Who would you want to voice Link next gen?

I already decided that I won't buy a Zelda HD if Link isn't voice acted.

OoT 3D just proved how much I don't want this in games anymore. Honestly never liked silent characters. I don't believe/experince the whole being apart of the world bullshit, to me I'm never a space bounty hunter, I'm never so dude in a green tunic saving the world.

I'm always me and they are them, and it's odd to me that these "characters" never react to the world around them, never have anything to say or want to express how they feel vocally.

If it works for other people cool, and I know I'm in the minority so it isn't that big a deal and Link along with Zelda and most of the cast won't be voice acted, however until that time comes I won't be spending my money on Zelda products.

Quinton Flynn, the voice of Raiden in MGS2 (sucked) and MGS4 (better). I think it would work.
Wow, that's Quinton Flynn, huh? My dumbass always imagined he looked like Raiden.

But why? The other characters DO talk, all the time, so there's no rational reason why they aren't voiced.

For some reason, nobody seems to ever criticize them on this ground, when voicing became standard 2 generations ago.
Have you played any Nintendo games with voice acting?

Gimme the text and never give Link a voice, please.

I don't like silent heroes so I don't get how people are defending it. And I love Nolan North, but unless Link was older I don't think it would fit.

I don't like a thing so I don't get how other people like a thing.

Christopher Leeeeeeee hides in the shadows, waiting for you and for me
Christopher Leeeeeeee made lots of movies, I'm sure you've seen him on TV

And he wears his face like a noble mask to hide... the churning bloodlust lurking deep inside!

Christopher Leeeeeeee lives in a castle over in England somewhere
Christopher Leeeeeeee wears a sharp-looking suit and neatly combs back his hair

And he wears his face like a noble mask to hide... the churning bloodlust lurking deep inside!
Behind his eyes flames roar, a hunger burns at his core
Every night he stalks the land hunting souls to command
And just when I think I'm too scared... Peter Cushing is there!

Christopher Leeeeeeee tall dark and handsome, a cinema symbol of sex
Christopher Leeeeeeee isn't a homo, he likes women with beautiful necks

And he wears his face like a noble mask to hide... the churning bloodlust lurking deep inside!

Yuuichi Nakamura

It's not like he hasn't been voicing a lot of blonde characters recently, might as well add another one.

But Nobuyuki Hiyama is still the best.

Song about Christopher Lee isn't as good as a song about drinking sung by Christopher Lee

I can't believe in 2011 so many people for a giant wall of text. Zelda needs voice acting. Fine if you don't want to give Link one, but for everyone else it desperately needs it.

I think you mean yourself. If you want it, fine, but please don't act like everyone who buys Zelda is begging for VA.

LINK HAS NO LINES TO SPEAK

Why do people keep believing that giving the series voice acting implies Link will get actual speech?

The people who want voice acting (generally) want just the text to be spoken and not just slapped onto the screen. Link would still be silent.

But it's not just slapped onto the screen, there are accompanying sounds and gibberish.

it's like in an act befitting the deepest philosophical examination of self he steps outside his own consciousness to reflect on the ignorance of others' opinions and preferences, and the difficulties this causes when examining the topic of voice acting.

Yeah sometimes it's better than nothing. The Zelda games handle it with more class than say Okami. Issun (Ammy's guide) voice became so annoying not too long into the game.

If someone is talking to you about a story element, and there is no response from the hero but they carry on like there was then why not just add dialogue for the hero? That annoys me.

Okay explain how someone can like a silent hero, because I honestly don't see how they're good.

Because a silent protagonist can be used to project your own personality into the character, if I've got some shitty anime kid doing the voice then I'm disconnected from the experience, how can I possibly relate to that?

You use your imagination.

You don't care because Link isn't really silent and you can fill in the blanks for what he says.

Link is a blank template. I like Zelda that way, because it puts the focus on the player and gameplay rather than the story

Not quite. Link still clearly reacts emotionally to different stimuli where a true silent hero wouldn't react at all. So at the very least you can get the gist what he's thinking.

True, although he pretty much always gives either a funny reaction or a really obvious cliched hero reaction so it's not like he's being characterized all that much.

I still think Wind Waker's Link is one of the most personality filled characters in the history of video games. Even if he doesn't speak, every single one of his animations oozes with personality. By comparison, we get plenty of heroes who can speak but when you take control of them, they're nothing more then emotionless tanks.

I prefer link not speaking. After playing OoT3D and watching the demos of SS and thinking back on TP and WW I'm fine with Link staying silent but reacting to the npcs and events around him. The npcs are the most interesting and fun characters in Zelda anyways. They give the world character so if they were voiced Link wasn't I'd be cool with it. Kinda like Fallout in that sense.

Link should never speak. Also I think that these high-falutin' "grafficks" need to go too. I'm sick of Nintendo oppressing me with their version of Link, I want a Zelda text adventure so I can pretend that he still has pink hair. :C

They need to get whoever the guy was that did the various grunts and screams in Ocarina of Time.
Powerful acting.
Link to remain man of no words.

Either that or the guy who does Professor Farnsworth from Futurama.

No way. Things need to be spoonfed in lengthy cutscenes consisting of only dialogue read by an unenthusiastic voice actor.

Clearly Zelda needs melodrama. Link angsting and then falling in love. Also needing authorization from Zelda for certain weapons to be used.

I would never ever buy a Zelda game again if this happened.

How can I pass up an opportunity to see this guy in action?

Just let those fingers and animations do the talking, baby. No voices needed here. Use your imagination and come up with voices of your own.
