Worst controller thread

LIST REASONS WHY, NO PICS WITHOUT LABELS, NO ONE WORD ANSWERS, I WISH I COULD BAN THOSE WHO DON'T DO THIS BUT I DON'T HAVE THAT POWER SO <--------- FOLLOW THESE RULES PLEASE
You certainly have a knack for this.

I liked the N64 controller. I dunno, just. never had a problem with it. I actually liked the trigger for Goldeneye and Turok, but it's hard to go back aiming with the left hand now.

Yeah, I'll echo someone else's mention of the Intellevision controller. I got one of those Intellevision Flashback thingies recently, and I just don't know what I'm doing most of the time and it sucks having to look what you're doing with your hands to do what you want. Atari had it right with the simple joystick+button(1) for the time.

ehhh zune wasnt good either

Zune was great, I still use a Zune HD today. Love the interface.
Store sucked, though...

I'd hardly call it useless. With plenty of buttons and options to put whatever functions you want where you want, it's down to you to get what you want out of it. I'd say it's probably better than a normal controller in most games, and it lets you do things another controller cannot. And unlike a m +kb, it's more comfortable to use on a couch.

most games require you to use the usual stick+buttons, and I find the buttons incredibly uncomfortable. You have to put your thumbs in a weird position and I don't like it at all. Oh yeah and the lack of a real d-pad kinda suck too

Why is this flimsy piece of crap cost $50?

What console was that for again? The enormous logo taking up most of the front doesn't make it very clear.

My vote goes to DS3. it's just uncomfortable in a way no other controller has ever felt to me.

I also had one of these horrible bastards back in the day:

I'm amazed how many people had problems with the Dreamcast controller. It was my favourite of that era, I don't think I've ever had cramps from it. The Dreamcast gun used to give me blisters though

The DS4 controller is totally fine. It feels good and controls well, but it has broken down on me faster than any other controller I've ever had.

N64 controller had its problems, but I never get why people say it was uncomfortable. I never had a problem holding it in any configuration (middle and right prongs, left and right prongs ... I never had a game that forced me to play left and middle prongs)

Dualshock 3 and 4. DS3 felt like it would snap in half at a moments notice and the DS4 has those awful stick grips and the obtrusive touch pad crowding out the guide and start/select buttons. Xbone controller before they fixed the bumpers is up there too, trying to play a souls game with those bumpers was a nightmare.
Don't get the hate for the Duke, thing was basically just a better Dreamcast controller.

I think the Dreamcast controller is the most baffling of all of them.

IMO, Sega perfected the d-pad with the Saturn (JPN/model 2) controller. Their analog controller (released at the same time as NiGHTs) was also pretty solid. All Sega had to do was make some tweaks and the Dreamcast controller would have been perfect.

Instead they regressed. The d-pad was worse, the # of face buttons dropped from 6 to 4, and the ergonomics were just alien by comparison.

I'll never understand the complaints about the Wii U gamepad being too big and heavy. Feels light as a feather and never makes my hands tired or uncomfortable from holding it for long durations. Oh well, opinions.

There's some solid argument to be made against it other than that... like the battery life. Let's talk about the gamepad's batte----

Yeah - N64 had some heinous 3rd party controllers.

Actually that super pad is better than you'd think. It has a metal stick that doesn't wear and every button is accessible without changing grips. The Dpad is also much more functional and comfy than tha stock one.

I mean, maybe I had trouble for the first few hours of having the controller, but I just had to find out where to put things to make it most comfortable for me. As for the D-pad thing, well, I usually just use a D-pad setup on the left pad for menu navigation and use the thumbstick for everything else; seems to work fine for what I've tried. For a functional D-pad to put stuff on, I usually put a touch menu or a D-pad under the right trackpad's mouse settings. I guess it's your opinion if you don't like how it feels, but functionality wise, I'd say it's quite good.

Never got around the RB, RT, LB, LT configuration, i just plain hate it. I know most people on GAF love it, but I just hate that big 2A-battery powered beast... And I have relatively big hands.

DualShock 4. Abysmal battery life. Crumbling analog sticks. Afterthought touchpad cheaply built and overpriced.

Sorry. DualShock 3 will always be the king. If they somehow made one of those with bumpers and gyros I'd be on board.

The Intellivision controller scarred me for life. So awkward to hold and unresponsive in every way from the shit-tier circular touch-pad to the useless side buttons. It doesn't help that the games are dated as all hell. God, I hate the Intellivision.

