Will Hercules bomb?

If it does well, the Rock will get a sequel. If it bombs, the Rock will do some different movie with the same role.

I anticipate something along the lines of the Scorpion King, and I enjoyed that for what it was.

I actually just watched the trailer for the first time. I had seen small TV spots but never the full trailer. Yeah, no thank you.

One thing that really annoyed me about the trailer is the whole "big threat about to hit Hercules (or vice versa), cut to black or change scene at the moment of impact" thing. Lots of movies do this in trailers but it happens like 5 times in the two minute trailer.

This thread is basically going to become the OT for this movie, most likely. Didn't even the recent Conan reboot get an OT?

Even if this movie tanks, it won't ruin his career. It will just disappear and people will forget about it as quickly as it came.

It will be a colossal failure

I'm surprised people say they didn't know the movie existed. I've seen a lot of commercials for it outside the theatre, more than any other movie coming out. I don't know if it will bomb, but I know I won't bother seeing it. "You're smaller than I expected" "Then why do you stand in my shadow!" ugh.

The reviews seem to be mixed toward positive right now, much better than I thought it would be. Perhaps I'll go and see it now.

It surprised me to learn the other day rock was like the second most paid actor in 2013 (after RDJ).

What are you talking about, Hercules in NY is legendary!

I saw that movie when I was a maybe 10, possibly younger and I remember the first time Arnold spoke I was like "WTF is this shit?" It was really jarring, his accent must have been really bad at that time. Though now checking the Wiki for it apparently there's a version that's undubbed, I should probably find that.

WHY ISN'T THIS MAN EMPLOYED IN THE WWE?

Because of his looney girlfriend and being a cuckold, alpha male Vince doesn't respect him, well that and he was a dick to the wrong, well liked person in the company (Trish Stratus) but that goes back to his girlfriend.

Yeah but he was in six movies compared to RDJ's one.

No idea if it will be a success, but at bare minimum it should be better than that shitfest that was the OTHER Hercules movie that came out this year.

It looks too much like The Scorpion King for me...totally silly.

It will bomb...and I kind of hope it does. The Rock should know his damn role and pick better fucking scripts.

He turned down the lead role in Transformers for this.

I don't think I've ever seen audiences respond favourably to these kind of movies. Nobody gives a shit about Greek myths or Hercules anymore so I'm confused as to why he even bothered. Yes, yes, it's a passion project but mothafucka, we could've had The Rock, Optimus Prime and Dinobots in one movie.

You should do the right thing sometimes. He didn't do the right thing here.

Wow, really? What was he thinking?
I can't remember why exactly, but I know he commented he turned down the role and then it was offered to Wahlberg. Most of these movies are always terrible (Wrath or Clash of the Titans or whatver), and the trailer doesn't make this seem different.

All I know is there could have been a Transformers movie that just released that had Optimus Prime, The Rock and Dinobots in it. But that didn't happen thanks to The Rock.

Hmmmmm.

Well at least FF7 will come close to Transfomers money. I have no doubt.

Has anything the Rock has been in ever bombed? I'm asking seriously. People seem to love that guy and flock to whatever he's in. Even if it looks bad.

Rundown and Walking Tall, but that's mostly because he had just gotten started.
I still fucking love Rundown.

Doom bombed too, and so did Southland Tales, but Southland Tales is an anomaly because what the fuck that movie

Then he did Gridiron Gang (did well) then hooked up with Disney for 3 movies. Then Fast Five hit and here we are.

TEXAN ROCK: BATTLE DAD

He probably turned down Transformers because 1: It's a trilogy series and 2: Look at Shia

Yeah, probably. Seems like a fun lazy sunday movie but I don't need to see this in theaters.

In fact, this would be a perfect movie to test out the on-demand while still in theaters stuff on. I'd pay 8 bucks to watch this on my couch.

I hope it bombs to hard it brings down the movie industry with it.
That would be super interesting. Imagine, the ET video game of Movies.

Eh, considering how it turned out, I don't really blame him.

How it turned out? You mean nearing 1 billions bones world wide??????

Hercules isn't going to be any more deep than Transformers. At the same time both can be enjoyed without question. Just surprised he left such a huge opportunity on the table. I can understand he wanted to have his own series, but it's not without risk.

How many animals does The Rock kill in this? It feels like that's all he does in the trailer. It's a dark side version of Noah, kill two of every species.

His reasoning is probably this:

If you do Transformers, it's all you're doing for the next 6 years. And you're never the real star of those movies, vs Fast & Furious which is pretty much his franchise now.

I could see him being in the 2nd or 3rd one, though.

Will it bomb? No
Will it make less money than most other big blockbusters this summer? Definitely.

But that's okay. Xmen/Cap/Spiderman/Edge of Tommorow...they're all close to $175 million in Budget and they're marketing is astronomical.

Hercules is expensive at $110 million, but it will do relatively okay. Probably just around $110-$120 million domestically and then another $175-200 million internationally.

It'll be lucky to make half that. Expected to make $25 million or less opening weekend, and then it has steep competition for the same demographic through much of August.

Internationally, I have no idea.

Yep. I understand why people want him to be a big action star, but he can't really open a movie on his own. The most recent tracking I've seen has this only making ~$20 million or so opening weekend.

I'm also expecting his next film as lead, San Andreas, to be one of 2015's biggest flops.

It's now tracking to make 28.5 to over 30M for opening weekend behind Lucy.
