Witcher 3 next gen update coming dec 14

The
It has to be more than just better resolution/fps, they hyped it up too much and if it isnt atleast new assets then they will rightly be criticized imo
They won't be doing next gen assets for a free patch for a years old game.
They will enable some PC settings for console and give PC some new and easily implemented tech like DLSS etc.

Like I said before, there's more to it than resolution/fps boost. :)

I'm assuming the "Netflix Witcher-themed additional content" will be armor/weapons/skins - which is not bad, but I wouldn't expect much more from it.

I wonder what the investment vs. revenue expectation ratio for this is. The Netflix series apparently caused quite a boost in Steam sales (or at least player count), but I'd imagine by now everyone who would have wanted to play this already have. But what do I know, maybe there will be lots of new sales. Anyway credit where credit is due, always great to have a free upgrade.

Should the Cavill face model DLC still come with it? Since Cavill is dropping his Witcher character after season 3 because Wokeflix is literally ruining The Witcher lore

Isn't that dude that did the HD project mod involved with this?
Yes, he is. So expect better textures, at least.

Cool that they are also updating old gen versions.

I noticed that they mentioned "integrated mods". Maybe we will have mods such as "no breakable weapons"? 'cause I swear to God, its already one of my favorite games, but being able to play without having to care about weapons breaking would be godlike

I am there on December 14th, on Death March. However... that netflix witcher content can fuck off. I don't want anything to do with that, especially after I read how the creatives on the show don't even like or respect the source material.
They can fuck off with that fanfiction show.

You can mod the PC version right now to look pretty darn good right now. At the risk of sounding greedy for a free update I was hoping the Netflix stuff would add new side-quests or monster contracts.

It's ridiculous to think a graphics update shouldn't take multiple years?

It's a free update. I'm sure they have been rightfully prioritizing getting Cyberpunk right, working on the Cyberpunk expansion, and putting resources into pre-production of future games. I'm sure the issues with Cyberpunk alone delayed the free update by a year+.

A free update is nice but they obviously aren't making it a priority as far as staff and resources go.

Netflix inspired content = now you can choose to be a cuck and watch Yennifer get railed by one of those dwarf gangsters in the brothel.

Since the next gen upgrade is free I am not expecting much. I wonder why it took them so long.

IMO, some of the things that delayed the patch:

New content:
There's supposed to be new missions/content from the Netflix Witcher series in this update for the game. So that would take some time I'm sure.

Performance:
Building in raytracing might have been harder to implement because let's face it, the OG game tanks framerates in certain areas. Now add raytracing to those
areas and it's a potential slide show. DLSS has been incorporated as well. Also, Halk Hogan's hugely popular HD texture mod is apparently going to be used as CD Project Red
reached out to him. So you have a collab between modder/studio and obviously that could be slower than average to implement.

Cyberpunk 2077:
With pretty much the entire studio working on Cyber on various patches, content, etc the next gen patch took a back seat until most of the studio was freed up.

Not picking on anyone here, but I like when people say "Glad I waited to play. Good thing I kept in my 'backlog'".

All I can think is "Uh, wouldn't it be better to have $40 in your 'backlog' right now?"

I already dumped almost 300 hours into TW3 so I doubt I'll run through it again but I'm curious to see if this will look as good as a heavily modded Witcher 3. The mods have been free since 2015 and they fix a lot more than just the visuals.
Everything from inventory fixes to improved combat have been modded into the game. Hopefully the update doesn't break too many mods (it will)

I got this on Xbox back in 2019 (black friday sale, I think) - and was told almost immediately afterwards that it was going to get a next-gen patch when the new systems released. So, I decided to wait.

Might finally play this, everyone says it's wonderful.

Never played it, but bought it super cheap cause they announced an update. Looking forward to play what many still thinks is the greatest game ever made.

Considering it took them fucking two and a half years to get this thing out, this update should be substantial. On xbox series x, the game already runs at a flawless 4k 60 fps

I think we should keep our expectations in check and be realistic. It's just a free patch for a 7 year old game, not a remake. Besides, CDPR has been through hell launching and fixing their latest game, so I'm not sure they could afford to put too much resources into this patch.

I expect higher rez, better frame rate, improved textures, better LOD... and maybe some cool new features like FSR 2.1 and ray traced global illimunation, but it's not goint to be a whole new game built up from the ground, just a more refined one. If we want to see a big leap I'm afraid we'll have to wait for The Witcher 4.

But to be honest the game is amazing as it is, so any improvement will be more than welcome.

It would be amazing if there's something gameplay-related added (new modes, quests, gear, etc...). Maybe I'll do a death march play through during the Christmas break.

Despite xbox having a 4k mode, i still reckon both consoles will have FSR 2.1 and push visuals similar to cyberpunk.
Both modes, 30 & 60.

Wow, what's wrong with a Witcher of color just for once? Everything isn't about you fascist.

Personally I'm not interested in this patch unless they make some serious upgrades, like adding a wheelchair-bound protagonist. The game can have all sorts of mythical monsters but not a single motorized wheelchair because that's not "realistic?" Way to pick and choose, ableists.

That's because for the last 2 1/2 years CDRP had to fix Cyberpunk 2077 (a game that should have never been released at the time). Looking forward to see what improvements will be made for The Witcher 3 PS5 version.

Holey shiet, man. I'm taking some time off for Christmas, but between Crisis Core, Callisto Protocol, Midnight Suns, and the new Need For Speed, I was already concerned if I'm gonna have enough time to play all these games.

And now this? I must be dreaming.

I hope one of the mods included will be Immersive Cam which lets me customize camera to great extent, and the possibility to hide minimap and only show it (and quest info) when using witcher sense. I used these on my second playthrough and do not want to play without them.

Finally!

It's been a while since my playthrough so it's going to feel pretty fresh.

Too bad my save game got fucked up somehow so I can't do NG+ from my end game save.

DLSS or at least DLAA is important to me. The game doesn't do a good job with AA as it is. RT Shadows and AO is also nice. Being a medieval game, reflections aren't that big a deal. RTGI would look amazing on that game.
