I would not call it hypocrisy - more like retaliation. "It is not us who started that war" basically. And the attitude of sony fans with their high horses regarding exclusivity does not win love either (just look at poster above how said that PS brought Heavy Rain to PC (after 9 years). Thanks lol)
I'm not really so sure that I've seen a lot this high horse business you speak of. NGL, I'm a PlayStation gamer, have been since 1996 and it's never changed and I can see Sony fucking themselves up like in the PS3 era all over again and this buying up of exclusive games... it really makes me feel like people have short memories round here. Bioshock started off 360 exclusive? Mass Effect was kept 360 exclusive for years. Dead Rising started as 360 exclusive. Metro 2033 was made a 360 exclusive. Gears of War was going to multi-platform before Microsoft bought the IP but was firmly a 360 exclusive up to that point. Who started the 'get this downloadable content first before anywhere else' business also? That'll be Microsoft also. It was also Microsoft who turned Sony down when they tried offering an olive branch with cross platform play. Success breeds arrogance and it's disgusting. Go back even further, Microsoft fucked up so many companies pulling out of marketing and publishing agreements. Look at Double Fine and Ninja Theory (formerly Just Add Monsters) - Microsoft now own them but nearly put them both out of business a long time ago, Double Fine nearly went under before they began! They sure as hell fucked Oddworld up, which I believe is the first time I had heard the term money hatting.
I mean look, I'm not happy as a PlayStation gamer that Final Fantasy 16 is exclusive, or Ghostwire Tokyo or Deathloop. I think it's waste of time and it's ridiculous that Sony would be picking up exclusive Final Fantasy games after everything that Square did to make the series go multi-platform. I would rather Sony put proper money into expanding their first party studios, since Microsoft very quickly went from being a much smaller entity to virtually double the size of Sony first party studios if the two additional acquisitions are to be believed.
I have no issue in developing your first party, what I do take issue with is disrupting the market. Sony and Microsoft are both guilty of this. But Microsoft is not guilt free and arguably are only receiving a taste of the medicine they received last generation, soon to be generation before last. But I would rather Sony acquire content that is already exclusive to their platform such as KojiPro or Bluepoint to prevent people having things they are used too taken away from them, or bringing back forgotten giants like Konami who died a death. But swallowing a whole publisher is a bit of a dick move. And since Sony started their great quiet in 2017, Microsoft fans have been all over the high horse. Our console is more powerful! We now own X studio and x Studio etc. Now it's our console is cheaper! But I maintain that OP is right. Microsoft is being very anti-consumer and people just think it's funny or 'oh well, u mad bro?' Imagine if Sony bought 2K Games or Activision. Pfft.
