Why hasn't Konami remade Silent Hill 1 with SH3 and 4 graphics?

i wondering when it became the gaming standrd to dig up old games and remake them? this didnt used to the standard - cant we let the games live in nostalgia?

Yeah, the original game certainly uses the PSOne's image quality issues to its advantage. Anyone playing it should certainly only play it through either a PSOne or PS2 on a TV and not use a PSX emulator to up the resolution or anything, it plays alot better using the original graphical fidelity of the engine.

It doesn't need it in my opinion, you only notice the graphics for the first couple of minutes and by then the story and tension has a hold of you.

For the love of God, dont get SH4. Act like it was never created. Buy SH3 instead, it's easily worth it.

boo hoo hoo. SH4 1st person parts > anything in SH3, but SH4 3rd person parts < anything in SH1-3. Still a good addition to the series, just not the best by any means.

SH5 hopefully will be all first person.

Actually, I've heard that the game has issues when run on the PS2...something about the fog not working right. I've never personally tried it, though.

Nah. Nothing wrong with playing it on the PS2.

Yeah, every interview where they asked about the next have hinted towards this aswell.
Or atleast a radical change. They say that they found the 1st person section succesfull and I totally agree. Those parts were awesome.

This is very true. Konami should just wait until near the end of the PS3/Xbox 360/Rev gen and re-release Silent Hills 1-4 in a remake compilation. They could use the same engine for all 4, along with lots of the same art assets.

I like SH1's gritty graphics. SH loses something when it looks really clean, and the filters just don't make up for it.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Speaking of games Konami needs to update....

Or was that only published by them?
Did Lucas develop it?

Shit, I don't care.
JUST GIVE IT TO ME FOR DS.

And a next gen sequal.

Edit:

With that out of the way, expect some Silent Hill game news once the movie is released in April.

E3 in May?
No Silent Hill game tie-in at ALL announced yet...?
We're not going to let the SH momentum slip away...

Hmm... maybe some Rev SH news after all?!

Yeah this one is overdue for aremake. Since I only enjoyed SH1 and 2, I would be first in line for a "director's cut".

In case you all wanna know about what has been hinted at with SH5

Silent Hill 5

*The game will be released on a next gen console, the developers stated they're releasing it on the "best" console it is unknown if they meant hardwarewise or saleswise. It is to be assumed from this statement that SH5 will be a exclusive title.

*Since the FPV in "The Room" was so succesfull the team decided that the FPV will take a more crucial role in the gameplay.

*As with Silent Hill 4, SH5 will be even more different from the rest of the series, so those hoping for a "return to the roots" game you can stop hoping now.

*It's possible that SH5 will even more about action gameplay but will also go back the psychological themes.

*The developers have expressed they want to play with the idea of "light" and normal days gone wrong with people going about their bussiness. One could assume that SH5 will take place in more open enviroments, maybe some non-linear enviroment?.

Actually, I've heard that the game has issues when run on the PS2...something about the fog not working right. I've never personally tried it, though.

I don't remember any problems with the fog, but there was some weird phenomenon that caused the trees to appear to have snow or frost clinging to them if you turned on PS2's texture smoothing. I actually couldn't even tell that it was a graphical glitch until I saw a thread on some forums about it. Strangely the glitch fits in the graphics of the game...eerily well o_O.

Er...walking around a tiny apartment in first person is not exactly incredibly exciting. Silent Hill 3 was a great game, too. SH4 would have rocked if you didn't have to go through the game "twice"
while escorting a dumb CPU character.

That would be pretty fucking cool if they did that. I still remember my first time playing through Silent Hill. I knew it was some kind of "scary game" from my friend who played the demo but really had no idea what i was instore for. I had the music up REALLY loud because it was so soft. That very first area in the convience store when the radio starts emitting static :lol.

I kind of liked the apartment aspects of SH4, it was weird as hell with all the passages and stuff and all hell breaks loose. But it didn't keep my attention as well as the previous games, not really sure, might have been the story, or the reusing of areas, can't quite pinpoint it but I felt underwhelmed.

