Will Soul Calibur 6 be announced on Comic Con tomorrow?

I dont like the direction the series took with 5. They put the regular parry behind a stupid bar now. Why???
That used to be a specific feature of the game.

And all those "new" clone characters. This move was so 90s

Because it forces you to learn how to defend instead of relying on a mechanic that can cover up weak defense.

Great change. Hope it sticks in this imaginary sequel.

<3 all the SC3 love...

I had the luck of my local arcade in Central London having SC3AE (though with dodgy buttons :V), and the gameplay was so much tighter. Using the fixes, rebalances and an online version of the Legends mode from AE, combined with the console Chronicles of the Sword mode, would be ideal for a Soul Calibur 3 Complete Edition (in HD, of course).

Not getting my hopes up on SC6 to be honest, but the Facebook rumblings have intrigued me. Soul Calibur is my favourite 3D fighting game series so a half-decent entry would be welcome.

We had SC3AE in a mall arcade for the longest time. Nobody ever played it, but I played vs. CPU a lot. :/

Either make next gen Ivy Valentine come true OR make Ivy and Taki a guest character in Dead or Alive Xtreme or something.

I honestly liked some of the new SCV characters (Xiba was at least an attempt at giving Kilik a personality) but they needed fleshing out considering the story content was almost nonexistent. Mechanically, I honestly thought it was the best SC since the first one (as well as Soul Edge which I really enjoy). I wouldn't be against a Soul Calibur 6. Also bring back Seung Mina.

Not a fan personally and I feel all it does is make people use just guarding instead for much the same purpose, which is entirely meterless anyway.

Incorrect statement. The JP and US releases are full of poorly developed ideas, but the EU and Arcade releases of SCIII are actually stellar games. Tons of balance fixes, more fleshed out characters, and much better pacing. I always jump to the defense of SCIII when people trash it, simply because they never got to play the arcade version.

Quite clearly I was talking about the console version. I'm well aware of the arcade edition. I'd still take SC2 over SC3:AE any day.

SC2 had it's own downgrades from Sc1 including a much more meager command list and simplified GI's to say the least. SC2 also has the most notorious competitive reputation especially for having the G2 bug.

While still a bug/exploit, 2G was and still is widely held to be a positive force for the balance in SC2.

It would be grand, I loved SCV and played the hell out of it but at this point, I kinda just assume that the franchise is dead forever and I should just enjoy the previous entries because that's all we're gonna get now.

I haven't played Soul Calibur since the fourth so I would be totally in for a new game, hopefully with a in-depth single player campaign like the original.

So, what do you think are the chances that Soul Calibur 6 will be announced during tomorrow's Bandai Namco panel, that is also reported to have some news about Soul Calibur and it's 20th anniversary this year? Soul Calibur's official Twitter and Facebook sites have been hinting at something bigger for a few months already and in recent days have become suspiciously more active.
I don't really want to get my hopes up to be disappointed...but it is imo high time for a new part of the series, it is it's 20th anniversary after all and it's in-house rival Tekken 7 is already out for a while in arcades and had it's time to shine on E3 and Evo.

Well...

Here was my take on early speculation.

Just Guard basically takes over the same space that GI used to. It guarantees damage for a successful parry (for most attacks the faster ones are still safe).

Guard impact in V basically guarantees a CE without having to decide high or low so given it's increased danger, I can understand requiring meter.

I still want the devil gene to be revealed as a next gen nightmare that reforms itself during a tekken game

so like obviously Zasalamel would stop being "Raven" and grab his scythe and shit

LOL no, Namco is too focused on Tekken 7 right now not to mention T X SF is still in development hell

Yes, Namco is so focused on T7 and absolutely nothing else that they went out of their way to plan a SDCC panel for SC. The hyperbole.

Smart money says T x SF is just gonna be a DLC expansion to T7 with like 5-6 characters at this point. Namco isn't dumb enough to jump off a bridge just because Capcom did. May as well just build on what they already have, Especially considering how well Akuma has been recieved in T7. Do some more characters, sell it all for $30 and be done with it.

I'm waaaaaay overhyped for the big pile of nothing we are going to get, but can stop thinking that they have to have something to justify announcing the panel.

Well, the soul still burns I suppose.

Except just guarding was far more difficult and required more strict timing and only gave you the kind of retaliation you'd get from a GI on certain moves. You still had to guess between mid/low, unlike most versions of guard impact.

I don't care for just guard, either, though. Don't think it added much.

I can imagine they'll announce something like Soul Calibur outfits for Tekken characters. I don't think they'll announce a new game now and at Comic Con instead of EVO or even E3.

