Wii U Operating System Update Wishlist/Buglist

Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no on screen notification system. When someone sends me a message I don't know unless I look down at the glowing home button or press it. Has any one done any tests to see if messages are instant or if the console takes a while to pole the server?

That I don't know but that made me think of an improvement I'd like to see... the blinking "home" button... I'd like to be able to choose what causes it to blink, instead of it just having an on / off switch.

Nintendo, you have got to get more demos of mature, HD games working in demo units in stores or you'll never get the numbers you want on this system. I can't believe you didn't have an Aliens, ZombieU and Batman demo on all those systems out there from day 1. Are you positioning this as an HD console for mature gamers too or aren't you?

And never mind "mature" gamers. If you don't think seeing games like Mortal Kombat were the reason 10 year old kids like myself at the time petitioned our parents to buy a Genesis, then you don't understand the kid market.

Anyway, /rant...

Stuff like achivements needs more debate. I have my own idea that there could be an app from which all game-specific achivements could be colleced from all users and put into that statistic, but this is one mighty operation as those games would have to log and send data to server, as well as provide it to nintendo if it's a third party. But I don't see nintendo having priority for this.

- Fix hard locks.

- Speed up everything.

- Miiverse Messages are horribly implemented. When I hit the Messages section of Miiverse, why do I have to scroll through EVERY FRIEND to find the person I want to message? Just put a search bar at the top and let me type out my friends' names. Jeez... so bad...

- Notifications need to be handled in a standard way. Sometimes my posts in Miiverse have been responded to and I don't get notifications. Same with messages. And why don't I get a little notification on the Home screen?

- Invites across games. I can see people are online with their Wii U while I'm playing Black Ops. Why can't I send them an invite even though they're not playing Blops themselves? Couldn't the OS say, "Hey, Freezie is trying to send you an invite? Why don't you hop on Black Ops?"

- FOLDERS! Seriously. This was a megaton announcement for 3DS, and then they forgot it for Wii U?

- Get rid of the Friend List app. It's useless.

- Add simultaneous HDMI for video and the other output cable for audio.

a install game disc to the HDD option like on Xbox 360 to to help with game caching/loading, actual size of the game and not padded out to the 25 gig disc capacity and end up wasting HDD space

better console start up animation then the static Wii U logo for 10 seconds, something creative like the Pikmin Wii-Wii U transfer

- Get rid of the Friend List app. It's useless.

I wouldn't say get rid of it, but I would rather it be integrated into Miiverse instead. I do like being able to check the status of who is and isn't online, but they definitely don't need two separate things for it.

I back the system level overscan setting, and wish PS3 had one too. Instead, most PS3 games make you adjust the screen at the start. Just store the adjustment, and let games access that info so they can adjust automatically.

I'm still surprised at the full RGB comments though. If playing on a TV it'll be expecting broadcast RGB levels which is 16-235

Do any of you have TV inputs set up for full range and calibrated accordingly? Is there a noticable difference?

Just found a new one. How come you can't search for a community? You have to scroll down every single community listed in "New Communities". Same problem with searching for a friend to message? You have to scroll through all your friends!

What does Nintendo have against search bars? D:

Are the OS assets not stored locally? Ha, there is no excuse for the sluggish performance. I'm thinking this thing is re-initiliazing a connection to the NN on every app launch. When I had a Vita, it was very similar in performance on initial load of apps, but the thing was a beast when it came to perusing said apps. With the Wii U, its just slow in every regard.

So, yeah. Speed it up.

Allow the Home Button apps to stay open when hitting home while they are open. I mean, how ridiculous is this?

Integrate friend list and video chat into miiverse. Get rid of the sesperate apps.

ive only had a few chat-calls so far, but not knowing what's up till i hit the home button, then either having me leave my unsaved game or miss the call is kinda wonky.

also the setup where adding people from friends list isnt shown to them as a request, but requests made via miiverse user searches makes no sense and should be fixed.

really though, account migration/ability to both move my account to a new system later (even with annual limits like XBL) and bring my profile to a friend's house is the single biggest unchecked box for me.

Limited range RGB HDMI output is mind boggling hur derp stupid, so full range is at the very top of my list and I don't even own the system yet.

