I like the "beep"... but when it sounds "beep beep beep" it fu**ing creeps me out
What I also dont understand is why I get a health warning every time I turn on ps3 and vita. Also why do I need to accept terms of service every time there's an update?
Glad to know it's not just me with the cracking. Even if it's universal, it can't be good.
Ya I saw the thread but never read enough into it to know it was top loading. Seems like a backwards choice. No excuse for the wording change imo.
Does not make sense! Not to me at least! >_<
(Haven't figured out how to turn off that sound that plays when you plug the iPhone into the Mac to charge it.)
It needs to beep because it's so easy to accidentally turn on. Why oh why did Sony not make you have to hold the button down on the controller for a few seconds to turn it on (like 360)?
The amount of times I've accidentally turned my PS3 on is ridiculous. As soon as I hear that beep I get infuriated and then have to run over to the console to turn it off - ONLY THEN IT WON'T LET ME FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS! Stupid Sony.
So you can't do any late night gaming.
It lets your parents know you snuck out of bed so they can find you and beat that ass/
What are you doing with your controller that you might hit the button of your not playing it, do people just like to randomly man handle their controllers? lol.
And if it takes 15 seconds regardless of any button presses on the console, why bother getting up when you can do it from the controller?
I've never accidentally turned on either of my PS3's, but then I put the controllers down when I'm not going to use it.
At least its not as annoying as the beep on a VMU with a dead battery.
Why post then? This should be in stupid gaming questions that don't serve their own thread.
I've wondered this ever since I got a PS3 back in 2009. It's pretty annoying and unnecessary. Why does it have to beep?

This sounds oddly erotic....
The cracking sound is the PS3 cracking its knuckles to get ready to play some super powerful next gen games.what is the deal with the cracking sound!
I've never had any problem with the beep. Does it really bother people that much?
It's not loud at all, rather soft if i do say so myself.

So that you would know. Why post then?
It doesn't beep when you turn it off (unless it freezes and you get three beeps).

does it not make sense to you? The top loader does not eject the disc.
Still doesn't make sense.
If you're at the XMB menu, selecting 'Remove Disc' would not (as far as we know) pop open the disc drawer.
So you'd still have to hit the physical button on the machine and pull the disc out.
So the command would be useless on the new machine.
It's not as if anybody is going to open the drawer, then select 'Remove Disc' and then take the disc out.
It should've remained as 'Eject Disc' on machines that actually eject the disc and just been a blocked out option on the new machine.

Unless the top loader has some sort of lock to keep the disc cover closed, and remove disc unlocks it.
Stop spinning + door unlock? The disc needs to stay revved up to stream the attract mode movie on some titles.
Nevermind the beep, why can't I turn the PS3 power off without file system scan afterwards? This annoying feature apperaed in one of the firmwares and I can't find how to turn it off.
I'm partially blind ( years of sitting to close to the tv) so I need to hear that beep to know its off.
