Will Soul Calibur 6 be announced on Comic Con tomorrow?

So most don't think there will be an announcement. Do you think there will be no announcement at all this year? It would be pretty f****** sad if Bandai Namco wouldn't even have anything substantial planned for the game series' 20th birthday this year. And this would imo hurt the franchise. There are many SC fans out there.

Not mentioning the game during its anniversary will have little to no impact on any future entries.

Wouldnt EVO like 4 days ago been the proper moment.

Basically this. While I'm fairly confident SC6 is coming, Tekken 7 is the priority at the moment, and I don't think we'll see a SC6 announcement until the main Tekken 7 marketing push is coming to an end.

At best we might see something at PSX in December, but my money is on an E3 2017 reveal.

What's with gamers' fascination with claiming series are dead before a generation is even complete? They teased it last year and did a survey. Like, let them work.

Right now, NB is doing Tekken 7 hard, and still fucking with MaxiBoost or whatever iteration they get to play on. After T7 is settled, we'll probably get more info, but I think CC is a little too soon beyond maybe more teasers.

One thing I hope they do is consider making an arcade board. As flimsy as the arcade scene is getting, it would do wonders to keep interest going. Just don't wait years to port it, NB.

Or maybe TGS, with a "Coming 2017" slapped on it.

Is there any actual numbers to back up the claims being made in this thread that the franchise isn't popular anymore?

I really don't think it'll be announced at Comic-Con, that said, I don't think the franchise is dead either.

I'm still patiently waiting for Soul Calibur VI to be announced, and for Talim to return!

Hopefully they announce with the third party character.

Samurai Shodown please, Harada is known to have a taste for the series, and apparently has some pull regarding releases...

Anyway, what are these social media hints that have been vaguely referred here? Can someone post links?

Screw Soulcalibur 2, they should bring SC3 to current gen.
But they should also fix the save game bug...

Again they've said there is a specific panel talking about it being Soul Calibur's 20th anniversary.

Yeah but what if they just talked about Xenoverse 2 the whole panel and went "btw Soul Calibur is 20 years old now."

There is a higher chance of a Soul Calibur character being revealed for Tekken 7 tomorrow than SC6.
I'm expecting this or a remaster. It's to early to announce a new game when they have t7 to release and I hope they would like to want avoid a situation like sc5 and ttt2 releasing the same year again.

No, they'll add SC character costume pieces to Tekken.

They already have...

Many of the new costumes are reminiscent of SC.

Wouldnt EVO like 4 days ago been the proper moment.

I mean it more in the general sense of "Fighting games aren't exactly on a huge upward trajectory and this part of the generation is about as good as it's going to get." as opposed to "Comic-Con 2016 is the true promised land of Soul Calibur announcement time frames."

Or maybe TGS, with a "Coming 2017" slapped on it.

Tekken 7 hits in early 2017, probably by the end of March to make it in this fiscal year. My thinking is that if you're going to announce another game that could easily steal some thunder from your baby (Tekken), you do it long before the release, or a few months after.

I could've seen Namco announce it at E3 2016, a good 9 months before the assumed release of Tekken 7. I suppose TGS is just as likely as PSX, but I really think it'll be E3 at the earliest, just to give Tekken some breathing room.

I'm much more excited for the possibility of a SC6 than I am over the release of Tekken 7 (2 years after the initial arcade release).

Deember 20 years ago Soul Edge released in Japan. Imagine a remake of that game, with upgraded mechanics etc. One can only hope.

ehhhh
imagine: sc6 with sc5 combat (they could remove those pesky supers, but they're not that cumbersome), proper roster (all those characters that were not there for some reason....), proper story mode and a DAMN proper single player mode..
and by all means bring back weapon effect modification..
make it optional so you can choose whether to allow them or not in multiplayer :X

i want to berievu!

I could see Namco using Comic Con to announce it. EVO would have worked, but it would have been among other fighting games getting time in the spotlight as well as the competition itself. I'd say Comic Con might be a better venue for an announcement. They're having that panel, so they'll have a captive audience of enthusiastic fans to go berserk when they drop the news.

SC5 was great. My only gripe was that Kilik became Edge Master and his place in the pyramid was given to Monkey Boy or whatever he was called. I hated that character and the changes to the staff-user moveset. They should bring back SC2 Kilik. Actually, revert all the characters to their SC2 version and use that as the base to build each of them on. Then have the newer characters like Hilde be their SC5 version. Revisit or remix some classic stages and songs and you've got a formula for success. Also throw in a mode that is inspired by the SC2 arcade conquest mode. Something where you join a team and fight for control over territories on a map. That was a lot of fun and they never brought it back or expanded on it.