Just look at this poor bastard trying to play with this thing:

I still have that controller. Part of it broken and guarantee it's because I slammed it on the ground way back when.

Me and my brother had an official one (which was perfection in every way) and that one, because we were 10 years old and it was cheap.

Street Fighter 2 was a nightmare with that thing and I seemed to wind up having had to play with it more than 50% of the time.

The Dualshock lasted for 3 generations which was 2 generations too long.

Maybe if my thumbs were half as long it might actually be an ergonomic controller, but it's not and even with all the DS4s faults the improved grips make up for everything.

I have to disagree wholeheartedly about the N64 Controller. Having just used one at my friends house for the first time in about 10 years, going through DK64 100%, Jet Force Gemini and playing a bit of Chameleon Twist 2, with a bit of Perfect Dark, I genuinely have no complaints with it.

I really don't give a fuck if the controller looks bad, as long as it's comfortable and easy to use, and it was.

And as far as I know, this was his 64 Controller from when he was a kid. So it seems to me that as long as you don't treat it like a piece of turds it'll last fine. And yeah, he had Mario Party.

-shrug-

Edit: Also, it has less face buttons than the SNES Controller?

Snes: A, B, X, Y, S, Sel

N64: A, B, C-U, C-D, C-L, C-R, S.

???

Also, comparing a controller to something that came out *after* it's inception seems a little backwards to me. That's like saying a football team has always been a bad team yet they've won the World Cup in the last few years.

This ain't no small minority preference like DUALSHOCK haters dislike of symmetrical sticks(its not their fault them poor unsymmetrical souls ;) )...No no, This controller is actually a piece of shit.
Look at it! How do you press the left shoulder button now in that position?

Not sure if joking, but this IS GAF so I have to ask.
Kinda hard to tell.....Because It's true, double edged sword dat is.

Wii U Gamepad was a chore to use, it was too big, the button layout was meh and it increased the price of the darn Wii U. I mean a lot love it for Off-Play but that never had any appeal for me so I just ended up hating the darn thing.

you dont, thats why most games dont you it for much if it all

I honestly like the Wii U gamepad in terms of comfort and usability...

...I do however hate its insistence on wasting the battery life. Whether that's not having an option to keep the screen off while using the controller, or the fact you can't easily turn the whole pad off during gameplay. I understand for games that need it to work, but I don't need it on when I'm playing Smash Bros with the GC pad...

I have the extended battery and it's noticeably gotten worse over time, which I'm sure it wouldn't have if I could have mitigated that.

So there's a mostly-ignored button on the controller because the design prohibits reaching it when using the analog stick? That doesn't sound like excellent overall design.

I generally like Nintendo's controllers overall. The N64 is just one area where they got it all wrong. In recent years I've enjoyed N64 games much more on Virtual Console where I can use different controllers.

I'm being serious. The mouse I can understand. That's decent. But how is a keyboard a well-designed input device for gaming?

Well I guess it's not designed for gaming, but it turned out to be pretty good for it anyhow, given how entire genres that currently dominate and have dominated the market place were built around it, no?

Hmmm, actually using the Steam Controller HAS made me appreciate both a good gamepad (at least sans the horrible right analog stick) and the mouse, so I guess in that equation the keyboard really is on the bottom of my priority over mouse and gamepad buttons/triggers.

I can't recall any N64 games that required you to play with the analog stick and the L shoulder button. I would imagine the Z trigger acted as the L button when playing games with the stick.

The OG Xbox controller could be classed as a deadly weapon, and I'm pretty sure the N64 controller is some kind of alien artifact, there's no way that thing was meant for humans.

I'm not overly keen on the DS4 either although it's nowhere near terrible, tbf i think the shit build quality clouds my judgement a bit.

The keyboard is the most precise input device for some genre, like Fighting games. That's why they made those :

Oh look, someone who tried Counter-Strike on a friend's computer once and got their face wrecked.

I'll admit though, some games are pretty terrible with a keyboard and mouse.

Especially with a Phillips brand mouse and keyboard. He must be a fucking silver :lol

Worst controller is easily this shit that ruined an entire library of games.

as far as ones that i've used probably the wii u gamepad.

battery life is mediocre and the swapped a and b is obnoxious

Ironically it was Xbox that swapped A and B, so it's kinda just your experience with it.

SNES has B at the bottom and A at the right.

And SNES came out (Obviously) before any Xbox.
