WTF IS UP WITH NARUTO SHIPPUDEN?

Yep. Never got into it. I got most of the story from playing the games.

My rule of thumb if an Anime series is over 26 episodes....I'm probably not watching it. I grew up watching DBZ though. But never again. Dat filler.

Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho tho.

Googled both of them. Not a fan of the style. I have heard great things about Hunter X Hunter, so maybe I will give that a chance. How bad is the filler?

There is none but it's an overrated show. Read up a bit on whether it's something really up your alley before jumping in.

Especially if you don't like the artstyle and the chara designs the likelihood you'll like it lessens by quite a bit.

There isn't really any filler. The show covers the first like 5 major arcs of the manga, one of which is much larger than the rest, but the manga itself has no filler. The only filler I can think of was the OVA movie they made which isn't based on the manga but its a movie and not at all required to watch to get anything else in the anime.

It'll go on with canon until just before the final episode and then filler episodes of everyone dating, marrying, having kids, Kiba being a single loser, Shino getting his teaching accreditation, etc., etc.

Dude Yu Yu Hakusho is the shit and it's made by the same creator as Hunter X Hunter. Get the fuck on that shit. Style is fine, the show is just from the 90's. It is hands down a better shonen brawler show than DBZ.
a whole year of fillers... holy shit.

Fuck off Naruto.
I actually enjoyed Infinite Filleryomi and the Itachi filler is legit. I had finished the story in the manga any way so I honestly just don't care any more. Ending was some epic bullshit.

In my defense I was watching DBZ when I was 12. Watched some clips on Yu Yu Hakusho...was that on Toonami back in the day too?

Is it crazy for me to expect Naruto Brotherhood in the far future? I feel like with all the milking this franchise has going for, I think they will definitely reanimate a non-filler version of series.

Hunter x Hunter is pretty much a good version of Naruto. Naruto actually lifted entire concepts from Hunter x Hunter such as Kurapika's backstory being reused for Sasuke's backstory, the Spiders basically being the equivalent of the Akatsuki. Though instead of being more of a typical shonen series it's more of a deconstruction of the shonen series with a lot of it's themes. Yu Yu Hakusho is more traditional, but tries to do a bit of what ended up being perfected in Hunter x Hunter in the later half in the series but it's somewhat of an inconsistent mess in Yu Yu Hakusho (you'll see why when you get there).

Yu Yu Hakusho is basically Dragonball Z meets detective mystery meets school life meets the supernatural. Hunter x Hunter is like a compressed version of Naruto that turns traditional concepts upside down rather than adhering to them.

I remember when we got to the big tournament at the end of the Hunter Exam arc... haha not at all what I was expecting and despite being a bit annoyed at first, I'm glad Togashi threw that curve ball at us.

Wow, it only took 52 episodes of filler to get to it. How long are we expecting the arc to be based on manga? 26? 12?

There's theory floating around that Pierrot might want to end it or at least finish the storyline at episode 700. Which, given that canon starts at episode 679, wouldn't bode well for pacing and ya all should all be praying for more filler until we could get at least ~2 chapters per episode.

And how are you counting that? Last canon ep was 526 or so.

I really hope so. They should actually call it that as well for the lolz.

I was also surprised to see Ranma ½ actually managed to have a bearely higher filler %age than Naruto and do it in only 4 years.

I've recently watched the entire Ranma 1/2 anime for the first time, after previously only watching random episodes from the first two seasons and reading the manga. The filler is kind of infuriating. It seems like the filler writers had a set method of writing filler, and basically didn't budge from it, ignoring developments from the manga material in order to continue writing the same stories they've already written before.

Ranma doesn't use the Hiryu Shoten Ha in filler even once (unless you include the movies), and the ki blasts introduced in the beginning of the last season also are completely ignored afterwards. Even after the manga stories adapted by the anime introduced actual special techniques, the anime still insisted on featuring stories where the characters had to face stupid special attacks that turned out to be just tricks. It had a few neat moments, like giving Dr.Tofu an actual fighting style and battles in the last couple of seasons (and actually featuring him, considering how he completely disappears in the manga), but it was way too little considering the amount of filler episodes.

I only rough counted since it felt like it has been a year since the last non-filler episode. My bad. Doesn't seem like there's too much of the manga left for this arc. If they plan to do it up til 700, they should stick the fillers at the end to set up boruto.

They would totally do it too lol.......

And Pretty much every longer series could use a brotherhood or Kai edition. Series like Naruto and more so One Piece desperately need it.

That's kind of a dumb rule. Especially if DBZ is indicative of all anime over 26 eps. You're missing out on the Gundam series, which are light on filler and in the ~49 ep range, as well as other long shonen that aren't endless like YYH and HxH

Lol talking about Naruto and getting mad at filler lol....
Yeah at least get mad at how badly the characters are portrayed and the shitty ass pulls and power creep and how badly Hinata gets written and how irrelevant people not named Naruto and Sasuke become and how asinine the fucking Sharingan powers become like I did. And then read the manga and go ballistic by how fucked to shit the fucking ending is and then read Naruto Gaiden and see the future of the franchise.

Yeah pretty much...

Hopefully but fans have already made episode edits with all filler cut out. Shippuden edited comes to around 120 episodes iirc.

Final arc... I doubt it. Don't forget Naruto is coming back as Boruto/Part 3 this year!
Get ready for another year of filler before the new season.

Thats understandable though, as the manga has not even started. This is the thing with weekly shounen shows. You either go at a ridiculously slow pace like OP or have fillers like Naruto. I can see why shows are now season based.

I stopped watching a couple of years ago.The amount of fillers was just too much for me.Maybe I'll get back to it one day, when the show is over.

Yu Yu Hakushu and Hunter x Hunter are the best Shounen manga/anime series including Full Metal Alchemist (+Brotherhood). You are doing yourself a diservice by not watching them.

at this rate y'all could just read the manga, then watch the Naruto the Last/Boruto movie, read the Naruto gaiden short manga, and the recently released Orichimaru/Mitsuki side story and have enough time to play Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4...
