Woman shot homeless man who asked her to move Porsche

Stumpokapow

listen to the mad man
Why precisely was her bond set at $25,000? Given that attempted murder gets you several years in jail and she drives a Porsche, how exactly is a $25,000 bond sufficient to ensure she is not a flight risk?

If you hit the person you are trying to warn, that isn't a warning shot. That is just a shot.

A great rule of thumb for any gun owner is "you own every bullet you shoot". There is never an instance where a gun owner should be firing a warning shot, because that is just straight up irresponsible.
First thing you every gun owner who carries should be taught is leave the situation.
Drawing a pistol should be the very last option when all other attempts to get out have failed.

edit:

He told the Tennessean that his daughter and her friend were being accosted by Melton
- NOT A REASON TO SHOOT A HUMAN
claiming the man made explicit and sexist remarks toward the two. He also claimed Melton threatened to kill the women.
- even if this is the case it is 2 vs 1. STILL NOT A REASON TO SHOOT A HUMAN

Yep. Psycho.

I mean she bought a Porsche there's just nothing left in the kitty to pay a bond

Even if her father's story is true, surely she should be charged with something right? Can you just shoot someone twice because they are walking to you?

Was her dad with them? Why is he credited for the counter story and not the actual defendant/friend?

I wasn't there either but what actually happened was that a nearby DOG had a gun and shot Melton but he thought it was the girl and she had a sandwich and not a gun

Legally? For civilians? Nope.

That would be illegal discharge of a firearm, to up to attempted murder.
Yeah I know that. I'm just trying to say there is such a thing as a warning shot. Just not for civilians, and definitely not when you're aiming at the person.

She's fucked.

It'll be interesting to see how this case of a rich white woman leaving her vehicle, and firing "warning shots" and nearly killing a man will compare to that black woman in Florida that fired a warning shot(s?) inside her home during a domestic dispute and got sentenced to 20 years.

[Yes, I realize that the circumstances are different but from vantage point of optics, that's the first parallel account that came to mind.]

This. First thing I thought of after reading the OP.

Damn, I'm surprised to see so many jumping on the woman. The "warning shots" is lawyer speak, but the rest of her story isn't completely implausible. I've seen homeless people do everything described in her story, and given the time the events occurred I completely understand why she felt the need to arm herself and escort her friend to her vehicle.

So in the South a warning shot is fired at the person?

If the warning shots are fired at a black person with death as the result, it's just an honest mistake, with a little big of finger wagging, and an "Aw shucks, those kids and their games!" If it's a black man firing warning shots in the opposite direction of the person, or even just saying the word "Bang! Warning shot!" It's attempted murder with the death penalty.

Sounds like a he said-she said case here. I hope an investigation can bring more evidence to light.
Shooting "warning shots" is already breaking a law.
Yeah, you are right about the warning shots. You never do warning shots. They are illegal everywhere. She probably has very little, if any, training, on not only the gun itself but also regarding self defense and law.

that rap video should be part of her character evaluation.

The father's account makes no sense at all. THe fact she fled the scene should make it harder for the money to release her.

She seems to have alot of it tho. I just hope this does not turn out like the brock rape thing, the convicted rapist getting 3 months probation.

You would shoot someone twice in the abdomen, drive from the scene, and not call the police?

If I was in charge of casting a smug looking douche bag this lady would make the list.

That's the biggest douche face I've seen in a while.

Uh, warning shots isn't weak.

It is straight up illegal.

The 'lawyer speak' is giving up a self-defense defense to admit to a crime. Not to mention the bodily harm.

Even the dad's version of fake events even clearly explains that there was no physical alteration. The homeless guy was just telling them to be quiet and she started shooting. 2 "warning shots" in the fucking abdomen. Shooting someone accurately is hard enough. Shooting a warning shot that hits the fucking abdomen twice? lol

She Is Originally From Texas & Has Twice Been Arrested There on Assault Charges

So she has a history of being a fucking violent asshole

I wonder why the dad's account sounds exactly like what a lawyer would tell you to say in oder to (try to) plead self defense ...

A competent lawyer wouldn't have said anything about warning shots, since they're illegal. If this is the defense of the legal team, they might have issues (haha yeah right, she's rich).

It might be less calculated to establish a self-defense defense (not that they won't try) than to try and avoid the attempted murder charge in favor of something lesser.

Edit - I agree, though, that I don't see why they would come right out and make this argument from the jump.

I wouldn't have escalated the situation at all; I'm just saying I can see how and why the events may have occurred how they did. Homeless people can be persistently aggressive, and are often mentally ill. Most are harmless, to be clear, but I can understand why a woman would feel threatened by a person who won't stop pursuing her at night.

I just don't think she shot the man simply because he asked her to move her Porsche. I don't think she should have shot the man. It feels like people are biased against her because she happens to be white and well-off, when normally, GAF tends to sympathize with the realities of being a woman.

She might be a douchebag, and she certainly comes from privilege; does that mean there is no plausible scenario where she can feel threatened and be driven to fire a weapon?

Totally.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Melton allegedly began walking toward the woman, Jesse said, when his daughter told him she had a gun and fired two warning shots.

He claims she had no idea Melton had been hit by the gunfire.

Where the fuck was she aiming for those warning shots ? Does she realize warning shots are usually fired in the AIR, not that it makes it any better.

Because she'll probably jump straight on YouTube and make a rap video confessing her guilt.
