• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Wii U hacking no longer even requires a PC.

Can I use this to take my Wii VC purchases and put them into a Wii U?

And a bigger question is, my Wii is North American based and the Wii U I plan on getting is Japanese, because I live here now.

I actually want to reverse import if possible that kusoge Devil's Third. Lol

Mainly because the Japanese version censors dismemberment.

So it's safe and you lose no modding/homebrew capability if you update to the latest official firmware?

Only if Nintendo bothers to release an update. The current FW has been exploitable for several months already and they didn't budge. I'm starting to suspect they dismantled the FW team already.

"What are we paying you for?"

What if I only want to try out some Smash mods and literally nothing else? Can anyone point me to a Smash mod tutorial that it's generally agreed upon is beginner/layman-friendly? I tried to figure out how to mod Smash a little while back and had no idea what I was doing, but I'd still really like to try out some mods if it's really as easy as the OP makes it out to be.

Maybe we could get some details so we don't get repeated questions.

You can still access everything online including eshop since the hack needs to be reset if you turn it off. Even when it's active the console thinks it's the Mii channel.

There's no CFW so you can almost only do things you already can on your Wii U. Rip and dump games. Inject games in the VC, certain cheats and mods for games (Smash most notably) and region free games

All of the hacks that involve the Wii side need to be done with the usual Wii homebrew channel. Includes GC games and emulators

I haven't done anything with it since May so if there's anything I missed it could be added

Right here.

Hasn't this been possible for months? I did it a good while ago, no PC required.

Was hoping by now you wouldn't even have to use the internet browser to get homebrew running but I guess that's not the case

Does it help with load times if you play off of SD?

It makes them worse.
ATM homebrew is cool to backup your games and to maybe play some edited content, but to actually play your backups isn't beneficial. Can't even go online.
We have to hold out hope the full hack gets released someday to get stuff like HDD loading, which is what really would improve loading times.

Is it now possible to inject F-Zero X incl. Expansion Kit into Virtual Console? This would be the one reason I would like a hacked Wii U for...

Was thinking the same thing. I'm confused that it was said the wii u thread has nothing about this in it but there are literally pages and pages of discussion? What am I missing.

Also, months ago I set it up so I could use my pc to run the server to save having to go online using the loadline link incase the site went or to save me accidentally updating, which I preferred actually.

Edit: after more reading it seems the development is the initial set up of the sd card can be completed using the wii u console now, I think that's what I missed. That's fair enough!

People really install an App from a hacker website? Kind of naive.

And after that they wonder how the virus git in their home network...
Just as naive as to immediately connect "hacker" with virus. You dont look at the sources when deciding if news are biased do you? And we have yet to see a virus that jumps from console to another device (different architectures in this case as well). Worst I've seen on consoles are bricking and account stealer.

I mean it's literally right in the OP... and the title... The news is that you don't require a PC at all for any step in setting up the hack.

I mean... you could say that about any hack or anything that modifies your systems in any way... That said, this is a heavily verified site and everyone in the Wii U scene knows it...

What's the state of emulation like on Wii U? Any decent N64 or PSX emulators? I might install this hack for emulation if so. Not terribly interested in Smash mods.

The funny thing is, I used to be all over homebrew especially for emulators. Yet, with the Wii U and 3DS, I am so ridiculously satisfied with the systems themselves and also the VC that I just don't care anymore. Bravo Nintendo, I guess! I think the fact that nowadays we carry smartphones around that can do anything our consoles can't is also a factor, too...

so you can play game cube games natively? err so no up rezzing ?

You'll probably get a slightly crisper image because you're using HDMI (although will be pretty comparable to using Component on a Wii or Gamecube), and some games have a widescreen hack, but that's about it.

Can't wait for Nintendo to stop doing 3DS firmware updates so homebrewing it will be even easier, same for Sony with the Vita.

I'd love to be able to get some of my PSP games on my Vita (that aren't available on PSN) and get those great NES and SNES emulators on my 3DS.

Well they said they'll still be supporting it in 2017, so maybe 2018 will be the death blow.

How do you think literally any rooting occurs? What is the magical leap that occurs for you between doing something over a website versus.. downloading it locally?

I wish there was a well written guide for this. I always worry I'm going to brick my console.

  • Format SD card to FAT32
  • Stick in Wii U
  • Go to website I posted in OP
  • Use the second item from the drop down list
  • Install homebrew channel and whatever other homebrew apps you want
  • Whenever you want to use any homebrew, go back to the web browser, click the first option, then use your homebrew.

That's it. This isn't installing al9h on a 3DS here.

cheers guys

so what would be a full list of reasons for doing this?

CEMU kinda discouraged me from getting one that and the price is quite high for the ratio of games i want to play ( hopefully emulation of older games can fix that ?)

The ability to dump your games would be why.

Backup/play any installed or disc games (no online though), emulators, cheats, region free, some little games here and there. The Wii U scene still seems pretty small, and there are still quite a few limitations since no one has a released IOSU exploit.

OurLoader is available and allows you to play games region free, yes.

Can I just make it region free and stay online? I just want to be able to finally buy physical games from here (PAL region) for my NTSC-U Wii U.

Oh! Are you positive I can safely hack my Wii U so I can play PAL discs on it and still have online? Positive? No bans?

Nothing is permanent, you have to activate it every time you go to play a game. There hasn't been an update in months, but that's no guarantee that a future update won't block any and all of the exploits.

No one can guarantee you won't get banned... But if you're really worried, just don't play online when you have the hacks activated. They need to be reactivated every time you turn the system on.

If I did this how easy is it to cheat on games like xenoblade and bayonetta?

Wanting to do a story run so cheats will help on xenoblade and just wanna mess around on bayonetta 1 and 2

I found this on their site which I guess I can download through the Wii U:

OURLOADER 0.2.0 coc4tm Region free loader for Wii U

This is all I care about. And I hope this doesn't get me banned. Don't really care about any game mods or backups. I just want to use my PAL physical games that I will buy,

And yea I'll stay offline when I play.

Will this let me rip / play my Gamecube games on my Wii U?

Yes, you've already been able to play GameCube games on the Wii U already, although you have to access them through the Wii mode. It's still awesome.

Sounds like there needs to be a more detailed Wii U hacking OP detailing the things you can and can't do..

Second this. Vita hacking thread does what Nintendont.

Still dont understand if this is worth it for pure TV emulation purpouses.

This isn't the general Wii U hacking thread, this was a 'new news, new thread'
