Why Girls Love The Dad Bod

Those people either have a genetic predisposition or are getting help from a vial. There is no way your average guy is going to be able to naturally look like that at that age and I don't care how hard they hit the gym. There will be very rare exceptions.

Cause they are all on the juice right? Got it. You are as bad as CornBurrito

Honestly you claim that having muscles like those you just posted can help people see you as more attractive and get you ahead in the business world, but I don't find that much muscle aesthetically pleasing. Do you have any actual evidence, like a list of muscle:body fat ratio of the CEOs of the Fortune 500 companies?

But WHY do you keep insisting without any evidence that bulky as possible is the greatest from a physical aesthetics standpoint? Don't studies instead show that women prefer leaner builds?

Like this isn't aesthetically appealing to me:

That look isn't aesthetically appealing to a lot of individuals. Hell, you can never ever look like that no matter how hard you train. You need drugs and a lot of it. While I admire his overall body of work, I would never ever want to look like that.

What is your definition of "big enough"?

Um no. I know my wife loooooves my body because compares it yo other guys in our circles who all have dad bods or worse. I am by no means huge or ultra ripped. I just have the body of a guy with a decent diet who works out semi regularly.

Id wager most chicks who claim to "prefer" the dad bod are just making their overweight partner feel better, or are trying to convince themselves they like it.

Girls can get away with some extra meat because most still look hot with it. Guys do not.

As I clearly stated there will be exceptions, but there is no way your average guy can look like that at that age without help.

Why do you insist of robbing these people of their hard work? Isn't it obvious "AVERAGE GUY" will never look that way? Too busy sitting on his ass being a glutton. Average Americans are slobs. What are you trying to say? That no one can be this way unless they juice? There are tons of natural body builders out there, but now I realize Im sitting here arguing about bodybuilding on NeoGAF... This is pointless.

Secondly, I never said anyone had to be anywhere near this. I just said that there are benefits to lifting and training for size ( as corrected a page back, size that comes from training for strength). Also going back to actors... Do you think all the actors playing in recent super hero movies are juicing? I think Chris Pratt is an amazing example of an "AVERAGE GUY" who turned into a body builder.

That's photoshop and only a super small subset of the population does competitive body building--it's a niche as it can get as a sport.

For comparison, this is the current Mr. Olympia, the most celebrated body building title.

Phil-Heath-posing-front-and-back.jpg

Only 20 to 40 or so men in the world look like this. They got there via superior genetics, hard work, and tons of drugs.

Plus that's a show ready body builder, they don't look like that year round.

Dude if you a A list actor your looks are going to make a difference for you and yes I believe these guys juice. They are on crazy schedule,s live crazy lifestyles and have a very short time to get ready. They also CG the shit out of them in the films, you don't actually believe these guys walk around looking like that all the time do you?

Using actors is a terrible example.

These actors are basically paid to look good. Even for the ones that HAVEN'T used Clem or some other roid, they have dieticians, chefs and personal trainers with them managing everything they do to ensure they look that way during filming. Even then, they sometimes enhance the look with body makeup.

So yeah, honestly, its very very very hard to look like Evans for a TRUE average guy without drugs. Or having zero life outside counting your food and working out flat stick.

I believe people can do whatever they set their mind to, assuming everyone is on the juice takes that power away from someone who wants to achieve those results. You can do it if you work hard enough, there is no genetic advantage unless you are trying to compete.. For looks and health anyone can be in this kind of shape

These guys are also the genetic exceptions, they have talent, personality and confidence and that's why they are A list actors its not the fact that they hit the gym.

They made Seth Rogan a super hero and he is a class A dad bod.

EDIT. nvm. I give...

this is hilarious to me because my girlfriend and most of my female friends have all lamented about how it's quite the opposite. guys can generally get away with those few extra pounds while there is more pressure (societal and sexual) on women to stay in fairly decent shape. this thread shows this and the women sharing this on facebook probably mostly feel similar. it is very very common to see average or slightly above average weight men with thin and/or fit women, moreso than the opposite i would guess

In so far as the actor thing goes too. These guys do very specific lifting and dieting 24 hours before the shot they have to be in where their shirt is off. This stuff is so preplanned. No one is in god like shape 24/7.