Anyone know if the panel will be streamed? I tried Google but didn't find anything.

Came to ask the exact same thing. ;) Does anybody know?

As I said before, I don't get why it would seem more sensible to you guys, to announce a new Soul Calibur on E3 or EVO, when E3 was there to promote Tekken 7's console and PC versions and EVO was there to promote the just recent opdate to Fated Retribution.
Tekken 7 needed to be the center of attention there.
Also Soul Calibur 2HD was announced on Comic Con 2013, so it isn't as if they never skipped E3 and EVO for Comic Con before.

At this point it's just Tekken and DOA left, right? And with no news on a DOA6, it's basically just Tekken. Wow that's really sad. :(

Yeah pretty much. I'm not desperate enough yet to play DOA seriously but who knows what will happen.

SC3 was a terrible trainwreck of a game and killed all of my interest and enthusiasm for the series despite loving the first 3 games.

We still have Tekken and DOA and VF if Sega ever goes back to it.

This is the thing, I don't feel Namco has what it takes to make a good SC game anymore and having another crap 3D fighter on the market, particularly one with such a strong pedigree (In the past at least) helps no one.

Also watching the lifeless corpse of the series dragged around Weekend at Bernie's style is something I'd rather not see again. I genuinely loved this series at a point.

That's nice but I would just like to see something in the 3D fighter scene. Even Namco's sh*ttest Soul Calibur game is better than nothing.

The scale of an announcement like SC2 port compared to a brand new SC6 announcement are stratospheres apart. And most of all, this is a combined panel for both Tekken and Soul Calibur. Tekken 7 will be at the forefront with its release in around 7-8 months. Soul Calibur is included to talk about its incoming 20th anniversary.

A Soul Calibur 6 announcement will not be sidelined after a Tekken panel discussion. It will be its own big thing whenever Namco deems it appropriate to reveal. And I also hope it is revealed after Tekken 7 is released so it can get the complete limelight it deserves.

Yeah if there is a Soul Calibur coming out I feel it's not going to surface until Tekken has had its time to shine.

At most, I expect a "SC6 is coming, please be excited" type of thing. Maybe another remaster/side game announcement if they wanted to be extra nice. But since Pokken is still getting updated and supported, I imagine a good portion of Project Soul is still busy with that.

Of course, if they really wanted to defy expectations and announce something more substantial now, be my guest. Even more so if it's something out of left field, like a dreammatch Star Wars fighting game using SC5's engine.

I haven't seen any news on it. There'd be some details out by now if they had something significant to show or announce like they've done in years past.

It makes sense to announce a new game where it's going to get the most attention. Plus SC2HD was a small announcement after the Tekken panel that year, and there hasn't been anything SC related since then. If they had something significant to announce, they'd stream it or put some news out at least.

I'm not desperate enough yet to play DOA seriously but who knows what will happen.

DOA5, especially it's definitive version DOA5 Last Round on PS4/Xbone is a great fighting game! You are missing out big time (if you avoid it due to prejudices?).

Yeah pretty much. I'm not desperate enough yet to play DOA seriously but who knows what will happen.

DOA is a legitimately good fighting game series, though. Last Round is a lot of fun, and DOA Ultimate is one of the best games on the original Xbox. It's a shame that its presentation convinces people not to take it seriously when it actually does a great job of taking Virtua Fighter's core mechanics and speeding them up with a more newbie-friendly combo system and a heavy focus on countering.

You can't compare Tekken and SC any more.

Soul Calibur has been second-string for years now. As far as arcade players are concerned, the series ended years ago...SCIII was the most recent release, and that was even a port of the home version, which came out first!

Set your expectations low. This way, if they surprise us, great, if not, at least you expected it =\

Did they announce it today? Did they reveal Bayonetta as a guest character?
Panel is still 3 hours away. Can't wait for them to say "yeah, remember Soul Calibur being a thing? Oh, we'll definitely do something with it sometime" and then watch it quietly go the way of Tekken x Street Fighter.

The announcement will be Ivy in DOA5: Last Round

Didn't SCV sell nearly as much as TTT2?

Why do people think this series isn't very popular?

While Tekken Tag 2's console sales didn't perform well, it had an arcade release. If I'm not mistaken, they've been quoted as saying that half, if not most, of their overall revenue from the games comes from the arcades. They pretty much doubled down on this method for Tekken 7. They are really squeezing blood out of a stone with this one, but if the revenue is there, and that market isn't being served by anyone else, then they're gonna do it.

I wonder why they don't make SC for arcades anymore

You have my sympathy Soul Calibur fans, but your time will come.

You have my condolences Virtua Fighter fans. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you will find it easy to move on.
