A former "friend" of mine used to own this giant orange box with joysticks (IIRC) slapped on it. On the top was a long list of games. I recall them being very Atari-esque. It was like a 1980s version of those 10-in-1 gamepads you can buy from shifty booths in the mall. Anyone know what I'm talking about? That was the height of elegant design. Totally.

When I was planning to get my Japanese PS2, I considered the Sakura one, because I love pink technology. But then I saw it in person... man. Beautiful. The shiny pink that they used made me hard, and for god's sake

I ended up getting the Silver one, which was by far a worse choice.

I don't like where they are going. I have to admit, the Revo looks mighty nice. Most Nintendo consoles (Except original NES) have had problems. Black/platinum cube wasn't bad sans the handle and the white plastic section with the controller ports

I loved the genesis look and saturn's alright. Dreamcast not so much. 360 a great yes!

that's why it was so damn hott --- none of this "trying too hard" bullshit, just a solid professional machine...

It might just be me and my jaded industrial design background, from way back in college .... but the only thing those fuckers could draw was bubbles and "organic" swooshy crap (and the more affordable professional IDers too) ...
They'd just try so damn hard to make a 'purdy drawin' that they'd miss the entire functionality of the product in the first place.... thus, simply rendering a toy.

Not exactly a pure console, but I've always loved it's simplicity:

For pure console, I really like the PS3 in the vertical position. It seems the designers created the look in assumption that most would have it standing. The silver color doesn't do the system any favors though; white and black are much, much better looking.

No, see, I wanted to love the pink PS2. But it's UGLY. The shiny pink they used looks so damn cheap, and again, clashes horribly with the blue accents.

I'd love nothing more than to have a pink PS2, and I would, if there was one worth owning.

I own one, and it's not. The white Saturn is by far the best looking Saturn, but the console is still way too big, and awkward in design (the CD lid, the accent lines, etc.). Dreamcast was everything the Saturn wanted to be, but wasn't.

I find the XBOX far more offensive from a design standpoint due to its size, weight and ugly coloring.

which xbox are you reffering to? i personally find the 360 super offensive from a design point of view for simply not doing ANYTHING. it's whole conception is to please as many people as possible, and to me (again, as a designer) is completely offensive cause you're not taking a stand whatsoever. you're not attempting to do anything; the 360 is simply "there" and that's all.

granted, the original xbox is a big hulking piece of shit, but hey! at least it can be remembered for being SOMETHING (even if it is for "heaviest system ever")

the ps2, i remember when i first saw it, i thought it was crap. especially in the late 90's when sony's vaio unit was pumping out such exceptional pc designs (the ps2 itself of the vaio design lineage). i was extremely let-down. but with the introduction of the slim ps2, i can say it's the most gorgeous system since the dreamcast. i think i continue to favor the slim ps2 to the psp, although i'm not so sure that's a fair matchup.

now the ps3...when i saw it revealed at e3 i thought it was a joke. i thought someone here on gaf photoshoped it up. a year later, i still hate it, and kindof feel sad i'll have to look at it for the next 7 years while i play games.

THAT SAID, revolution is the slickest looking "next gen" system in my opinion. but it's not really up against any stiff competition, imho.
