Did you even bother to read the article?

Man, that's amazing, these simple paint skills our ancestors had. Archaeology always fascinates me.

BD discs have always been like this lol. I've got heaps of bluray documentaries and movies that have rounded edges. Haven't noticed on Ps3 or 4 but definately on movie discs.

i just got my Wii U today! this is actually really cool. gotta say though, i find it kinda funny that Nintendo is still using proprietary formats in 2015.

so the money they could've used for a half decent online-eshop experience, they spend on making discs more comfortable to hold

It is bluray, they just can't call it that since they opted to not pay the licensing fees.
How does that work bluray isn't just a trademark, I just read panasonic made the discs and they hold a share of the BluRay foundation but I'm still curious just how that works.

Also it's not like the Wii U is cheap, I'd still have to fork over €279 for a bundle.

Nintendo's done a lot of interesting stuff with the Wii U with regards to is game disks as well as the OS. It's unlike any other game system OS, each disk contains a segment of the OS due to the fact that the OS is not running while a game is running. The Wii U also has a dedicated processor just for running the OS called the IOS internally.

Since I've been swapping between Captain Toad and Smash U quite a bit as of late, I've really come to appreciate the simple, smooth comfort of these rounded edges. A nice touch by Nintendo. :)

I don't see why having a proprietary format leads you to call them any of those things.

Pachter estimated MS paying to $2 to $3 royalties per unit to Sony (technically wrong since sony doesn't own bluray) but you get the point it isn't a lot.

The Wii U wasn't cheap in the first place, especially not considering its performance leaving out a feature like BluRay playback is just cheap.
