I'm not being facetious when I say that it's impressive that every division of Microsoft seems to be world-class at taking astonishing levels of resources and weaponizing them to destroy happiness.
ReviOS has made Windows feel the least invasive and in the background since 7.You are naive if you think you can stop this by settings. Turn all the privacy invasive stuff off and then use wireshark to see if it stopped phoning HQ.
Just use something like Manjaro. No significant difference.I wonder if the Steam OS desktop can someday replace Windows completely.
it's always going to phone home for random shit like activation and updates, not sure what you're saying. we're talking about potentially being able to turn off this conceptual screenshot-everything feature. if you're saying that this feature would be some kind of thing hidden and not able to be turned off by the user, after they announced it publicly you're the naive one, trust me i'm sure windows is already backdoored in some way, but they wouldn't just come out and say it like they did here. You are naive if you think you can stop this by settings. Most likely yes and it’s pretty fucking terrible. Already between Teams, Viva, CoPilot and bunch of other crap you can get an idea of what the heck people are doing if not minute to minute then at least on a fairly regular intervals.I do wonder if one of the selling points of all this is for Microsoft to be able to sell this in to corporates. Basically monitoring all "Copilot+ PC" workstations, and able to query the AI to give them a summary of what the employees are doing all day, who is the most productive, who is messing around etc.
You were talking about turning surveillance off using sliders. This sliders don't make it some private haven, it's just a false sense of privacy.it's always going to phone home for random shit like activation and updates, not sure what you're saying. we're talking about potentially being able to turn off this conceptual screenshot-everything feature. if you're saying that this feature would be some kind of thing hidden and not able to be turned off by the user, after they announced it publicly you're the naive one, trust me i'm sure windows is already backdoored in some way, but they wouldn't just come out and say it like they did here.
Yeahhhhh, Apple will just monitor all your bodily functions with its watch or iPhone and harvest that data.KEY WORDS: "WINDOWS PC".
If this happens, I'll be looking at Apple computers (Mac OS) or Linux based computers. What MS is proposing is entirely unacceptable and is nothing but
another way to chip away at our freedoms and rights.

Apple is not the saviour either. Better look at Linux.
emulation isnt ideal, native linux support for gaming is.
Remember, when the cops knock on your door she's really a 10,0000 year old dragon.
Joke's on them, even the AI is going to have nightmares after witnessing the very disturbing porn I watch on a daily basis.
Joke as much as you want, these technologies ultimate goal is using them for political purposes, so I expect many people to be pursued just because they show some trends in their devices usage, even if they're not doing anything wrong. Can i get in trouble with the law if microsoft discover my stash of emma watson deep fake porns or what?
It would explain why Windows runs like shit and is constantly using bandwidth.
you're taking about two different things. this thread is about this specific feature that doesn't even exist yet, not windows security in general. it doesn't matter how much you generalize how "sliders" work, while it's true that disabling things using the "settings" app isn't the most reliable way (personally i disable services and registry keys), it's irrelevant to this thread. You were talking about turning surveillance off using sliders. This sliders don't make it some private haven, it's just a false sense of privacy.

Soooo, Beastiality Necrophilia in a Furry Suit?
I wonder if the Steam OS desktop can someday replace Windows completely.
Microsoft is bigger than the EU, they will just pull out.Lol...EU lawsuit incoming in 3,2..1
Done locally, only works on Edge.

Even if its true, no way it stays just that way for long.
We can only hope, they go after way smaller transgressions.
I don’t see the issue if this is saved locally. If server side then, oh boy.
Q. So… where is the security here?
A. They have tried to do a bunch of things but none of it actually works properly in the real world due to gaps you can drive a plane through.
Accessing another user's Recall data from another admin account on the same PC. This UAC prompt is the only thing keeping me out, and it's easily dismissed. Once I access the folder, I can see every single screenshot plus the SQLite database with all the OCR data in it.

Recall: Stealing everything you’ve ever typed or viewed on your own Windows PC is now possible.
Photographic memory comes to Windows, and is the biggest security setback in a decade.doublepulsar.com
I recommend reading the entire article but the key take away is:
Supporting Kevin Beaumont’s claims, Arstechnica have done their own testing:

Windows Recall demands an extraordinary level of trust that Microsoft hasn’t earned
Op-ed: The risks to Recall are way too high for security to be secondary.arstechnica.com
I still use it for gaming, Mac for everything else. Might be moving my gaming PC to Linux sooner than expected.Glad to be out of the Windows space.

Chinese or Saudi would be okay too, just not American.Oh they will, not because of the privacy issues as the EU is a control freakery institution that doesn't really care about privacy but they hate big American technology sector companies and this will be too good an opportunity to miss going after one, again.
..and this is Microsoft waving a big sign at the EU saying 'come and have a go if you think you're hard enough'
If this sort of information is going to be collected, only a European controlled company should do it!
Yeah, Mint is pretty cool and Debian is fairly well supported as well in general. For a tech savvy person it’s definitely a good move, IMO.I'm using Linux Mint on my main PC. Gaming PC is still Windows. Linux Mint is pretty awesome, I have to say.
Where to disable son or s bitch?Thankfully you can disable it for now, but if they make something like this compulsory then goodbye Windows.
It is not released yet but Microsoft has created a guide already:Where to disable son or s bitch?
