Why are you buying an XB1?

Because I like to play video games, not count pixels and make a big fuss about why in 2013/2014, video games are still being played at a certain resolution or having such and such frames per second.

Thank you for joining in on the conversation. So why are you buying a x1?

For Xbone, it would be the exclusives for me but I don't want that many other than Forza and Halo. Much like the 360, that combo was ok but wore on me. I did love Forza Horizon though.

LATE EDIT.

I do have more confidence in MSFT delivering me more games than even Nintendo though but I don't know how consistent they can deliver. That's why I would rather buy an Xbone before even a WiiU. That's right, I mentioned WiiU here too. At some point I want to have all three.

Price is a barrier but I'm not going to hate or criticize even though I think it's too expensive. That's why I would want an Xbone before a WiiU and that's clearly the cheaper console.

If we're going to get more broad then you have games, fast UI switching SNAP, and apps. I think both next gen platforms will deliver that to all their future buyers. Going to be fun.

To my detriment, I probably should have worded my initial rant with the right context. To that, I admit I hastily didn't post it the right way.

I have no issue supporting MSFT when I see fit. I didn't have that opinion a few months back but I still see what people see. Stuff like multi platform performance comparisons and general games which MSFT is lacking compared to Sony. That still won't stop me from getting one in the future.

Because I like video games. Hell I like video games enough to post on an internet message board devoted to video games.

For a whole host of reasons i shouldn't have to elaborate on...main one being...I want to, and that is my informed decision.

I'll be getting a PS4 too, but that is besides the point.

More interesting exclusives. TV integration, all in one functionality, controller, Kinect, are all reasons for me too.

Not really much output based on this past gen though? I also find it interesting when people say just prefer Xbox 1st party games a lot more. We're all entitled to our own opinions, but based on this gen, really?

At least things will improve this gen for Microsoft this gen since they are going to invest more in the 1st party.
Since this is all opinion-based: Sony had "better" single player games with little to no replay value. The multiplayer games on Xbox are much more appealing to me.

I played it. I want it. I need it. in my veins. This will probably be the only game I have on my Xbox One for a few months.

Gears games, Halo, Forza, great online system, optional install to disc, COD timed exclusive dlc, HBO GO to watch my Game of thrones.

I completely agree with him. If Sony didn't have the stronger system at a cheaper price, I would be going Xbox one based on exclusives. Other than TLOU,Uncharted, and god of war, nothing really catches my eye.

Sony also seems to be killing off a lot of their franchises. And didn't ysop say that sony was going to cut back their AAA output due to increased costs of making games (something ms has already done).

At launch? Forza, Killer Instinct, Ryse

Beyond Launch? Halo, Gears (hopefully), maybe a Forza Horizon. Some of the other exclusives are looking pretty good too. Oddly, I'm also excited for Kinect 2.0.

This 720p with certain games business isn't too worrying when games like Forza 5 and NBA 2k14, which look beautiful by the way, are launching at 1080p. This seems to be more of a launch problem than a long term prob. I still think PS4 is the powerhouse though and most of my multiplats will go there.

The 360 is my favorite console so its only natural that I would continue with the Xbox One. Even as the well ran dry on major first party exclusives I still never ran out of anything to play with the multiplats, forza, halo and the gem that was XBLA. I also prefer the Xbox Live infrastructure and I love the controller. Regardless I will also have a PS4 at launch, so I'm fortunate enough that I don't have to make a choice.

I like the media capabilities of the xbox one. The fact that I can be watching a tv show while waiting for a match making session in COD sounds amazing to me.

Yeah, I can be watching an episode of Game of Thrones while I wait for a matchmaking game to be found.

1) Exclusives. Mainly, Titanfall and Halo.

2) Its the console all my friends have. To many this sounds silly, but if it weren't for my 360 I would barely interact with most of my friends and brother. This is a huge deal to me.

3) I love all the non-gaming functions. Exclusive TV programs, Skype, TV pass through, voice control, NFL integration, Xbox Fitness and all the other extras will be completely used by me. I don't really use my computer at home, so 99% of my entertainment comes from my console. More entertainment on my console means more entertainment for me.

4) Snap is huge for me. My GF lives in the US and I live in Canada, so now I can skype her in without ever stopping my Titanfall session. I like that I can snap in youtube, internet, fantasy updates, live tv. It is right up my alley.

I am not a graphics whore. I am the type of person that is still impressed by the graphics I get on my current gen console, so going from 512MB to 8GB and having a boost in processor should be a good enough jump for me. I think it is funny that almost the entire next-gen narrative has devolved into 720-1080P and GPU.

In a year's time when games are being reviewed, GPU will be a borderline after thought. TLoU did not get such high scores because of the power of the PS3. If the same game was released on the 360 it would have scored just as well. Both consoles will have exclusives I want to play, but I can only afford one (based on finances and time). So I choose the XB1.

Better games in the launch period, better controller, and of course there will always be exclusives down the track once the PS4 gets its own games worth buying another system for. It'll be like this gen for me... One system for most, and the other for exclusives only.

I'm also a firm believer that MS just "get" the OS level stuff better that the rest. Sony are catching up but when I think about the 360 vs the PS3 it's crazy how one just works while the other spends more time updating, pausing while things sync, etc. As new features are added I'm pretty sure MS will be the ones to benchmark OS features against, and I find that interesting in and of itself.

