Anyway, people always seem to hate on this game, but I think it will probably be the best jrpg so for this gen when released...at least it has some ambition

Their last home console game wasn't very good so I don't think their reputation alone warrants huge hype.

What!? Rouge Galaxy was fucking awesome son! I will kill you! :D

Game's graphics look good, even if the art-style is meh. I'm more concerned that the gameplay in the segment they showed off last TGS looked incredibly boring.

I also don't have the utmost of confidence in Level 5's game-design. Their technical prowess has always been strong, but Rogue Galaxy wasn't exactly a "revolutionary" title to me.

Still, I hope it's good.

Pretty much how I feel. Apart from the technical side (no loading was very nice), RG was average at best, with many parts being pretty bad. The story had a decent premise, even if it was a riff on Star Wars, but just got stupider by the hour, until it was plumbing new depths of inanity. Unfortunately the story sequences in the WKC trailers don't even inspire confidence that even the premise will be decent, let alone the execution.

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything special. Certainly not enough to make the statement that WKS will be the best rpg of this generation so far.

not that much competition so far apart from LO and BD...

Fire Emblem crushes 'em both under it's boot.

And Rogue Galaxy was piece of trash. It's like SMT without the interesting art, music and crazyness. Only the HC JRPG consumers could enjoy it methinks.

And the only good Level 5 game wasn't really theirs so I wouldn't raise my hopes too high for this one.

Though even an "ok" JRPG would do at this point. I don't want to fucking buy an xbox for one decent JRPG :lol

I'd say that there is more than just one "decent" JRPG is coming to the 360. :)

And yea Level 5's best game was incredible in the hands of Enix. They have talent they just need to focus it.

That wont stop me from buying White Knight though.

Fabulous screens, although I agree, it looks like the graphics look downgraded or something. Can't wait for this game. The atmosphere from the screens looks like it's going to be awesome.

FE isn't really THAT great of a SRPG. I mean, it's really simple. The only thing that makes it interesting is the permadeath.

I agree that Level 5 isn't that great, though...

FE is well designed and challenging*. Disgaea 2 for example showed me that craziness and content don't make a good game yet.

*in ancient scriptures, you can just barely see legends written that may suggest JRPG:s of old had this thing called challenge. We're not sure what it means and I'm afraid we might never do.

When I said simple, I was partially talking about challenge as well...

I've never played a FE game near as challenging as FM... (nor as complex)

EDIT: I don't find most older RPGs challenging either...

I loved Rogue Galaxy :)
If you think this is a Star Wars-ripoff, you've only seen the trailer, or the first level.
You play as a bounty-hunter here, and yes you travel around the galaxy...

The weapon-level system with the frog were quick, easy and great, and I really liked the factory stuff they had going. :)

I played it through in 55 hours, and in 2 sittings (!)..
The cell-shaded graphics were awesome upscaled on my PS3 (60gb euro-software)aswell.

The only negative about it were that the last level in the dungeon dragged got to big.

And the final boss-fight were the craziest ever, and no opportunity to save, and you had to use all of your party in it.
I managed it on first try, but had to pause and go to the internet during the final fight with the main characther in the end, since it were over 5 hours since the last save-checkpoint.

No. It just had a crappy plot.

But like, that has almost become a "standard feature" in nowadays Jrpgs, do not you think? ._.

Nah, my main problem was that it is a button masher, but, in the interest of full disclosure, I am biased against arpgs. But as an rpg fanatic, I play them all.

Fixed.

I'm enjoying Rogue Galaxy so far, but the save system is bugging me. I hate playing for ~20 minutes without finding a save point (like when escaping from the jail), then dying and going back to the main menu, forcing me to reload the game then do it all over again. It's very frustrating.

I loved Dark Cloud, though, and I'm in the process of tracking down (the much superior, from what I hear) Dark Cloud 2.

Professor Layton kicks ass as well. Haven't played DQVIII.

WKC is looking to be 100x better than any of those, and I can't wait for it. :D

Dark Cloud 2 is amazing.

I love how when one person doesn't sh*t themselves over a CERTAIN game or two, people automatically discredit their opinion.

Gaf is so stupid sometimes...

I love how when someone else voices their disagreement over an opinion they're suddenly shitting themselves, rather than simply voicing their opinion.

Infinite Undiscovery definitely looks like every other generic RPG out there, that's for sure. I'd take my wire-fu Advent Children theatrics and belted up protagonists over new ideas any day
I say this to be facetious, seeing how my last avatar was from FFXIII. Both certainly have their generic qualities as of right now, but at least we know enough about IU's gameplay to suggest that is anything but.

You know, I want to bring up something that rarely gets brought up in these posts arguing over which company will FINALLY get a JRPG right, or if one already has, or whatever.

Remember Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube, Solid Snake's appearance in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and Mystic Heroes for the Gamecube?

These things have one thing in common, in that they take a popular idea and try to make it appealing to a different audience. In this case, the creators might have thought the main Final Fantasy series needed a lighter touch, that Solid Snake had a comic side (outside the ultra-serious world of MGS4 for example), and that Dynasty Warriors might not be kid-friendly enough.

These are just guesses, but you get what I'm trying to say.

As the PS3 has effectively failed to give Japanese developers any hope of a home for their RPGs, the Xbox 360's releases are similarly tailored to be as mainstream as possible.

It's no accident that

-Eternal Sonata
-Blue Dragon
-Lost Odyssey
-Enchanted Arms

are very straightforward and offer some very basic examples of whatever subgenre of JRPG is being tapped.

Now, as someone who loves straightforward, accessible RPGs I couldn't be happier with this.

As it pertains to this topic, Level 5 is one of my favorite developers because they seem to understand how important accessbility is. And WKS should fit right with this trend.

See the HD off screen gameplay vids I posted earlier. The one's from which the screens were taken.
It's still an unnatractive game that defines the word embarrassment in the strongest sense.

Like, not only would you have to be home alone to play a ponytailed character teaming up with down syndrome rabbits, but you should probably make sure your neighbors are gone for the weekend as well.

Dark Chronicle (DC2) was actually the second RPG I owned for PS2 but I don't recall it being that great. I'm not sure if any changes were made from the JPN version to the US version, but while the Georama system was interesting, the art design and voice acting couldn't keep me interested at all...and I don't even remember the storyline anymore. It may have been partially due to the fact that I played Venus&Braves immediately prior to Dark Chronicle, but it just wasn't memorable...I felt Grandia II was a much better RPG than DC by a long shot too...

Hino said that the voice casting for WKC will be stellar so I'm waiting for the actual cast lineup to make a decision as to whether or not to grab it...I'm hoping it'll be close (if not better) to the caliber of lineup Valkyria Chronicles had...

DC2 makes up for a ho-hum, standard JRPG storyline and some dull, uninteresting characters with its enjoyable gameplay, good soundtrack and (especially) its wealth of content. It's a very solid game, but I feel that's in spite of the storytelling.

Didn't Level 5 do Jeanne D'Ark (PSP) as well? One of my fave games on the PSP. Amazing visuals, art, story, gameplay, enemies, characters etc. One of the more accessible and enjoyable Tactical RPG's on the system.

Yes. Yes they did.