Oh, and bring back the Dreamcast SC1 mode where you're traveling and getting into adventures having fights with special rules and conditions. You've got to have the story text in there too because it lets you feel like you're kind of there.

So yeah, I think SC6 could be announced and it could be amazing if Namco just plays it smart.

Uh... any more series deaths and 3D fighting games are pretty much done. I don't think we can lose another one so that's a very strange viewpoint to have.

At this point it's just Tekken and DOA left, right? And with no news on a DOA6, it's basically just Tekken. Wow that's really sad. :(

All of you people are clamoring for more modes and stuff like that. SC5 was made on short notice and a shoe string budget. They really regretted not having enough single player content to keep people around.

So you might see the return of the more adventures parts since they have more time to cook now. That'd be real fun.

Yeah, that might be better. People want this shit announced asap, but Tekken needs to get momentum first.

DOA6 is a surefire bet, but DOA5 has to die first for them to even start work on that. VF6 was stated to exist by a leaker, but who knows when that'll happen. I hope more developers start branching out again like Sega/Plat did with Anarchy Reigns. That game was so much fun.

But it's more difficult for fighters to live now that things have changed. You gotta have great netcode, good single player offerings, balanced game, arcades in Japan to keep competitive scenes alive, and then keep it balanced once the game releases. Back in the PS2 days, it was "drop it and forget it".

I agree that DOA6 is definitely coming, but as far as what we actually have announced right now, it's just Tekken 7. As a huge fan of 3D fighters, that's really disappointing.

Being a bit more speculative, DOA6 is coming and I could see some sort of collaboration between Team Ninja and AM2 for a Sega-published VF6 (Team Ninja would help alleviate some of the development costs, but it would mainly be an AM2 title). I don't really know if I see Sega doing it on their own, just like we wouldn't have SF5 without Sony's help.

So in theory I think the upcoming 3D fighter landscape looks something like this:

Tekken 7 - March 2017
DOA6 - Late 2017
SC6 - March 2018
VF6 - ???

That sounds about right. I'd move SC6 up to maybe late 2017 also. VF6 probably won't hit until 2018.

The thing about fighting games is, it's generally best (at least, in the current climate) to introduce them in a semi-close timeframe as another one. Fighting game fans generally like playing more than one game, and casual fans like game hopping for the content as well. Keeping up that momentum across the board is what helped fighters before, but now with this huge dearth, it's a lot more difficult.

That being said, it's harder to keep games going when they are from the same company. I feel like those games eat into each other more than competition does.

Personally SC hasn't been the same since SC2.

Too unbalanced, too pandering, the games just aren't as fun anymore.

SCV is the most balanced out of all the SC games. By a wide margin. Other things, I disagree with, but I see where you are coming from.

If there was something to announced, they would have done it at E3 or at EVO. Plus Tekken is on its way to console, so I'm not expecting anything significant until that's out the door at least.

Whatever they decide to do, they need to give the next game time to cook. SCV wasn't helped by being rushed, and SFV is the latest example of what not to do in getting a game out the door.

Didn't SCV sell nearly as much as TTT2?

Why do people think this series isn't very popular?

Either because of things that they don't like about the previous games, or because it's been a while since the last version even though they typically bring a new game out every 3-4 years.

Comic Con shows that they're doing something, and since SCV, they released SC2HD, Lost Souls, and various stuff on mobile, so it's not like the series is completely dead. Plus the series still has a large casual following of people that go to events like Comic Con, so hopefully they don't disappoint.

SC3 was a terrible trainwreck of a game and killed all of my interest and enthusiasm for the series despite loving the first 3 games.

Uh... any more series deaths and 3D fighting games are pretty much done. I don't think we can lose another one so that's a very strange viewpoint to have.

We still have Tekken and DOA and VF if Sega ever goes back to it.

This is the thing, I don't feel Namco has what it takes to make a good SC game anymore and having another crap 3D fighter on the market, particularly one with such a strong pedigree (In the past at least) helps no one.

Also watching the lifeless corpse of the series dragged around Weekend at Bernie's style is something I'd rather not see again. I genuinely loved this series at a point.

If anything it'll likely just be a remaster of IV or V. Or maybe a collection. Although if they remaster III hopefully they use the Arcade Edition as a base for the gameplay and fix the bugs of the PS2 version.