In the mentioned Eurogamer article, linked to the OP as well, there's a complete explanation and interactive preview.

Eurogamer posted 'corrected' shots at the full RGB range in the article that made that revelation. I wonder if some HDTVs are able to do so manually.

Doesn't really affect me too much though, as projectors have pretty bad black levels to begin with :/

The point is that PC monitors and other high-quality screens cannot be used to their full potential. Most of the HDTV industry is mainstream and therefore fall in the limited RGB but it should be available for CRTs and other stuff.

Those guys that don't want HDTV lag would definitely want to use PC monitors.

USB Keyboard Support for Miiverse and Internet Browser please

and why does GAF force the browser to Mobile version :/

Doesn't detect WiiU browser yet, PM admin.

Please dobule-check if USB keyboard is already supported ? I think i heard something. (don't use USB-PS/2 adapter)

It kind of matters how the content was produced. But the issue is more about fitting the system into your setup.

For example, let's say you have a couple of devices that use full range muxed into a single input. You can't introduce a device with RGB limited into that chain ... you'd have to find another input path for it.

Similarly (and probably the more common situation), some people are using PC monitors as their display. Typically those are going to be expecting RGB full.

The only thing that really bothers me about the system is the freezing, that's unacceptable and must be fixed as soon as possible.

I'm patient with the rest of the tweaks for now.

Sure, but both are fairly limited cases, surely? So I wouldn't mark it as critical compared to some issues.

Would like to know how games are authored too - if they are developed based on video levels, then I don't know how the wiiU would support full range - would it apply a gamma curve to the output? Or just require games to support both moving forward? Are their ps3/350 games that make use of this extended range, or is it really just to support PC monitors mainly?

It's probably not as limited as you'd expect. For people with TV's that accept RGB full and own a PS3, 360, and/or HTPC/gaming PC ... they've likely already calibrated it that way. Not to mention anyone that uses a monitor for gaming is obviously calibrated for this.

That said, I've been concentrating on A/V discussions because I have some expertise on the matter. Obviously stuff like system lock-ups, crashes, poor UI performance, etc should be higher on the priority list for Nintendo.

Games are authored in full RGB.

How about being able to install games to the internal memory and/or external HDD? I don't have a 360, but isn't it possible to do that with certain 360 games?

I just want simple stuff. I want a power off button for the Wii U from the game pad menu. I don't like the physical power button on the game pad. it's very small and I always feel like I'll break it when i'm holding it down to power off the system. Being able to shut down the system electronically, like on the Xbox and PS3, would be great.

some kind of direct chat with people on my friends list, or people that i come across (say in NintendoLand) would be nice. Perhaps there's a way to do it, but i certainly don't know how.

The Wii U menu should fully support Wii Remotes and the Pro Controller for navigation.

What parts don't? After playing Mario I sometimes navigate around with the Wiimote pointer. I imagine a Pro Controller would work the same way just using the Dpad and button on the Game Pad works to navigate too, if you're avoiding the touch screen.

So today I booted up my WiiU without realizing the HDMI cable wasn't plugged in. Plugged it in while the system was on but then the WiiU refused to connect to wifi. Using the already setup connection didn't work and neither did trying to get a new one. Worked fine after a reboot but what the hell kind of glitch is this? I need to test it again and see if I can recreate it but I'm too lazy at the moment.

- Stop spinning the disc when I'm not using the disc (duhhhh)
- Let me turn off the Gamepad screen when I set the Wii U to download and auto-shutoff
- When I set the console to download and shut off, install the damn thing for me (durrr)
- Going into settings shouldnt take 20+ seconds. Fix this OS.
- Make Wara Wara useful. Right now it's just meaningless
- Threaded conversations in Miiverse, also add general chat etc
- Let the audio from the video/audio port function when HDMI is being used for video

My meager list:

- OS Speed. It takes waaay to long to do anything.

- Direct control over your Mii in the WaraWara Plaza. Why can't my guy run around and talk to people on the big screen?

- Text-only and Drawing-only views in Miiverse. Sometimes I don't feel like reading posts and just want to look at all the cool art people have done.

