See, in my world, iPhones wouldn't be restricted to AT&T.
Also, you can still buy second-hand iPhones. I just don't want to put up with jailbreaking. I want this stuff to be open to anyone anywhere.
Why won't my perfect world come true?

Thanks. I cant wait until the iPhone is no longer atAshhong said:iphone owners pay nothing for firmwares
Instead it apparently revolves around iPhone users. I can't wait to hear "What's playing iPhone?" and "Play more like this!" every 5 seconds, you just know they are going to be the types to over-use voice commands.claviertekky said:Pay for it or don't pay for it.
If you want one, go buy one.
The world doesn't revolve around you!
I would think they would do a two-tiered strat or just for the lower specs. If you're a business man you don't want to alienate 40 million existing users, do you?v4gr4nt said:So, it is practically confirmed that it has a faster processor and more RAM? If it is, are they going to be Apps that take advantage of that that would make them incompatibles with the 2G?
Please say no !

My contract is u around the end of the year and I don't have an iphone. I'm excited to see if this will entice me.

I contemplated this too as I have T-Mobile prepaid. I pay $15/month on my cell phone bill overall.Jasoco said:See, there you go. $100 for an iPhone. But you still have to pay for the service. And that varies wildly depending on your plan. Sadly, there isn't a plan cheap enough for me to afford.
My sister and her boyfriend have iPhones. But they pay $70-90 a month. I barely use the one I have. If I had an iPhone, I'd probably be using the internet part more than the talking and texting.
Here's what I get right now.
Every month, I get 150 units for $15. It's automatically added.
But I don't use 150 minutes worth of talking or 300 text messages worth. So my units add up. They roll over every month. Adding to the total.
Right now I have 1518 units. 300 of those were added when I bought the new phone and had them transfer my number. (Since the phones come with 300 minutes)
If I'm lucky, I might have a conversation that takes 45 minutes. But that only happens once in a blue moon. Most of my calls take 1-3 minutes each. And even then not even 1 minute, that's just what I get charged even if it's a 20 second call.
So if AT&T offered a plan where I could pay $15 a month for talk/text time and a separate set of plans for data for nominal fees, I'd probably jump on it. No way could I afford $70 a month for anything. Not right now at least.
I'm not seeing anything here yet.Buckethead said:Damn, Apple.com is updated already. Looks sexy.
As a 3g owner, I agreeMarty Chinn said:Then how about they give at least voice dialing to 3G users because that would be extremely useful in a car these days.

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTE2OTU"For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB).
Pre is cheaper because of the contract, but the new 3GS appears as if it'll be a bit faster browsing the web and with better battery life.Jonm1010 said:So I didnt watch or listen. Was the new phone enough to justify returning my Pre, and jumping to AT&T and getting an Iphone?

It's just not that different, and I really hate the glossy plastic.
