Not surprised about Sony "winning" e3. It was just ok to me, they showed a lot of pretty games and at e3 that can get you a lot of attention but as a PS4 owner I was disappointed. 90% of those aren't even coming out in the near future. Making their holiday lineup look much worse than I expected. I don't get excited for VR cause its a gimmick and you got to be cautious with gimmicks. Like I said, I'm not surprised it won over the GAF community but it certainly didn't win me over.

The the thing that surprises me is how much more votes Nintendo got over MS. They showed off Zelda (which was very impressive, even for a guy that doesn't get excited for Zelda usually) and some pokemon garbage which is quite possibly the lowest point of the show. It was bad, really bad. They're the one trick pony, the Desiigner of the show.

MS had more to show to than both of them and most of their games are coming this holiday. Even had a couple of bombshells. The fact that Nintendo got more votes is really ridiculous.

MS and Sony have probably about the same amount of exclusives coming this Holiday season, without doing much research, It's Sony who probably has more because of Japanese support and GTS/GR2/TLG being confirmed.

Why do I keep seeing this argument? it’s stupid to want either Sony or MS to only announce things coming soon. And I can guess, MS would have been just as happy to have these far off games at there conference that people love to mock like FF7 or Shenmue. There is plenty of time to announce what’s coming in September-December. E3 is about hyping a product and entertaining your customers. MS’s is lowest because it was boring. They could have did a youtube video for customized controllers. They had a bunch of sub-par moments (Recore looks rough, Scalebound looked boring, Minecraft was -_- ) and ended it with a promise of a beefy new xbox to play almost over 18 months from now. Do you know how long that is? Who cares about Scorpio after the new hardware hype goes down, you won’t see it for another year!

Sony and Nintendo entertained everyone better than MS, its not hard to understand, even if you personally enjoyed MS’s conference.

You see the argument made because history has shown us it's a legitimate concern to have. If you announce something that may not come out until 2018 and on top of that may be trash since not much gameplay was displayed, why am I giving you props when other companies had much more tangible offerings? Mainly MS.

that’s bullshit...and you’re singling out Sony like they are the only company to put out duds. Quantum Break anyone? MS just showed what they had.

Do you know how many games are actually coming to PS4 this year? It makes no logical sense. If Sony only focused on what was coming soon, it would still be more than what MS showed. (Not doing a list war) They showed what would be most entertaining, and what they thought were most important to show-period.

Recore, Scalebound, Sea of thieves could all end up trash, some of them actually had a pretty weak presentation and have caused much “concern”. what type of logic are you even using to just single out Sony’s titles. Again, I ask, do you actually know what is coming to PS4 in the same timeframe as Xbox? The software difference is getting larger as the gen goes not smaller.

I wonder why some people think the year has ended for new announcements.

For example, Sony still has TGS, PGW and PSX to come. MS will go to Gamescom and then "see you next year".

I am going to laugh when Sony shows nothing but indies and weird games like Wild at Gamescom/Paris and everyone complaints about there being no AAA games. I am going to laugh again when they show nothing but Japanese games at TGS and complaints are about lack of Western games. I will laugh a third time when at PSX they don't have big new announcements and complaints mention, without realizing, that that PSX is for the die hards who want to get to know developers.

Humansarehorses and Cindi Maywather, please continue your Horizon ""discussion"" via PMs. More talk about shilling and intellectual Trumpism will get you both banned

Has to be sony. The show was near to perfect. Announcement-wise last year was better, but overall this year was gold.

"We knew that this year we had an exceptionally good line up of games to talk about so why not get everything else out of the way and just talk about them?” said House. “So we made it very video heavy. We now think of these events as shows,” he said. “It’s about trying to strike the right balance between delivering information and entertaining people who are tuning in to watch from home. There were meaty announcements but also it was hopefully entertaining.”

"If enough people say it, it must come true!"
critically and commercially, QB did not live up to expectations, especially here on GAF. I think Order is a fantastic game, played it and enjoyed it for $20, after sales, probably got close to shipping a million units after all is said and done. But it is not continuing as a franchise, did not live up to expectations, very divisive game and overwhelming negative reception.

Don’t take me calling QB a “dud" personal. It does not seem to be a new successful franchise for MS and sales were very timid last time I checked.

Because sales are always indicative of quality? And we know why it sold like that because so many Xbox One exclusives fared that way. The console's position in the market and how people perceive it is why Xbox One exclusives are selling underwhelmingly. Had it released on Steam and/or PS4, it would have been a completely different story, as it would be for Sunset Overdrive, as it will be for Scalebound...etc.

Releasing on PS4 sure helped The Order 1886 and SFV, am I right?
You're comparing QB to TO1886?
And SF V undersold due to lack of content, not because it's a bad game.

This is getting off topic so I'm done.

QB commercially and critically (Media and Users) has been “mixed” at best man. That’s all I meant. It’s not an amazing new franchise that looks to continue, and it was definitely hyped a lot of forums as a potential reason to own an X1 because of the developers.

The initial point was, we don’t know how ANY of these games will turn out, and it’s not fair to single out Sony. They have the most lukewarm releases just from how big their WWS are and the number of titles released for the platform.

Zelda will be Zelda... despite the fact that they showed tons of footage showing that that's not true. That BotW is in fact not going to be the same as past Zeldas.

And FFXV is going to be a story focused JRPG? Hahaha, you haven't play Duscae.

The world is larger and you can explore it freely, but you are still doing the typical Zelda things in that game like solving puzzles. It won't be a loot fest like MH.