I remember Vin Diesel saying that the reason why he looks so in shape in Pitch Black in shot exterior shots is because it was so damn cold out his body was flexing to try to keep the heat in.

This is an argument you're not gonna win on a forum dedicated to a sedentary hobby.

Women are judged more based on their looks.

That said, the idealized female body has more fat than the male one.

y'all posting giant super muscle muscle men bodybuilders and I'm just dreaming to pull this off by the time I finish college

and for the record I have an AVERAGE GUY™ friend who is pretty close to this thanks to self taught boxing, dieting, and exercising at home. Bruh doesn't even go to the gym like what the fuck

Ummm come on. Do you lift, if you did then you'd know that at least Miroslav is.

The speed at which these marvel actors get jacked....it's genetically impossible natural. It is well known how they got there. It's not really even a secret.

I am not anti PED at all but it is really not good to give average people the idea they can look like that dude at 80 without PEDs. It's impossible. At least if they know that they won't be reaching for something literally impossible.

Doesn't seem to matter when you look around. On any given day, I'm more likely to see an out of shape woman than a man.

There are definitely girls who prefer more physically fit guys, I agree with that. Further, the title of the article here is silly, just as it would be silly to say "why girls love beards." Well, some girls may like beards, but some may not; it depends on the woman.

Id wager most chicks who claim to "prefer" the dad bod are just making their overweight partner feel better, or are trying to convince themselves they like it.

I want to make it clear that this is a self enclosed belief system. Let me illustrate.

Let's say you argued that all women want buff guys. So, to disprove your claim, I produce a woman who claims to prefer slightly chubby men. You then claim she's insecure or trying to convince herself she likes it. Okay, fine. At that point, I produce a woman who prefers her women very chubby. and you claim she's also lying. I can keep producing women who claim to have these preferences, and you can dismiss them all as liars or insecure women or what have you.

Thus, there is no evidence I can provide which can refute your belief. All evidence to the contrary are just the product of liars or insecure people.

Girls can get away with some extra meat because most still look hot with it. Guys do not.

In your opinion. It's often considered the opposite; women aren't the ones who hugely predominantly suffer from anorexia/bolemia for no reason.

It doesn't mean your opinion is wrong, mind you. You're welcome to those preferences. I'm just making it clear that not everyone agrees, and you seem to be falling for the old "my (and my wifes) preferences are clearly the true, correct preference!" problem.

I always find it cute when people ignore PEDs.

I'm not anti PED either, I just hate the unrealistic expectations they create.

Lol. Yeah let me quit my job so I can work out for most of the day like these actors are PAYED to do. Anyone can do it!

Comparing millionaire actors to people who have to work a 9-5 is asinine. Even more asinine is you suggesting people are just lazy gluttons for not being able to dedicate as much time as these actors to sculpting their body, despite these actors being payed to do it.

Nope you're right. I can see my post looks a little "my opinion I fact". I'm just saying that yeah, the majority of men (I think) will still find an attractive girl attractive with a few extra pounds. While the pressure on women in society to look good is immense, the pressure on men has risen dramatically over the last 5-10 years. I feel, because more women want a fit looking guy.

To be honest? Why not? Women bust their fucking balls to look good for their men (or women). Why shouldn't we as men go to a little more effort to look good for them? Its only fair.

Obviously there are women out there who would legitimately prefer a chubbier guy. But anecdotally, I know many many girls who make the claim yet will "phowoar!" Over pictures of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds bodies.

Sure, I definitely agree with that Collingwood. Insecurities are real and some women may try to make their boyfriend feel better or some such thing. But on the flispide, I think that many women who want a Hugh Jackman style body do so because they are influenced to do so by popular culture. Some people may prefer that look naturally (naturally here meaning that would have been their preference whether they were born in 1720 India or 1990 US), but others only prefer it because that look is reinforced by our popular media.

That's my ideal, even if I have a bit more body fat. I love the fast, lean, muscle build, and martial arts has been a hobby since I was a kid. Most of Bruce Lee's workout can be done at home, as I've adhered to it for a few months now. I don't look like that though :(

...yet.

Bruce Lee lifted heavy and hard. Deadlifts were a particular favorite of his.

