NASHVILLE, Tenn. —
A Nashville woman is accused of shooting a homeless man who asked her to move her Porsche SUV.

Katie Quackenbush, 26, is charged with attempted murder, according to The Tennessean.

According to the Metro Nashville Police, Quackenbush critically wounded 54-year-old Gerald Melton on Aug. 26. He remains in the hospital.

Police say Melton was trying to sleep on a sidewalk around 3 a.m. when the exhaust fumes and loud music from Quackenbush's SUV disturbed him.

When he asked the young woman to move the vehicle, an argument ensued and Quackenbush got out of the SUV with a weapon.

Police say she shot the man twice and fled the scene.

Jesse Quackenbush, Katie's father, has a different account of what happened.

He told the Tennessean that his daughter and her friend were being accosted by Melton, claiming the man made explicit and sexist remarks toward the two. He also claimed Melton threatened to kill the women.

According to the father, Quackenbush then grabbed her gun and got out of her SUV to escort her friend to her vehicle.

Melton allegedly began walking toward the woman, Jesse said, when his daughter told him she had a gun and fired two warning shots.

He claims she had no idea Melton had been hit by the gunfire.

Quackenbush's bond was set at $25,000. She is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 6.

1: That's the worst Quackenbush I've ever met, and that takes a lot of effort
2: Who fires warning shots with their eyes closed

She sounds like a complete fucking psycho if the police's account is the one to go by.

I don't buy the father's story. You don't fire "warning shots" and accidentally hit someone, much less accidentally hit someone and then get away without knowing you shot them.

He was close enough to be threatening, but not so close that she could actually see any part of him or know she had shot him.

Rich people always get away, and this won't be any different. She will get a slap on the wrist especially when the dad will hire the best local lawyer for his daughter to try to discredit any evidence or claim that she aimed to shoot him.

I just assume this is what all Cayenne drivers are like. Hopefully she sees some serious jail time. My gut tells me probation...maybe less.

Father's story is "I don't want my kid to go to jail"

I can see it going either way, been accosted by plenty of homeless but also have seen some club-going women at 3am not thinking/doing the right thing too. Plus its the father spinning the story so...

And in many cases, claiming warning shots means you end up removing self defense as a possible defense.

If you have time to fire warning shots, you did not feel imminent danger with no other alternative that self defense requires

And are also illegal in many places.

So leave. The correct answer isn't "try and murder the homeless guy".

She sure warned the fuck out of him. Warned him right into critical condition. The truth may be in the middle somewhere but she was not intending to warn him.

Warning shots don't hit twice. Nice try.

I've had physical altercations...

Agreed. She was in a car, she should have driven away. It's 3am, shouldn't be out in the first place.

She was escorting her friend to her vehicle; I can understand why. The more I read, the more I think it's plausible she was legitimately concerned and fired out of fear.

She probably gets off. She has the money and a witness, odds are stacked against the homeless guy.

Yeah, why, if the father constructed the story, didn't they claim the the homeless guy was attacking her and she acted in self defense?

Go big or go home.

I won't post links, because it might not be the same person, but it looks like Quackenbush had a prior assault charge in 2013.

Closed eyes.

Fired shots..

He kept coming after she said she had a gun..

If he's minority. People will believe he had no fear of the gun, and was likely trying to pull off a full live public rape.

She could have killed additional people, firing a God damned gun with eyes closed. Yet, nothing is going to happen. She will walk. Homeless is already a low bar for justice.

It'll be interesting to see how this case of a rich white woman leaving her vehicle, and firing "warning shots" and nearly killing a man will compare to that black woman in Florida that fired a warning shot(s?) inside her home during a domestic dispute and got sentenced to 20 years.

[Yes, I realize that the circumstances are different but from vantage point of optics, that's the first parallel account that came to mind.]

That obnoxious "meh whatever..." face is the most aggravating thing for me. Hopefully she gets the book thrown at her, but sadly, I don't have high hopes that'll actually happen.