- Make screenshots INTUITIVE and exportable. The "take screenshot" button should be right in the Home menu. After you take a screenshot it should give you the option to save or post to Miiverse. You shouldn't have to navigate to Miiverse first in order to find the hidden screenshot feature. I should also be able to save screenshots to the SD card and transfer to my computer.

Miiverse, and very surprisingly the internet browser. I'm sure there's more but those are the most annoying to me.

I understand the gamepad is the focus of the system, but if I'm using the tv by myself I don't want to use the pad if the content is going to be the same on both screens. It's completely pointless.

The Wiimote and pro controller should have full functionality in the os.

Send messages from Friends List rather than going into MiiVerse.

Speed up the entire front end and I'm happy.

And try and control receivers so I can just control everything with the WiiPad.

The Miiverse messages system for friends should be easier to get to and use. On screen notifications for one thing would be very welcome. Half the time I do not notice the blue light and then even when you do, you have to bring up the home screen to even see what it might be.

I would love to if there is a functionality that lets you voice your feedback about the console services other than games. And about the hardware also, it might help them in case they release a redesign of the console.

I really appreciate this thread.

First full day of Wii U ownership, and the console is chock full of little quirks and odd design choises. However, the only thing that is really bugging me is the constant spinning of game discs when you're not playing them.

The console is really quiet when just its fans are running, but the unnessesary, never ending drive noise is really annoying.

1. Speed up the OS.
2. Put the friends icon on the main OS UI (where I don't have to hit the home button).
3. Add achievements or something. Or at least give devs the option to add them and display them under our MiiVerse profile.
4. Add a .com button the browser keyboard.
5. Add more communities not related to one game. Perhaps a help community, suggestions community, or whatever.
6. Tie our downloadable games to our NiN accounts so they can be recovered easily.
7. Get whoever designed the Netflix app to redo the Youtube, Hulu, and Amazon apps. Though I guess it won't matter much when Nintendo TV is released.
8. Add Crackle, CrunchyRoll, Spotify, and maybe a book store.

About it for now.

eShop makes a point to say it's only usable on the GamePad, although I don't know how true that is.

I want to be able to install games. There should be the option....

eShop baby.

I also want a mode where the system goes low power or standby but can still get notifications and download in background. Also can turn off GamePad screen. I want to know if someone is wanting to video chat etc without having to have the whole system on with the pad screen on.

Allow the screen size to be adjusted at an OS level so my games don't get cut off the screen. Fix my overscan Nintendo I only got a 720p tv!

Agreed, it's annoying. I also want them to not kill the OS app when you hit home. i.e. If I am in the browser and hit home, then go back to the running game, if I hit home again I have to run the browser again instead of being able to switch to it.

Likewise if I hit home twice I'm put back to the main menu.

Wii Mode games available directly on WiiU menu.

Wii Mode games playable on Gamepad screen.

Wii Mode games on Miiverse.

Faster switching between WiiU menu - Miiverse - etc

GamePad gyro cursor (Nintenland quality) for WiiU menu

Wii remotes should use gyro tech instead of that glitchyand flickery IR tech that don't work if you have lamps in the room or a bright TV

Why does the Home button have to close the app I'm currently in? I don't get it.

Go to Miiverse, look as some sweet drawings
Blue light flashes - someone has come online
Press Home button to see who it was
Oh it's XXXXX, great.
Press Home button again and I'm back to the main menu.
Reload Miiverse, scroll through the stuff I've already just looked at.

WHY?

Here's my list:

general functions and improvements:

-full RGB support needed ASAP
-OS level voice chat with group and party functions, hooks to enable it in games
-global overscan setting instead of app specific settings which is completely idiotic anyway.
-full wiimote support for all system apps and functions
-enable a home menu "light" for online portions of games that can perform most tasks without
-optional on screen notifications for friend activities (online status, activities, invites, chat etc)
-drop the bloody idiotic time restriction in the eshop. Stop pandering to age rating agencies and enforce parental control instead of this patronizing archaic bullshit.
-full game rating functionality, right now it's either glitched or disabled for 18+ games on the german shop... again stop with the pandering to german censorship if done on purpose.
- general purpose communities in Miiverse (general, lifestyle, advise, buyers guides, help-hints and tipps, art whatever)
