Is Flash not alive? I'm wondering because the 90's Sonic cartoon (the shitty one* with good production values but terrible, uninteresting everything else) says, and I quote "It's Sonic, he's the fastest thing alive." It then goes on to reiterate, in quick succession, "he's the fasssstest thing alllliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvveee!"
Now, since we already KNOW that sonic is the fastest thing alive, we need to find out why it APPEARS that the flash is faster. I believe I have found out a correct and logical reasoning that precludes a speedier Flash. Think about a time when you've seen something moving around a circle (or any periodic path) and it looked like it was moving slow, but you knew it was moving really fast. Rims on a car can have this effect, where you know the car is moving 50mph but looking at the rims it looks like they are barely rotating because of a visual illusion. This is called Temporal Aliasing.
Here's an example. I think what is happening here is that when we see Sonic run we say "wow, that's pretty fast" but we actually have NO PERCEPTUAL WAY OF KNOWING how fast he's really running. I think what's happening is he is going so fast that there's a sort of Temporal Aliasing effect in play. Now what kind of a cyclical path could be running that, when the effect of Temporal Aliasing is taken into account, might make Sonic faster than Flash? I think a path that stretched ALL THE WAY AROUND THE ENTIRE EARTH with a frequency of ~23-24 cycles per second might work PERFECTLY for our purposes.
Think about it. For every step you think you see sonic take, he is actually encircling the earth many times. The reason it looks like he's running fast is because he's actually running REALLY, REALLY fast. Indeed, it is Sonic alone who has wrought such unheard of velocities. It is he alone who has caught neutrinos with his bare paws. That squirrely fink, with attitude to spare. Indeed, it is Sonic the Hedgehog! Behold, the true champion of speed!
*the good 90's Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon was the one with such cheap production values that they just left the background white most of the time instead of drawing anything. This is the one where Sonic eats chili dogs all day long and calls Eggman, and I quote, "Robuttnik". Excellent stuff.
