PC version to drop.

GTA IV. The first GTA I really got into, and I loved it. I know a lot of people harp on the story or whatever, but I was so invested in Niko's quest that I really wanted him to come up on top. I also really loved Liberty City. I would love for Rockstar to add Liberty City in as DLC for GTA V, even if its just to roam around in.

Doing my second play through of GTA V now, this time on the Xbox One. I've been busy so I had to put it off for a few weeks, but now I'm ready to dive back in.

San Andreas and it was great. But I think I played it so much that I burned myself out in regard to the series. I haven't touched another GTA game since. I had been a fan since the original, but I haven't even had the slightest desire since SA.

GTA III for me. I used to sit and play that game for hours every day after school. I was in middle school.

I turned out ok, I think.

Must've been 3 which was my first GTA and the only one I really enjoyed.

Played SA but didn't like it very much, same with IV. Haven't played the others.

Vice city. They distilled the 80s and miami vice and scarface so perfectly.

I've been disappointed with every GTA since. They just don't compare.

Vice City because I was young and I couldn't buy a lot of games and had to play it all the time. Not that I mind it's still IMO the best GTA to be released. The fact that I could own a mansion was mind-blowing.

GTA 3 - played a lot. played through multiple times
GTA VC - played through once
GTA SA - played a bit, didn't like it
GTA IV - hated the physics. ruined the game for me.
GTA V - have yet to play

Vice City (PC + PSP)
San Andreas (PC, PS2)
GTA V (PS3, 360, XONE)
GTA 4 (PS3, 360, PC)

In order. Though in long run I can see GTA V becoming my most played

4 by a country mile. Played through the campaign and endless TDM on 360. Even got all 200 fucking pigeons. Played the 2 expansions. Then I double dipped on both for PC and played them all a 2nd time.

Still waiting for 5 to hit PC :/

San Andreas, the world was just so full, spent hours exploring on quads, taking turf, the mini games, man what a universe.

Also it had a pretty underrated couch co-op imo.

Probably a tie between San Andreas and GTA 2.
Got GTA 2 after getting III and I didn't really like GTA III at all, but for some reason GTA 2 really clicked with me and felt like I beat that game over and over again 24/7. Liked Vice City but only finished it a couple of times compared to GTA 2.

San Andreas comes out 2 years later and imo at that time it had the best setting, music, characters, mission variety, cheat codes, side activities and more and that led me to fell into the same cycle I did with GTA 2 basically. Tried to 100% but remember not being able to find the last few oysters and during this time I didn't have a PC to use since my uncle moved out so me and a friend would try to go to the local library and print out a bunch of cheats/collectible maps till the library workers started to get mad then said no more, so basically ended up not getting to print the oyster map.

After that third would be GTA IV because the expansions and online,VCS, then Chinatown Wars which I still haven't finished the main campaign cause all I do is run around and sell drugs.

It's a tie between GTA:Vice City and SA with an edge to GTAV.

Honestly, I didn't really like GTA3 outside of a few missions and a couple characters. The later games were much better in that department, and honestly every single entry with the exception of GTAIV has been better than the last.

EDIT: Forgot to mention I remember playing the first two games for like 10 minutes a piece before going back to MGS1. I still remember the awesome camera mode easter egg from GTAIII that allows you to play it like GTA1,2, and London 1969.

4 since it's the only one I've really ever played more than an hour. Open world games aren't my favorite I've realized. I enjoyed my time with it though

I 100%ed Vice City and San Andreas on PS2. I think even with maps of hidden packages SA takes longer. But since then I've definitely replayed Vice City more, so it's a tough one

Probably V if you count online.

SP only is still San Andreas I'm pretty sure. I fucking love that game. V is pretty good, but I feel the GTA team really lost their way compared to their SA days. SA feels more ambitious for its time than V does.

Vice City, attack helicopter missions with progressivly increasing rewards. I was a multi gazillionere after a while.

SA, by far. Probably more time with that than all others that aren't VC or 5. My mates and I did spend a shitload of time playing 2 as well when we got our PC's together for a little LAN action, but I didn't own it.

Probably V if you count online.

Yeah, it's an improvement on IV in almost every way, but still not nearly as endlessly entertaining as SA was at the time.

Counting in the expansions and the online, it has to be GTA IV. The lack of new episodes for GTA V is a bummer. GTA V will eventually surpass it because at some point I will buy it on PS4 or PC and use the account migration to get 100%, which would be a first for me in a GTA game.

The original of course. It was a unique game back then and I spent countless days just blowing stuff up. Other than that I would say Vice City on a solid second place and then 5, 3, San Andreas, 2 and 4.

GTA: Vice City for the most part. I also played plenty of GTA: SA. Really loved the offline co-op in it, which was missing from GTA IV and V.

I probably have at least 300 hours in Vice City. I remember finally hitting 100% completion at 205 hours; used to play that game for hours every day after school. III, SA and V would each have a good 150-200ish, with IV probably only 50 or so (and most of those would be in Gay Tony. God that base game was such a disappointment).

GTA V for me gets so much extra because a lot of Heist prepation missions are fun to spend a lot of effort planning and preparing for...

Choose the location, getaway, perfect vehicle and clothing, time of day, etc. I spent over a week preparing for my Military Hardware Ambush for the Paleto Bank Heist... at least a few days roleplaying Heist Prepation missions for Blitz Play.

Even other missions, too: wait until Monday 5am to steal a garbage truck; wear a suit to meet the FIB for but a leather jacket to industrial areas, warm camouflage jackets to a drug meet ambush in the Paleto Forest... Stuff like that.

Game lacks the awesome free roam gameplay systems of SA... sadly. It misses those a lot.

But it has far better raw gameplay and better random events too... random AI behavior that do crazy unexpected shit.