As for FFXV. A demo may or may not be in the game doesn't disqualify my argument, especially when the devs have emphasised it multiple times that story comes first. They have shown enough story bits in the trailer.

Horizon may have a focus on story, but they have shown none of it. And if the game plays like MH + Skyrim, it will be a disappointment for me. I only like MH when I am playing with my friends. A singleplayer open world MH needs to have a story to pull me in

You know the Kojima entrance would have been an ultra boss moment (yeah, I said would have been), if he just slowed the fuck down and walked on the white emerging path, rather than racing in front of it.

I can't be the only one bothered by that.

And Layden fluffing the Crash-shadow walk on.

For me its a tie between Nintendo and MS. MS showed more games I actually want to play, had great announcements for PC players, and actually showed good games that will be out this year.

For Nintendo, they showed the revitalization of one of my favorite game franchises and went deep on it in a really awesome way.

Sony just showed games going in a direction I just am not interested in. Slower, narrative games filled with set pieces and/or made by devs I have no faith to make a game I want to play. I can take a bit of that but not a conference full of it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Capcom won, just by releasing the RE7 and monster hunter generations demos.
2016 and publishers are still living in the pen and paper age.

Unless you only game during the holidays. Sony's has had far more exclusives released this year. With Gran Turismo,Nioh,The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2. Holidays are looking really good as well. Not to mention No Man's Sky another game people seem excited for.

MS Showed games we've seen are already knew about. They've released A Forza game every year Horizon is no Surprise, DeadRising 3 is a timed exclusive. Outside of that they show a X1 that Plays 4k movies, and specs for a console a year and a half away.

ZELDA I would say

No conference is very interesting, Sony is better than Xbox though. especially the Bio7 and Kojima's new project trailer.

Outside of the Last Guardian, when was the last time Sony announced a game that was more than 2 years out?

I ask this, because for at least the past 3 or 4 years, Sony has been very good at announcing games 6-12 months before release. They've been burned by too many games (Gran Turismo, The Last Guardian, etc), where they announce a platform and release date, and then it misses it. Since then, they've generally stuck to a 6 month minimum time out, and barring a few delays, very little releases two years out.

Games like Detroit, Spider-Man, Days Gone, Horizon, and God of War have literally been in development for at least 3 years. What was the last game Bend released? Uncharted Golden Abyss, which released in 2012. So, do you think they've been sitting in the studio with their fingers up their butts for 4 years? That's not how game development works.

Quantic Dream? Their last game was Beyond Two Souls. That released in 2013. Again, what have they been working on for 3 years? Not their tans.

Sony Santa Monica: That studio is pretty big, but the last major game they worked on was God of War Ascension in 2013. Cory Barlog and his team have been working on God of War for quite a while, judging by some of the stuff he's said in the past few years about his "mystery" project that we all knew was a new God of War.

Insomniac has two Studios, and yet they still don't churn out a ton of games, with their last big game being Sunset Overdrive in 2014. The Spider-Man and Ratchet games use the same engine as Sunset Overdrive. Either their Burbank or Carolina studio started work on Spider-Man, and at the very least, it's been in development for 2 years. By the time it releases, which I'm positive is 2017, it'll have a nice 3 year dev cycle. Which is par for the course for a big budget first party title.

Guerrilla Games last title was Killzone: Shadowfall. That released in 2013. Again, they haven't worked on shit besides Horizon for at least 3 years. That game has a release date, at least.

The point I'm trying to make is that a game announcement doesn't mean the game just started development. Sony has a 2016 plate to focus their energy and hype on. Once that time has passed, not to mention so many other gaming events coming in the next 6 months, they'll start to focus on their 2017 slate. I would be legitimately shocked if the titles they announced Monday miss 2017. I just don't see that reasonably happening.

What is their holiday lineup? Everything I'm seeing is VR.

Zelda. Undeniably. Personal bias aside, it was the winner.the reaction at the show, neogaf, Twitter makes it the obvious choice.

i voted turkey leg cuz i dunno about winning anything unless we're talking charlie sheen

but i did think sony had one of the better conferences i've seen just because i appreciated that it was basically 'hey, instead of talking, let's just show 1 hour of game trailers' lol. and i also appreciated that nintendo basically just basically ignore wii u/nx noise and said hey let's show a shit tonne of zelda. so i liked how they both approached showing their games. and i think they both accomplished what they best fit them.

I think Nintendo had the best highlight with Zelda, but they had nothing else.

Sony had the most exciting games overall, and thats usually what determines the "winner".
Sure, many of them are far away, but new announcements are always more exciting to us than games we've already seen before, even when these games are much closer to release.

Microsoft had no real game surprises and I honestly think that they aren't very good at showing off their games. Neither Gears, not Sea Of Theives, not Scalebound had really convincing gameplay presentations.

The hardware announcements didn't really do anything for me, I guess you have to be a dedicatedfan of the brand to be excited about new hardware thats 18 months away and will deliver the same games as the box I already can get now.
I was sold on the XB1S, I don't have an XB1 yet and with built in 4k Blu-Ray-Player its a great value, but Microsoft pretty much unsold me with the rest of their show and the Play Anywhere stuff.

Sony. Not just the best show this year, one of the best ever. Presentation, quality of content, pacing, all outstanding, with a few nice surprises included for good measure. Hopefully it's the blueprint for future conferences.

Sony. They showed off a nice diverse lineup of games and didn't linger on VR too long which was super smart since we all know VR on stage doesn't show off well to an arena full of people and millions watching without headsets. They also had a bunch of holy shit surprises like GoW, RE7, Spider-man and Crash Remastered.
