Why is "just playing some games" still not an okay response to "wuu2?"

For the oldies: wuu2? = What are you up to?
Just couldn't fit the full phrase in title.

Anyway - so you're walking out work and folk ask each other "What are you up to tonight?"

Answer: "Gym!".
Reaction: "Oh nice one!"

Answer: "Watching <movie>".
Reaction: "Oh nice one!"

Answer: "Nothing much".
Reaction: "Just relaxing then, nice one."

Answer: "Playing some games" (or any such variation).
Reaction: "Uh... Okay. Don't you do anything better with your time?" or "Wow you have a boring life" or some such shit

I am of the oldies and I come bearing a message from your future: someday you won't give even half a shit about these reactions and the sooner you get there, the better.

Stop caring what people think. They are irrelevant.

This. Could not give a fuck less if someone thinks gaming is childish. They can eat a box of dicks covered in I-don't-give-a-fuck-sauce

ive never heard anyone say that

Seriously, and if someone did say that to me I'd be like ,"what's the difference between you sitting here for an hour and a half watching a movie and me sitting here for an hour and a half playing a game?"

If anything playing a game is more engaging to the brain. I have to solve things. figure things out ,etc

Considering I've spent the last decade working in varying levels of the video game and tabletop game industry - that's actually been the typical response by literally everyone I have worked with.

Did this actually happen? Or are you mad at a hypothetical situation and made up response?

It happens any time I say I'm playing games to anybody I know that isn't a gamer. I tend to default to saying I'm doing nothing lately because it's more socially acceptable than playing games.

Damn, just turned 22 yesterday and guess I've become an oldie, never heard of wuu2.

Also never gotten that reaction, it's either "you wanna play together" or "let's do ____ instead". I wouldn't really care if I did get that reaction tho

Edit:
Why don't you guys say wyd?

See this I see a lot

Why don't you guys say wyd?

But on topic they probably don't play games and don't know how to have a convo about them

You're part of the problem. Speak up, holy shit this makes me angry.

You have some really shitty or just plain dumb 'friends'.

Never seen someone use wuu2. I see wyd more often. Fuck those people tbh I respond saying "playing vidyas." if they don't like it then can stop texting me. I'd rather lose a rank in rocket league than read a long ass text.

Also, majority of my friends and cousins play games so no one says that shit.

If they actually type out words, I retract my shithead comment. But if anyone does send you wuu2, call them a shithead.
Why would somebody type when I am standing in front of them?

If you read the thread I'm talking about real life conversations. With people. In work. When leaving.

To be fair it seems like a very... aol-ish, icq-ish kind of term. I've never heard about it either.

Oh ok. Well, views vary from person to person and some people think games are a waste of time. Your coworkers fall into that camp. Hope that helps clear up the confusion.

Get better friends? Most of mine don't play or don't like games but they respect it's my thing. Plus whenever their kids want systems or games and they have questions they come to me.

Same as I have no interest in their hobbies but I am cool they do them.
