I wish we could get another Yu Yu Hakusho

a shounen anime based on an ongoing manga with no filler that actually finished all the way and without taking multiple year breaks in between, what a miracle.

Then the arc ended with Naruto farting on a beetle, gooood times. At least I got to see the sheer utter crapulence that was Tiger Mizuki in the process of going through 1 season of filler hell.

Scary thing about the filler in shippuden is how it gradually sneaks its way into canon material instead of being isolated in its own story arcs, this happens on the regular when you hit the ninja war arc so basically any time the team of Kiba/Hinata/Shino are actually doing something you can safely assume that you've planted one foot into filler territory because we all know Kishi doesn't even give them tablescraps in the manga.
That and it finally reaches Bleach territory of interrupting parts of actual arcs for completely unrelated stretches of filler.

Isn't filler pretty much the only time the side characters don't heavily job? Which is the episode where Naruto gets beat up by a shinobi ostrich cause I just have to see that shit.

It's just she never had that much screen time. And also I have feeling the technique would be useless against most Ninja.

Naruto is a great universe even if it isn't well told and has a lot of problems. It's full of fun characters and powers. At the end of the day I found it to be really awesome, and I liked the fan serviced' Manga ending.

Not only did they animate that flash back well over a year ago, but they padded it out using filler which is very à propos considering the thread topic.

Are they still in Tsunade's Infinite Tsukuyomi dream? Or, worse, in Jiraya's tale inside Tsunade's dream? Anyways that shit us like the fourth or fifth out of ten or eleven Tsukuyomi dream panels in the manga, so still a looooot of filler potential. Inb4 Naruto Shippuuden ends in 2020.
 
Naruto was Inception before Inception was Inception, what with inserting a flashback within a flashback within a filler episode.

Hey guys, how many times do YOU want to see Naruto and Sasuke fly at each other with their jutsus while Sakura runs at them in slow motion? Because we want to show that scene to you even more than that!

They still are. But now I believe it's back to pointless flashbacks of things that happened over 5 years ago in the timeline and are not relevant whatsoever and the animation is utterly shocking. I like the series when I skip the filler and with the movies, but the filler ( except for like a couple of episodes ) is pretty much utter shite.

Also worth noting that Crunchyroll (amongst some other stuff) legally and officially streams like everything nowadays, Naruto of course included, in an up to date manner. So there's absolutely no need for streaming to be piracy nowadays (though I'm sure a lot of people unfortunately still do purely out of momentum from when piracy was the only way to be up to date).

Naruto part 1 was perfectly normal lowish levels of filler until the valley of the end and the decision of "let's leave it on air, it took us 26 episodes to get this slot we don't want to have to fight for it again" rather than "put it on hold for 3 years when we might have enough material".

This site is enlightening. From the Cardcaptor Sakura having more filler but isn't ruined by filler revelation to that fact that Dragon Ball Z had about 3 times less filler (instead opting for sometimes glacial pace which Shippuden did do to start with and it was excruciating too...).

I was also surprised to see Ranma ½ actually managed to have a bearely higher filler %age than Naruto and do it in only 4 years.

I believe Ultimate Ninja storm having fights before the anime is nothing new. At least I seem to remember Sage mode Kabuto was there before it was in the anime.

Jiraiya using the Rasengan as a powerboat in the Ninja postman episode and Naruto's comment along the lines of "Rasengan sure is some overpowered, multipurpose technique" I wonder if thar was a joke on the writers part about those previous episodes or the fact that in that episode Jiraiya was using it as the solution to all problems.

I'm sure it'll end abruptly like the Sand village hosts the Chuunin exams arc featuring the sand villages very own original character, do not steal; Reck Loo (or whatever his name was maybe I should be cheer that there are more than two taijitsu only ninja...).
 
In the end, filler > incredibly slow pacing, because on rewatch you can just opt to avoid the filler episodes. One Piece is basically unwatchable now. :|

The worst is when an episode is half filler and half canon though.
 
Why do so many adult people watch this in America? Even 10 years ago I knew it's awful, childish shit with goth kids being considered cool.

Why cant shows like Naruto just take a break like normal tv shows and cartoons. have an arc be a season then take the rest of the year off to left the manga get ahead.

Considering filler killed the bleach anime I don't think that will always work. I think there is a reason most other shows operate this way. Id rather have nothing for a year and wait for a new season than have filler thats wasting everyone's time.
 
It's sad that this shit happens. I was lucky i was able to watch whole Naruto whenever i wanted, because all of it had aired by the time i started watching. I recently begun watching Shippuden and hoping that it was going to finish soon, so that i can watch it all. But it seems that's not going to be the case at all. Why do they even do all these fillers? Don;t they only lose more and more fans with that?

I have heard that Japanese audiences liked it better than they did The Last which they hated.

But regardless, Naruto's ratings have been shit for the past year, it's amazing they're still going.

Edit: Oh, are they going to animate Naruto's Day He Became Hokage. I laughed when I saw that Kishimoto had him miss it.
 
Any indication of when they are actually going to continue the normal anime though? Shit like this should not even be allowed. Should be a limit to it. I can't imagine having to wait every week and hoping that it finally is a real episode. Yeah I can understand why people just quit watching it. But I guess there's still plenty of loyal watchers, otherwise they wouldn't get away with it.

I stopped watching a while back I really enjoyed The Last and the Boruto movie. The animation quality is really good.

Welp. I just started watching this on Crunchyroll. I'm on episode 40-something, where Naruto is fighting Orochimaru. I guess I know what I have to look forward to for the rest of the series...

I always wondered how there could be 400+ episodes of this thing and it's still going. Now I know.

Boruto was liked by fans worldwide and is often regarded as the best Naruto movie. Ratings have gone down because of filler, it will come back once they finally animate the final arc. That one shot is going to be included with the Boruto DVD as a short OVA.
 
Seconding the My Hero Academia recommendation, by the way! The author is a fan of western comics, and MHA is a merger of western and Japanese comics that avoids the bad parts of both.
 
Yep. Never got into it. I got most of the story from playing the games.

My rule of thumb if an Anime series is over 26 episodes....I'm probably not watching it. I grew up watching DBZ though. But never again. Dat filler.