Interesting point. Didn't think of that. Having said that though, does that speak to how easily influenced people are?

I like what I like because I do. When stick figures and small bums were all the rage in the early 2000s, I was still lusting after JLo and was even dating a girl with her body type. Always loved the curvy girls with bigger bums regardless. This is despite the thinner girls being the societal (see: Media influenced) norm.

My issue is with this recent movement of glorifying overweight people. Particularly women. Not because I may not find it attractive, but because its flat out unhealthy and a dangerous message to send women equally as much as turning them into anorexics.

People should be aiming to be healthy. Not necessarily fat or skinny. If you have a balanced diet and exercise semi regularly (not necessarily work out) your looks will take care of themselves. Even "dad bods" aren't healthy ones.

Those guys just look fat. I picture dadbod more in between fat and fit, kinda like what bodybuilders would call "builtfat" or a little bit more fit "skinnyfat."

Something like these:

Bruce Lee lifted heavy and hard. Deadlifts were a particular favorite of his.

Lifting obviously not unless you've got the right weights, but a lot of the cardio and calisthenics are easy to keep up with. He did a lot of compound weight exercises later on if I recall, and only every other day.

These type of threads always depress me, i literally have nothing that the ladies find attractive (according to articles that have been posted) wide shoulders?... nope, Dad Bod?... nay... and... and... i forgot the rest, but i don't ever remember thinking... yeah i got that, oh well.

I'm a gay man and I love the "dad mod" (never heard of the term before now). In fact just this month I started to gain weight for the first time since 2009 and I'm super excited about my growing belly (and ass, chest, legs, etc. But the point is I'm choosing to have a slight belly by gorging on nutella and other calorie dense foods).

I've had visible abs all my life (except for a short stint in 2009), and I'm excited to lose them.

Sounds like another name for bearmode. Strength + Prosperity. Personally, I lift to gain muscle mass for a higher BMR so that I can eat more delicious food. :D Speaking of whole pizzas, I made three tonight for the family, and ate one myself. Bearmode rox.

ugh i was talking about this with my girlfriend and all those reasons are so stupid. they make girls sound so fucking insecure.

I'm guessing this also has to do with some not being attracted to "Pretty Boys".

the shit I experience really blows my mind.

I can have my hair braided in cornrows...and some girls are undressing me with their eyes..

but I can have my hair down curly....and boy do I have to work harder. :/

most woman I mess with do not like guys with long hair, at least they tell me so. But they make an exception for me. How lucky yay. :|

probably unrelated but iirc women are more easily influenced by what other women consider attractive, so you can maybe see attraction being a social experience, rather only relating to one's specific tastes

in effect what more women consider attractive at any point in time may fluctuate more than it would for men, or instead have more aggregated tastes, with less dissidents

more than men, that is

I think media capitalizes on attractions which are already there. For very primal, almost instinctual reasons, we are attracted to health.

edit: Women tend to be less visual than guys however.

Possibly, but I wouldn't go too far with evolutionary psychology especially when you haven't even tested the hypothesis. We know in some cultures heavier women are seen as more attractive by men, those cultures being ones susceptible to long periods of famine. Attraction isn't purely biological. Preferences for beards vs clean shaven for example.

You do know that those aren't what those guys actually normally look like right?

That they go through hours a day of training pre-role and then all of those scenes are pre-planned to coincide with very detailed diet and intentional dehydration routines to get that lean look, right?

I mean, Hugh Jackman lost his shit when they suggested re-scheduling his bare ass scene in X-Men DoFP because he had that shit timed down to the day.

I work with a semi-pro cage fighter who is ripped as shit. He says he can drop 20-30 pounds in a week before weigh in and yeah, when he does he looks super cut, but normally he just looks like a jacked up mofo, not nearly as lean as the Hollywood superhero look.

Hell, Henry Cavill was basically on IVs every minute he wasn't on set during the filming of the most recent Superman film because so much was shot in skin tight outfits that he needed to look ripped all the time, and the only way to achieve that without killing him was dehydrate, film, inject fluids, sleep, repeat.

I personally don't equate "hard work" with doing something no one who isn't getting paid millions to depict a super-human physique should ever try to attain. Lets have a shred more realism in what is actually a healthy human form.
