Wii U hacking no longer even requires a PC.

iirc, you can't emulate the GameCube but you can play it natively with a hacked Wii U.
So you can actually put GameCube discs in the Wii U drive and it reads them??

Edit: missed a few replies, seems like the answer is yes, excellent.

No you can't, but you can stick them in a Wii and rip them to an SD card, then use that SD card on your Wii U.

You can also rip them on a Gamecube, but it's a bit harder to set up than on a Wii, and you have to do it over network rather than to an SD card.

Ahh ok, still not bad, option 1 sounds easy enough.

Would be kinda crazy if there was a DS emulator for this thing.
There is, the Virtual Console one. Just buy a DS VC game on the eShop, rip it to a PC, replace the ROM file then put it on the SD card. You can even change a hidden setting to make the games run at a higher resolution.

Could be a nice way to have my disc-only games (the ones from Activision and others that never came out digitally) available without the discs. Games that I bought on disc that have a digital version I've already re-bought on eShop or will do so when they're cheap enough.

Now to find out if this method will allow me not only to rip disc games but also digital games out of their DRM, so that I'm not in trouble when my console dies and I need to move to another one.

No, but you can if you hack your vWii. You need a wii game for that, though. Like, one of Smash Bros Brawl, some Lego games, etc.

Well poop. What about uncensored Xenoblade X and Mirage Sessions? Can those be discs and have the patch on a usb hard drive, or does everything have to reside on one SD card? Cause all I have is an 8gb lying around, but have a 500gb usb drive.

Also, I go to the website and am not seeing a drop down menu. All I get is related links for wii stuff, ads.

Wait what?

Where how?!

At what resolution?

I think you have to backup them first, so yeah probably not worth it, as they're going to have worse loading times and no online for Xenoblade X. Maybe someone who has actually tried to run the uncensor patches can say.

What on earth is censored in Xenoblade?

Couple costumes for all, couple costumes only for Lynlee, Boob slider for your own character. I think that's all?

Does the SD card have to be clean? Or can I use the one currently on my Wii U (which is filled with Wiiware games and save files?)

I tried to rip my eShop copy of Tokyo Mirage Sessions four times today. Each time, the ripping procedure just stops working after it captures 1 to 2 gigabytes of data. The game just launches before the procedure is complete.

This is very frustrating.

One question, if I hack my wii u will i still be able to access the eshop like normal and play online without risks of getting banned?

I spent half my day yesterday trying to figure out how to mod Smash using this. The process is insane.

X.x

Come on Project M come back and hack Smash 4. We need you Uuuggghhhhh.

You can do some pretty cool stuff with it by just changing the script.

Oh wow, this sounds really easy. I'll check it out this weekend. Thanks for the heads up, OP. I missed this thread the first time around.

Do VC injections work for GBA and N64 too? If so, I might bite. It'd me cool to turn off the black filter in the N64 VC games I already own as well if possible.

I hope some day this lets you dump your WiiU game the the HDD and play them digitally. I have almost all the first party titles and a few that get play frequently.

Yes to both the injections and the filter. N64 compatibility isn't too hot though

How about DVD playback? Always drove me nuts they omitted that on both wiis

iirc, the Wii U disk drive isn't actually capable of reading DVD's. And no, Wii and Wii U games are not actually DVD's, so that's not the same thing.

Certain earlier Wii's were capable of reading DVD's and could play them through homebrew, but it was taken out in later models, and Wii U's never had the capability.

Thank you, I ended up hacking mine and everything works great. It's so easy too.

Do we know of a way of removing the dark filter in N64 games yet, or is it still being worked on?

Edit: Hold on, I always found it weird that people complained about the supposed dark filter because I never noticed it in DK64, and now that I'm testing other games... Is it really only present on the Wii U pad? Lol because I have no interest in playing these on it at all, so I'm okay I guess.

The biggest hurdle there is IOSU hacking (essentially custom firmware). We've had several people who've shown work on it, but we've had major people drop out of the community and the remaining people seem unwilling or unable to share their work.

Is there a way to access different e-shop regions?
I have been able to play my Taiko no Tatsujin imports for months but I can't get the DLC..

For some reason, i can't install the homebrew launcher (or any other homebrew) in my 32GB SD card (when i select any homebrew, the installation bar appears and closes instantly), but i can in my 1GB SD card.

I've already tried formatting my 32GB card with other tools and i still can't install anything. Is there a list of compatible SD cards that i should check?
