Will Hercules bomb?

There's no OT for it, there's no topic for it that I can find. I'm wondering just how much interest there is in it? It looks like a shitty movie in general anyways.

No. It'll underperform domestically but that doesn't matter for this movie.
It's not a big budget movie like Edge of Tomorrow was and they're not heavily marketing it, but The Rock's in it, so it'll do well. He's pretty bankable.

I guess it would depend on what the studio expects to make on the film, and whats it's costing them to produce. It does not look like it was an incredibly expensive movie to make so i'm not really sure what would be considered a success, or bomb for it.

I don't think it will crack the top spot though, what is it releasing against?

I haven't seen ANY tracking for this movie yet, and I looked.

I haven't seen ANYONE talking about this movie on social media. The only thing that came close is some pic with DJ playing with a kid on set going bronze level viral.

The advertising for it is basically non-existent as far as I can tell outside of the theater previews, where many people were audibly groaning or laughing at how stupid it looked.

No reviews yet, no impressions yet, nothing.

Doesn't look good.

$110 mil according to wiki. If it gets around $80 mil domestic and $300 mil international, it will break even, and I think those are realistic numbers. I don't know how big Rock is in China, though.

Someone in the other box office bomb thread said it best... "This will be the biggest test of The Rock's star power". I'll be surprised if it does well, really surprised. I'm almost certain it's going to bomb. I hope it doesn't because Dwayne is so fucking likable, but we'll see.

Taking this role just didn't make sense. I don't know what he was thinking. Maybe he committed to it at a time when he wasn't as huge of a star as he is now. I don't understand... anyone can see this is going to bomb and possibly be a big hit to his brand.

If this bombs, you'll see studios getting real skittish about The Rock's drawing power. Being in the F&F movies will only get him so far.

It's not like Faster, Planet 51, Snitch, or Pain & Gain set the world on fire. Empire State didn't even hit theaters. G.I. Joe was already established and considering the fuckery with that film (adding more Channing for the $$), it probably should've done better. Journey 2 was a sequel that did marginally better but the first reviewed well and journey 2 was rated significantly worse.

The Rock is a charming guy, incredibly likable and a good actor but I don't think he's a the leading man people think he is. His films do best when they're already established or have additional star power in them.

I saw a trailer for it yesterday before Dawn of the Apes so now I know it exists.

And yes, it will bomb.

Domestically? Yes.
Internationally, it will be okay.

I feel like you can insert any movie and the above would apply. They're isn't much buzz for it, and aren't they hiding the reviews until like an hour before it opens for the public. It's most likely lukewarm garbage.

The Rock is a charming guy, but they're aren't really stars that can "trick" people into seeing shitty movies anymore. You can make an average, dull movie that caters the lowest denominator and people might turn out. But if you're movie is complete crap, doesn't matter who are, people won't come out. You might be able to get their money on a bad sequel but first time effort, nah.

Nobody wants to see fucking Greek myth action schlok. Nobody wanted to see Sam Worthington do it. Nobody wanted to see that male model do it. And nobody wants to see the rock do it. You have to offer more than hot guys with muscles.

Hey! Hercules did take out Superman.:)

I'm not exaggerating when I say I had ZERO clue this movie even EXISTED before this morning, when I saw people mentioning it in the "Biggest Bomb?" thread (which I just jumped to the last page of). I watched the trailer and went "huh, this opens Friday..."

And I'm somebody who follows movies pretty closely, I have no idea how this film never entered into my conscience. It's like it was created in another dimension and plopped out here 3 days before it releases.

The Rock is on a whole different level than a nobody like Sam Worthington though, his starpower alone should get people to see this movie. Highest-grossing actor of 2013.

Maybe it's the TV networks you watch. I've seen trailers for this movie nonstop.

Tom Cruises summer blockbuster bombed. Will smiths summer blockbuster bombed. Star power isn't what it used to be.

Yep. People seem to prefer comic book action schlock.

Clash made like 450 mil, Wrath made 300 mil. Wrath didn't do great, but neither bombed at all.

Edge of Tomorrow didn't really bomb. It's in the same vein of Wrath, not a huge success and overbudget.

Also, The Rock didn't "come back home" to the WWE (promising to never leave the gullible crowd again for Hollywood) in order to promote this film. So you know it must be REALLY bad.

All of Rock's 2013 movies were heavily promoted on WWE television and were the sponsors of various PPVs.
