Witcher 3 next gen update coming dec 14

I can't tell the difference between the way ray tracing & standard looks on my XSX, but I do notice the performance increase on performance mode so I've stuck with that. Honestly though, the game looks and feels exactly as I remember it on my base XB1 in my mind's eye, and only side by side shots and videos dispel that, neither of which I actually see in game.

I'm glad the patch exists for those who can properly appreciate it, but honestly the only difference I actually notice so far in-game is the quick-casting menu.

Whats the effect called when the corners of the screen are dimmed? Well this version has that at night and it looks awful. It HAS to be an oversight from the devs.
Fairly sure you can turn that off in the post processing menu, along with sharpening and a load of other options which also look bad.

The difference is quite large in indirectly lit places, but unfortunately RT murders CPU performance. Even my 5800X3D is not capable of 100% stable 60fps in Novigrad with RT enabled, even if everything else is at lowest and in 720p. Cyberpunk with RT is actually less demanding that Witcher with RT.

Open these two screenshots in tabs and switch between them:

RT OFF

RTGI and RT reflections enabled, RTAO and RT Shadows disabled:

It's weird how we are getting multiple reports of the framerate being so poor on PS5 and Series X when using RT mode, but when you watch the comparison videos on youtube running on the consoles the framerate appears to be fine and nobody mentions it ever being a problem

probably because of the jarring transition from 60fps to 30 when switching between modes.
it always feels horrible until your brain adjusts.

Why does the water look so much worse in RT mode than in Performance mode?

Yeah, they changed water shading and it looks worse in quality mode.

Check out ing video, game runs 20 something fps in cities in RT mode:

This also confirms that performance on PS5 is better in CPU taxing areas.

Nope, it is not that, the game stutters like mad in 30 fps mode.

It does it randomly though, same zone stuttering you turn the gamers again and it is fine, something wrong there.

Still trying to decide between performance and RT. I can live with 30fps in this kind of game, but I'd want it to be rock solid. I'm scared to go to Novigrad.

The Cerny masterclass.

I think most differences between XSX and PS5 games are down to Api they use, maybe PS5 allows to use CPU more efficient than DX12 on Xbox?

And this goes both ways I think.

It runs like shit in cities in RT mode, I will go performance.

As per that video PS5 also has reduced lods in the distance

I've run into quite a few bizarre visual glitches so far.

Cobwebs turning neon purple, Ray tracing flickering in and out in squared sections etc. This is on Series X.

It feels like they made combat easier on the default setting.

I am on PS5, performance mode, and I have seen a few bits of hitching - just like the PC version back in the day prior to a few updates. It's really minor and only occurred several times, but it's there.

Overall I am impressed. It looks damn good, almost like a new next gen game released this year. The use of DualSense haptics is pretty good. I bet the PC version would look fantastic on my RTX 3080, will need to give that a look later.

Incredible update if you played it on PS4 before. The fidelity increase is crazy. It almost feels like a new game to me. I´m going to enjoy this

JFC this game is gorgeous

Too bad 60 rock stable ain't possible on today's hardware (with RT enabled)

Overall I think this proves it's a good thing CDPR ditched their own REDengine and moved to Unreal Engine for their upcoming games.

Witcher 3 was a technical nightmare at launch and them still not getting it right seven years later is kinda gnarly. But then again it's a free update so I'm not splitting hairs that the game doesn't suddenly run flawless.

What a bummer, it runs like horseshit on pc

It really doesn't. People just want to yolo and crank all the settings even though they clearly said certain settings are there with future hardware in mind.

I'm pretty sure console equivalent settings will run very well for most people.

Something is definetly up with the 30fps mode on PS5. It transforms the game visually, even on outside areas (go in a overcast forest and see what I mean) but it feels nearly impossible to play.

And it's not just because of the transition from 60 fps. I played Callisto at 30 just after it last night and it felt a looooot smoother despite being at the same framerate.

I really hope they manage to implement a stable and consistent 30fps mode, because man it's borderline next gen looking with RT on

Is this for the old wild hunt edition as well or only the complete one? Ps store say Witcher complete edition (ps5/ps4)
I have the wild hunt (ps4) ….sad

Performance is abysmal on Series X, I don't know if it is bad fame pacing, dynamic resolution not kicking in time , frame drops or a mixture of the 3.
It really feels like a frame pacing issue more than anything else, at least on RT mode on ps5.

While the rt lighting is nice, its less transformative than i imagined which is actually not a bad thing as im pleasantly surprised by how improved the performance mode seems. I'd imagine performance is basically similar to the pc's ultra?

Also, does the consoles rt have global illumination or just rt shadows?

Going to be honest, I much prefer performance mode, it seems to be sharper to my eyes, since the RT one has some sort of "artistic blur" and it generally don't feel good play at 30FPS. On my PC tho, oh boy it looks incredible. I am still on peasant RTX3080OG, while waiting on 4090FE/MSI Suprim X, to be available in my country.

I searched for complete edition on my PS5. I then chose "view product" and it was free to purchase. From there I select the download option, and chose the PS5 version.

I honestly don't even recall ever buying it on PS4, as I played it on PC. So maybe it was free because I have PS+ Premium.

I really wish Sony would streamline things on their store.

Yeah it worked . I search for complete (29 us) I click "own another edition" , down there was "free upgrade to ps5".

Thanks

Glad I was able to help. Anything to prevent someone from actually spending money on this then dealing with Sony support.

Edit: I just tried the RT mode on PS5 and this cannot be working as intended. It's seriously like 15 fps and barely looks better. Seems to add a little fog and particle effects and not much else. Woof.

Edit 2: I forgot how good this game was, how well they adapted some of the books material.

So I'm guessing I can't transfer my save file from the PS4 version? I don't have the GOTY edition on PlayStation, but the day one regular disc version. The game looks beautiful by the way.

I think if you download the ps4 version, update it to the latest version, then load your save, save your game, quit, then open the ps5 version it may work. It's definitely worth a try. I get the feeling the people with the save issues are because their save is from a patch that's years old from when the game first came out

Can't install the ps5 native. Installed the disc version launch and the last update with both dlc and nothing. Tried to add or purcharse via app and it still ask me $30 to purchase it.

my PC (9900k, 32gb ram, rtx 2080) is getting 35-40fps with RTX on and everything on Ultra+ (no hairworks) but with DLSS on Performance and at 1440p.

i had DLSS at Ultra Performance or whatever the lowest setting is but the game looked awful with it. i'll probably turn RTX off and see how that helps. if i need to play it at 60fps that's fine but i hope i can get up to 90-120fps.

my cpu doesn't go over 55-60C. GPU also doesn't go above 70C but the fans are loud. RAM usage is about 13GB and VRAM is 7.7GB.

I want to enable RT but my RTX 2060 can't handle that, that bums me out. Maybe they should add low settings for RT.
see above. my 2080 is getting 35-40fps with RTX on and DLSS on at 1440p. game hits hard but i don't think it's worth it. i'll turn it off.

Ray tracing is really transformative...
even if I have to put up with the 30 fps borderline mode.
How can people say they cannot see the difference ? Every shadowed area looks next gen in comparison to non RT mode. + it really sells the medieval feeling with really dark looking interiors in comparison to the bright exteriors.

I think I will finish the game (I'm in the Blood and Wine expansion) and finish up a ton of ??? and side quests on my XSX. I have over 200 hours in that. But I also bought the complete edition on the Steam Deck a few weeks ago. Got done downloading that yesterday and then the update last night. I will start a new game on that.

Hmm, maybe i should turn off RT also. Bummer.

Not worth it if you have to play in 30fps
