I have never seen anyone take offence with a caffe latte before.Especially as it isn't watered down.

Now an americano is watered down and a worthless drinks.

is a latte just coffee with milk? always wanted to know

cause here thats not only super common, but its just called...coffee with milk >_>

I like lattes and flat whites. Cringe all you want OP!

Hate the word clutch though, heard it on a stream and can't get used to it.

Starbucks coffee sizes just seem silly to me.

I used to try, but now I don't even give a fuck and just say "small" coffee, or "large cappuccino" instead of whatever the flying fuck is on their menu as ordered sizes.

I went straight to where you are now on day one. I have no patience for bullshit.

it is espresso with milk. I guess they call it latte for marketing purposes.

espresso is different from regular drip coffee I guess. but I dont know the details.

"For marketing purposes"?

You don't know the details or coffee versus espresso, though? They have different names because those names connote different things.

Prepare to cringe, OP. People like more than black coffee.

Now that I think about it, any word ending in a "tay" sort of sound ends up sounding really stupid. Even if it's subdued, it comes off as immensely annoying.

Also applies to latin-language originating words ending in a vowel in general.

yes. for marketing purposes because latte is Italian but it is perfectly plausible to have an english substitute that is systematic and makes sense rather memorize 38 different names in a foreign language that people dont understand. latte is milk in italian, and god knows why you order milk espresso in an english speaking country by ordering milk in italian.

I am not arguing there are different varieties of coffee and they need different names, but they can have perfectly plausible english substitutes and yet they dont.

it is the same as starbucks calling their large cup venti, instead of calling it large. it sounds exotic.

You act like we never borrow foreign words to describe something. It just seems easier to call it what it's known as literally all around the world (I order lattes in Bangkok, for instance) than to make up a new word. THAT seems like it would be for marketing purposes. "Gimme a Freedom Coffee"

Starbucks cup sizes are bullshit, though. I think we're all in a "NeoGAF discusses porn" type of agreement there.

I am not arguing that prople borrow words from foreign languages. they already did, just look at your chart. I am saying they keep the foreign names to sound exotic, and I stand by that.

As for 'easier', ask anybody on the street if they know what cafe con hielo is. Then ask them if they understand iced espresso, or espresso on the rocks. That will tell you how 'easy' the current system is.

People on the internet being overly upset by the most mundane shit. Oh, someone ordered a latte. Big fucking deal! And I hate latte. The idea of being upset by someone liking something that you don't seems childish to me.

I'm no better though, as this is making ME angry. Why the fuck am I upset at OP? I don't know him/her. He/she could be a nice guy/gal.

I'm gonna go with the answer being somewhere in the middle, like it always is :)

TBF, he just said he "cringes," whatever that means.

But I agree - I'm too old to care about all this dumb shit that other people say or do that seems to get the greater internet upset. However, I do get upset about people complaining about it on GAF. It's a real conundrum.

I think we need a support group thread.

Lol, so we went to being irritated by people ordering latte's to latin languages. Well done.

And adopting words/terminology from other languages. Hint: a latte isn't just coffee with milk in it.

Who's ready to come up with a new word for "sushi?" Not European, but ends in a vowel anyways; let's get rid of it.
