Every OS should. Even Windows and Linux. It should be an industry standard feature with scheduling built in and smooth transitioning between when the time changes from day to night.

I'm definitely not a fan of the new Apple TV Remote; I don't feel like I have good control with it at all. The Shield TV Remote is the perfect remote for this kind of device.

I really hope macOS's Dark Mode actually affects the system and not just the dock and menubar now. I mean it's pretty much useless except for aesthetics now. I'm in Safari all the time and I don't even see its affects in fullscreen anyway.

Sure it can.
Look at how well Apple do with supporting older iPhone and iPad with software.
A model is generally good to go for 3/4 software revisions before it becomes slow and clunky.
