Agreed. I am double dipping all over the place because publishing seems to enjoy great simplistic covers nowadays.
The Dune cover is awesome but I remember one eition with a blue background and just silver stars sprinkled on it? which was really rad. Cannot find it online though.
All my Murakami books are of this series, but the latest minimalist covers from Vintage are by far the most attractive.i actually love that pressing, but this one was better:

Penguin used to have those book series with orange covers and I really liked them. They looked good on bookshelf because of the unified spines. Same thing with Pelican Books.

The Swedish Harry Potter covers were really good: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Cover_art#Swedish_covers (they were made by Alvaro Tapia who have also illustrated Magic cards iirc)

I have an amazing Game of Thrones cover that shows Kings Landing, an armored knight, and Eddard in one corner with Cersei in the other, but I can't find an image of it.

Dutch Harry Potter covers were the shit.
Movie covers are the worst offenders.
This version of Norwegian Wood is also awful. The horrible colour choice and the derpy face really ruin everything.
