Sometimes yes... but I once had a defective PS2 that was the opposite! It wouldn't play DVD games, but would play blue CD games. The PS2 breaks in mysterious ways

Huh? Standard Bluray has round edges as well. It feels very different holding a BR disc compared to a DVD disc because of this. Now, of course, this variation could be even more rounded or something.

They *most definitely* are. Try holding a DVD then a BD, there's no way you can't tell the difference.

A gentle wipe with a cotton cloth was already enough to inflict hairline scratches on Xbox or Wii discs (although the SSB Brawl disc seemed to be more resilient).
