WSJ: Nintendo Earnings: What to Watch

Well that is pretty weird. With increasing digital only software I guess they also will start to include it.
I think it makes sense to change this now with Switch. Honestly I wouldn't mind a retroactive change either, it'd be interesting to see how much Virtual Console, WiiWare, DSiWare and eShop exclusives swelled the software figures the past two gens. Maybe still exclude f2p downloads though.

Up to now, Nintendo included digital versions of retail games in their shipments. Digital only titles have never been included.

Okay, that makes this claim of 20 million software units slightly more reasonable, though I think still fairly low. But that's a weird decision, I'm wondering if they'll change that for the Switch seeing as how they have far more digital only titles released so far than retail titles.

Well we have gotten revenue numbers for eshop and they have not been that impressive compared to competition. Of course some titles here and there possibly have done very well but generally Nintendo has been way behind other pubs when it comes to share of digital revenue of total SW revenue.

Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ended March 2017, Apr. 28, 2017

Nintendo's financial results briefings are usually held 10:00 AM JST the day after the earnings release. April 28, 2017, 10:00 AM JST converts to the above.

Just so people see the countdown

So to be clear, will we hear about some future plans at the news conference or financial results briefing?

Tonight Nintendo will release all their financial earnings. I think Kimishima may release a statement I can't remember, but tomorrow Nintendo will do their presentation and take Investors questions.

"The Company is one of the world's leading contents holders with many brands that are popular overseas including Resident Evil and Street Fighter, both of which have been made into Hollywood films."
The emphasis on that of all things amuses me so

Capcom is up

Dead Rising 4 and Monster Hunter Stories underperformed. Lol

Seems like nothing noteworthy was mentioned from a consumer perspective. They do emphasize their commitment to console-level video games, which is cool.

As someone who doesn't know much about Japanese work culture, this paragraph intrigued me:

Additionally, the Company has been promoting the establishment of a work-life balance through child-rearing support and other initiatives, empowering employees to pursue both their career and childrearing in order to secure and utilize superior talent. As a part of this endeavor, the Company opened onsite childcare facilities in April 2017.

My American sensibilities say this is a good thing.

Yes, Nintendo's news conference is at 4:00 PM JST. The countdown was simply for the close of the market (daily session, JPX). I didn't know when I posted the countdown the exact time of the news conference. Earnings release should be published momentarily.

Monster Hunter Stories was like the easiest Switch Launch port, for good business sense.

but noooo USFII with wicked ken

When Capcom first released some hd trailer and screenshots for MH Stories, I thought a Switch port was gonna happen for sure. Too bad that never happened. The art style looked well suited for a pretty simple port.

So was the game eventually downgraded or were those bullshots or what? Haven't played it.
I was really confident it was coming to Switch too

if only they had in-game art on that level. If cap com would just try I would really love that series but they keep holding it back

Hope MH5 is full HD at least 720P is a thing Nintendo gave them to work with now.

Monkey's paw: MH5 is on Switch...but 240p in portable and 360p docked. That perfect x9 upscale!