I dont think Ill buy one, but I am interested to see what their next Gears of War/ Halo franchise will be..... I am VERY interested to see what Sunset OVerdrive ends up looking like, I dig the style, but I get the feeling its going to a an MMO-lite

Quick question for you guys, do you the MS will create more exclusives in the future? One of the reasons they slacked off was because 360 multiplatform games sold very well and they leaned on that.

I have a decent PC and the launch exclusives aren't spectacular, so it's mostly for the all-in-one and new Kinect features. XBone is offering something new and interesting at least.

Dead Rising 3 looks pretty good though. PS4, maybe when there's some great games on the platform.

I like everything about the XB1 better than the PS4 besides the raw horsepower.

I don't see the raw horsepower being a factor that detracts from my user experience, but if I'm wrong, I'm going to own a PS4 at some point anyway, so no harm no foul.

It just won't happen at launch because of how bad the PS4 game library is right now.

I'm getting an Xbox one because I was satisfied with my Xbox and Xbox 360 and I'm sure that will continue with the next Xbox...

It's just more comfortable for me and I'm fine with that

Exclusives, great controller, and if this gen is any indication - a slew of infinitely better apps than Sony will offer. I'm just not ready to do that at 500 dollars.

I forgot there's Quantum Break down the road. That looks like a goodun.

MS are working and spending big on lots of exclusive content. There'll be some games to go with the niftiest multimedia box.

I expect Microsoft will "trim the fat" by not renewing contracts / closing studios that do produce retail games that sell well. So if Microsoft's retail games do well, they will probably continue them. If not, they will probably look to invest in new IPs to start the next generation.

I also think Microsoft is starting to get more interested in developing their own downloadable games like State of Decay and Killer Instinct. Since these games typically do not cost much to make, I think Microsoft will continue experimenting with smaller downloadable games in the future regardless of how well these games sell.

I'm not buying one - but was seriously tempted to switch for Titanfall

Resisting for now though and hoping for more details closer to launch.

I know someone who has switched though for that reason

  • Kinect
  • controller
  • reliable online
  • exclusives
  • the O.S look and kinect voice and motion navigation
  • satisfactory bump in graphics

• Xbox has the exclusives I want to play. Playstation hasn't had exclusives that have interested me since PS2

• I prefer Xbox's controller layout, though the Xbox One's controller doesn't look as good as the 360's

• I already have an account with Xbox and dozens of friends there, most of whom are also going to Xbox One. PS4 is unfamiliar territory and I'd have to find new friends.

• I prefer the features shown with the Xbox (twitch and skype, media features, etc). I'm actually very interested in voice control for Kinect.

At this point, I guess I am still iffy on the price, but it's never crossed my mind to get a PS4 over an Xbox One.

I do plan to pick up a cheap PS3 in the future though so I can catch up on some JRPGs and PS2 titles I missed.

im going XB1 because:

I want more than a straight up gaming machine, I game less these days

The ability to change my Sky+ HD box channel using voice frickin awesome to me (hope it actually works as advertised)

people expect a kinect when they come to a party at mine

MS buy exclusives of the sort of games I like (guess im a dude bro)

dedicated servers for online games means a lot to me as im very fast to blame other factors as to why I dont win "im shit because of host lag!" (I'm yet to be convinced that sony have the infrastructure to do this when games sell millions of copies later in the gen)

Halo

possible gears of war (please with dedicated servers)!

Controller (am open to the idea that the DS4 is on a par though)

Skype built in

Also Sorry sony fanboys I played unchartered and killzone and really couldn't see what your fuss was about. I guess Sony exclusives just dont really do it for me i'm afraid, I personally put it down to overhype and then subsequently being less trustful of what I read on Gaf

forgot to mention XBL, it works, I find people who tick off bullet points comparing it to PSN and conclude they are the same, amusing..

I typically play four or five games a year is all and they tend to be games I can pick up for thirty minutes at night and longer on weekends. Xbox has done a good job of keeping my family in communication through games since traveling to see them is difficult. Xbox continues to be the brand they want. As much as they are laughed about on here, my kids and wife love the kinect dance games. Wife is excited about the fitness program announced.

Maybe 10 years ago in my heavy game days I would be more worried about resolution etc but now I just want something that I can pick up for a couple hours on the weekend, stream movies(still waiting on these details), family will enjoy and can play my typical sports games with family.

Since this is all opinion-based: Sony had "better" single player games with little to no replay value. The multiplayer games on Xbox are much more appealing to me.

When I think big multiplayer exclusives, I think Gears and Halo so I'm assuming you mean those and then what other exclusives?

I want the games. I have historically always bought all of the consoles, so this gen will be no different. I'm intrigued by Sunset Overdrive, Halo, Black Tusk, and whatever else MS has in store for us in the next 5 years. It would be a shame to miss out on a ton of games.

I'm also interested in the cable TV functionality, though that is a totally ancillary point; I wouldn't give a shit if it wasn't in the console at all.

Baffling me the people who list "controller" was one of the features as if they've held the Xbone controller. Oh but hey, MS made the 360 controller, must be good right?

They said that about New Coke too...and M. Night Shymalan movies...and tons of other shit.

TitanFall and Halo was the plan. Plus the controller, now I'm not so sure. I think I'd rather just keep my 360 and get TitanFall current gen, buy a ps4 when Destiny comes out and then if Halo 5 is good, buy whatever console bundle they have planned then.
