Would you pay( annual fee) for dedicated servers on PSN?

If they started charging I would just stop playing online
Pretty much. I don't game online much anyway, so no way I'm going to pay for the privilege of using my own internet connection.

OldJadedGamer trying to justify overpriced xbox 360 HDD

First, thanks for stalking... it's nice to know I have fans. Second, no one is holding a gun to MS's head forcing them to copy Sony's over priced memory model either. The difference is that the same kind of folks that are complaining about MS's overpriced HDD prices where the same people who bought Sony's over priced memory cards and didn't/don't complain. You can't say one is ok and another is bad. That was my point. I heard zero complaints last gen about people paying for overpriced memory when systems like the Xbox had it included for free. I'm not justifying anything, just asking for some consistency in the bitching.

And anyone that has used a Microsoft operating system for the last decade knows that Microsoft as a company is a follower, they are not a leader. To imply that MS's matchmaking has infested PSN you are saying that Sony is no longer the leader and they are the follower and that Sony feels MS's system is better hence it needs to be copied. I don't feel that way since I feel Sony is on the right track with their online services so they should be leading... not following.

I just wish that they had the same kind of chat features like friends only chat and cross game party chat and that my actual real life friends used the service and no money in the world that I pay is going to change that so dedicated servers or not, if my friends aren't there it doesn't matter.

No, fuck you. I sold my Xbox 360 for a fucking reason. I don't need corporatist fannyfarts like you fucking things up even more for me or anyone else, thanks.

No, the difference is between ÂŁ/$20 for a PS2 memory card vs. ÂŁ/$100-odd for a 360 HDD. And how much do MS charge for their 360 memory cards? Yeah, go away, kid, ya bother me.

I'll second the "fuck matchmaking" notion. It's fine as an option, but I miss what I was able to do in SOCOM 2 about ten years ago.

I'd pay like, $20 a year for a more robust online experience. More universal features, etc.

no, because sony would be naturally inclined to either move a few things here and there that are currently free over to the new tier, or put too many "exclusive" this and that bullshit there too.

ie: like they have already been doing with qore. want to play a demo BEFORE the game is out? better have a qore ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION, otherwise wait until well after the game is out, and that's only if that specific dev puts the demo out for free in the first place. i know, it's not with all demos, but to me a new tier or all of this paying for new feature x stuff is concerned, it's sounding like qore isn't bringing in the cashflow as much as it was intended, and they are looking to reorganize their structure and what is/isn't free.

yes, we have little info and a lot of it is rumor/speculation, but i think a lot of us are used to the sony rumor pattern by now: rumor something slightly awesome, lot's of internet feedback, it is announced and is lackluster or badly implemented, or not what we really wanted.

Dedicated server costs are usually entirely covered by a small percentage of gamers. Basically, anyone who wants to run a server. Everybody's happy.

Hard to say. May be.

It depends on how Sony package the whole deal.

Some games are more fun when lag free. Some games are ok with a little lag.

If they add more features (bandwidth intensive ones) for server hosted games, then I'd be more open to shell out $$$

As for the actual billing, some may prefer usage-based instead of monthly.
