Digital.

My internet is fast enough and the prices are, usually, better on PSN (than on stores) here on Brazil.

I have 250 PS4 games. I think only 10 are on disc....

I'm glad that they decided to give us options, I wasn't expecting it all, now the question is price difference and SKU availability, I hope they consider all markets for both options and not just Murica.
The money I save from picking the digital version will go towards the charging station.

Maybe but with the majority of people going digital there's no point anymore.
For many people it's still important. Lots of Sony games are story focussed and singpleplayer with not that much replay value. Digital only my 70 bucks are gone forever, with a drive i can send them with zero effort so some resseller and get 30-40 ucks back or just trade it with a frieend. In the end thestandard version will be much cheaper for many people and you can also watch 4k movies with it. For me it's a no brainer, but i understand digital only fans and without any doubt this is the future.

Why would it? I would imagine your PSN digital games will simply carry over if you've been buying them that way. If not then stick with the disc version.

We have no idea if they're doing more than PS4 in terms of BC...but I wouldn't count on it being more than PS4 just because Sony doesn't seem as interested or invested in BC as MS does.
There is still hope, that at the very least Playstation Now would benefit from a proper Cell Emulator. In fact i would argue that the only reason we don't get full multigen backwards compatibility is because PSNow isn't earning enough money.

Something I haven't seen talked about is will Sony allow game codes to be sold just like physical media in boxes or will it be locked down to their own store.

These are two completely different value propositions in my view.

I generally sell games so probably physical for me.

If i buy one, then i will get the disc version. Might want to grab some discounted physical PS4 games from time to time.
I mean maybe the machine will be backwards compatible with even older systems aswell.

How did you get to that conclusion? Majority of people going Digital? From neogaf poll with 25 votes? Lmao xD

I think we already have over half of games sales being digital, with the new gen publishers are gonna push digital even more and it's just more convenient so players are gonna take advantage and make the jump to the cheaper digital model.

I voted blue ray as the first obvious choice, but come to think of it I own 10 games on discs now while my PSN library is around 250... Undecided. Wondering what the difference in price will be

Same. So many games I will pick up day one, get my monies worth then sell on ebay for a decent amount.

Down side, is I will rebuy on digital like a year or so after and that is the money gone again.

One options is missing
"None until that ugly Design is fixed"

And btw, the real question is:
How many will buy a digital edition, if the Standard edition is no longer available?

Even if I haven't bought a physical game in quite some time and bought digital only for the last 3-4 yrs. I still go with the disc version just to be able to still play bd movies or get some used games.

And seeing how games like driveclub aren't available digital anymore I will at least have the option to get it physical after it got delisted.

You need to add one more option to that pole.... 1 of each.

Many people have two consoles in their home (Primary + secondary) to share digital games. So I could see getting one with the Blu-ray to be able to play those older cheap disks and one digital only for the game share.

I will ride that disc train until the wheels falls off. Matter fact i will be in line to buy the last printed game disc on earth. Lol

I'm digital only now. I guess since there is a digital only version that eliminates the possibility of backwards compatibility for anything past PS4? I mean it doesn't totally eliminate it but shows where their priorities are. That's very disappointing.

I would seriously buy a separate standalone Sony system that played PS1, PS2, and PS3 games.

Digital, haven't bought physical media in 10 years (and yes I have a 4k TV, Plex is a wonderful thing). I assume the digital version would be a bit cheaper (or perhaps with a larger SSD?) but even if it isn't, looking at the visual design of the PS5, that is clearly how it's "meant" to be designed, and the "regular" bluray version just looks awful.

Disc for sure because I still own all my games and need the ability to go back. Even if digital became standard it would take over a decade for game prices to match up with PC markets.

Really depends on the price difference. If it's less than $100, then I'll take the 4K player, otherwise I'll be satisfied with the digital console.

I would be more interested in a poll of average gamers. although having a poll of specifically neogaf members is useful for it's own purposes D:

The disparity in consumer rights between physical vs. digital is HUGE. I would not throw my rights away so I would go with the physical option of course.

Also I will not need to pay for the storage space for these games inthe form of buying very expensive high capacity ssds, yes I know I will have to install my games on the ssd but at least I can delete them to make room for other games and reinstall them without downloading the whole game every single time (and keep in mind how huge those games are).

If the hardware is the same, I would probably go with the digital version.

I need to know more about the architecture, size of ssd, expansion, etc. first.

I'm leaning towards the digital due to the looks but I also don't want to lose the drive.

Kind of a difficult decision but I'm voting the Digital version for the time being.

I wanna go for the digital ver. But my brother wants to own a few games he likes on physical media. Also, there's this lingering fear of mine that a digital apocalypse will soon happen that'll wipe out all the data in the main server. So yeah, I'm going with the Bluray Drive version.

I would go digital except I still have the Skyrim disc that came with my PSVR that I might one day actually get around to playing.

Depends on the price difference. I'd rather pay the extra $50 to have a drive I'd most likely will never use than not.

The digital doesn't have a dad bod though 🤔

I want to get the digital one but Im going to buy the regular one for the UHD Blu Ray so that I can put my current player in my room.

I see 4K discs still being viable.
Streaming compressed 1080p video is still not great.
Although I prefer digital games, I won't stream a 4K movie.

I figure I'll get the best version (whatever that is) in protest against an all digital future :(

dammit I am an old man and still have reverence for VHS :(

at least I'm not on the internet yet but I fear that may be just a matter of time :messenger_loudly_crying:

I would get the digital edition, but I have a bunch of PS4 discs from back when I was still buying physical games.

Depending on the price difference I might just get the digital one, It would mainly be for the exclusive games. Demon souls Remake and Returnal look like something I would not want to pass on.
