Will you install computer chips in your brain, Deus Ex style?

Fuck yeah. I want to be able to learn martial arts like Neo did in the Matrix. Fuck paying $125/month for BJJ classes. Give me black belt level knowledge now.

Anyone who actually played Deus Ex would say no.

That said. Fuck no
I have, and totally want it.

I have terrible eyesight that is getting worse though...

I would get my eyes augmented so I can have screens simulated where ever I go, then hook that up to a portable pocket computer or something.

Before implanted computing though we will get wearable computing. Valve and Google have us covered.

Considering I'm all for technological advancement and the betterment of mankind, yes.

Hell, as an engineering student the progress of human augmentation is one of the things I want to be part of in the future.

Look at my avatar
and realize It is impossible for me to become better looking

In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind a BCI that made me think at an increased rate. However, I don't think I'd want bionic legs to counter act my cerebral palsy, which puts me in a wheelchair. I'd feel like it would bring a good amount of shallow people into my life.

I don't know, I think an entirely adequate means of refining or deepening human experience is provided by meditation, and most augmentations that I can think of are pretty frivolous and insubstantial in terms of the happiness that they're likely to provide us in the larger scheme.

But meditation is hard, so I guess if there was something to provide the same effect while diminishing the requisite effort? But generally... mantis shrimp eyes and eidetic memory, etc, would be neat, but it's not going to solve any existential problems or make me a kinder or wiser individual. And I think that these are the crucial issues posed by human life, and there's already so much 'stuff' out there to distract me from this that I'm not really sure what I would gain from having yet more still, so from my perspective it's tangential to living a fulfilled life or not, and a negative if it becomes an obsession or source of craving.

Like someone said earlier, everyone who has played Human Revolution, should say no.

It might look and sound a good idea at first, but all the possibilities what comes with it, I would say no for everyone.

No, only Nanomachines injected into the bloodstream.

What do you think about this:

?

It's pretty interesting that we can augment our bodies and our brains to detect new sensory information, and new ways to perceive sensory information.

It makes you wonder what galaxies of creative possibilities and associations could exist if we simply tweak the way that we perceive the world a little.

Yes. An ALU or general purpose CPU that I can assign random requests to and fetch the results some time in the future.

I'll wait for the chip companies to iron out the bugs though.

As long as there isnt a way to have an outside force hack it and then potentially kill/hurt me, im cool with it.

If its creator someday turn crazy and force those chips to turn people into into some kind of zombies with the press of a button... no thanks.

Hell yeah.

For those who say yes,why?

The pursuit of science and technology throughout human history allows us to take great leaps in advancement, as a species, that evolution by itself is not fast enough to accomplish.

Someone from 300 years ago would be terrified of flying, putting contacts in his eyes, getting surgical procedures done, or augmenting his health with any of the many safe treatments we have today, etc. We, as modern people, know these things to be tested and safe.

No reason to think that future tech would be any different.

Hell yes, I'd be augmented like crazy.

Some augs for my vision, some augs for my respitory system (asthma sucks), and whatever else needed to "improve" me.

Hell yes. Augmented reality HUD with GPS while I'm driving. You know the arrows you see directing you where to go in Saints Row 3/Just Cause 2 when you set a waypoint? Yeah, I'd like those in real life. Never get lost again. In addition to that, I would like the ability to comprehend every language as well. That's about all I'd get done.

Just tell me where to sign! I want the whole she-bang-a-bang; brain, eyes -- hell, my entire body!

Let me do any calculation in mere seconds. Let me see in Infrared, Ultra-Violet, etc. Let me run without tiring!

I hate the human body; such a weak, frail, little meat-sack. Though, I'd only want the body stuff done if all touch sensations were exactly the same as before... would be too weird otherwise.