I played Silent Hill back in 2000, only at night, over about 3 or 4 days in January in Northern California. I opened the windows next to me all the way and raised the blinds to the ceiling. Feeling the cold wind buffet my face while being chased onscreen by phantom zombie babies crying and wielding butcher knives was the single scariest f-ing gaming experience I have ever had.

I applaud this idea of a SH1 remake.

I would suggest tracking down SH1 and SH3 before SH4. Each has their up and downsides:

SH1 - the worst graphics, but good for a PS1 game. The story is hard to follow; almost nothing is explained. This is good or bad depending on your point of view. I didn't understand the story when I first played it a couple years ago since some of the themes are not familiar to me
(such as a person "splitting in two").

SH3 - the best graphics in the series. I think you would enjoy this game a lot. The disturbing imagery/monster designs of SH2 are taken to the next level. If you start with this game, be sure to read an outline of the plot of SH1 so you know who Heather is and her relationship to the Silent Hill cult.

SH4 - the worst in the series, but not nearly as bad as some make it sound. The story is very good, but be forewarned that the story is nothing like SH2 (it revolves around a
serial killer
). The game is pretty linear as well (at least in SH2 I felt like I was exploring the town). Don't dwell on the game's obvious flaws (mentioned already in this thread), play witht the lights off and the sound up, and you will like it.

I played them in the order 2,3,1,4 and would rank the overall quality of each game the same way.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Since the SH movie looks to be following the SH1/3 story, perhaps Konami will make a SH game based on a movie, and that way we get a next gen tratment of a kinda SH1 remake.

The game has graphics issues if you enable texture filtering on PS2. If you keep it with no enhancements, it's all fine.

I say wait till the graphics literally have come to a hault in terms of what can be produced before we remake everything, after that it's anyones game.

When SH1 gets under your skin, which it will, graphics won't matter. :)

Still, it'd be cool.

Eh... but have you played the original recently? It's not a matter of graphics whoring, it's a matter of going blind from the dirty, choppy graphics. Even a few years ago I went back and tried to play through it again before starting Silent Hill 2-- I barely could. A remake with a decent framerate, tightened control, etc would make a huge difference. The atmosphere is still creepy as hell, but I doubt I could ever play through it again in its current condition.

I have to say though, back in 2000 the lighting effects, cg, etc were amazing.

I was standing in EB where the PS1 games used to be, and I was thinking how much I'd like to play Silent Hill so I'm game for a remake!

Because it belongs on the Revolution. Dummy.
SH1 remake on Revolution would be awesome, actually. The SH5 on Revo rumour was already debunked and really didn't make too much sense anyway. Ok, the developers want to go forward, but they could just outsource it.

@Himuro: Get SH1 early if you intend to see the movie. You wouldn't want it to spoil anything for you.

Why? All that'd do is leave people always asking "What if Team Silent had done it", so its best to just wait until they want to do it. That'd result in the best product anyway.

This might make you wait forever. I fully understand their standpoint. Doing the same game all over again must be real boring. And I'm not so sure that other people can't deliver quality at least equal to Team Silent's. It really depends on the talent of the assigned team. The music should be left intact, of course.

it would be a waste of resources now... and I doubt it would sell very well. Unlike, say, a PS3 FFVII remake, the demand just isn't that high for a SH1 remake.

Now, if Konami put SH1 (with enhanced graphics) on PSP, that might do fairly well, but I think Team Silent is far more concerned with getting beyond the bad press of SH4 and reigniting the series with the film and next-gen SH5.

Don't worry about SH1's PS1 'aged' look. It's still a fantastic, eerie game. Get through it, play SH4... then start on SH3.

They've gone on record of saying that if there is another handheld SH it wouldn't be in the same style as the current games. They don't think its possible for a handheld to handle a survival horror game properly. The team has gotten big recently, so they could potentially do SH5 while having the other team do the remake for next gen. If they wanted to.

I'd rather have it remade on the PS3. Remade, and upgraded with more to it. That would be heavenly.

Or a Silent Hill: The Movie: The Game. :p
