XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

As someone who was interested in this for PC gaming on the odd games that kb/m isn't welcome to me, and who has spent $200 on a keyboard and $100 on a mouse, I will not pay $150 for this controller. For some reason, it's just too damn much that I can't even reason with. Maybe if it was my primary device... naw. Too damn much. That's a shame. $99.99 would have been the sweet spot I think. Yeah, it's only $50 difference, but when you get old like me it comes to principal.

I missed the repercussions at the time, but this is actually a huge turn off for me.

One of the main things I like about console multiplayer versus PC is that everyone is on an even playing field. This makes a mockery of that and now if someone out manouevers me in Halo, or whatever, my first thought would be, 'Bet they have the elite controller if they are hitting buttons that quickly' not, 'nice move, my worth opponent'.

If they'd priced it as a replacement, my complaints would have been minimal, but as an elite controller with the price tag to match, they just ensured I stay away from the XBO until this thing is the bundled standard controller at the very earliest.

Except it isn't, and never has been. Unless you think I should play on a crappy connection instead of a lightning fast one, or use a small tv instead of a crystal clear fast large one, or play without location perfect surround sound, or or or.

Flipping over a controller is silly, crappy players are still crappy. It isn't until you hit the upper reaches of skill where smaller differences start mattering more. When the difference between two players is a gigantic gulf of experience, what controller they're holding isn't relevant. When it's two players who are incredibly tightly matched, it might.

Generally, it's more important that you use what you're comfortable with, from couch setup down to controller.

This looks great. Shame about the price. I think I'm going to have to wait for a major discount. I simply can't justify dropping nearly half of what I paid for the full console on one controller.

Because it was made for a group in mind that will buy it, just like any other premium product, not only on Tech, but like it is On Apparel, watches, shoes, cars, etc is like asking why apple is making a 10k+ watch, when they also have one much cheaper.

I think you'll find that the $10k apple-watch is selling to absolutely no one. even the base model is not a popular product. people aren't stupid, no one wheres wrist watches anymore. even for $5 a wrist watch appeals to nobody.

The thing that always surprises me in these threads is how many people seem to think the cost of an item is based just off the cost of its components. If that was the case, why aren't digital games free?

Anyways I'm too much of a casual gamer to be able to appreciate controllers like these, so they are not for me, but I can understand why someone would pick them up, just like someone would pay for high end audio visual equipment.

Normally I'd be all over this, even with the price tag - but gen 1 of any of these types of things usually are a wash. No doubt in my mind I will instantly hear about bumpers falling off, rubber coming off, etc.

I am a hardcore PC gamer. I paid $10 for my back-lit keyboard. $10 for my gaming mouse with snazzy blue and red lighting. anything much higher than that is just too much.

The premium for more expensive mice and keyboards is justified. You being ok with low end parts doesn't reflect on the popularity and understood value of more expensive gear.

Anyway I think this controller is too much for me but I can understand the price point. Though IMO the components better last 99% of whoever buys it for 10 years without degrading.

You are missing my point, it doesnt have anything to do with how much they sold, but the fact that they have different versions of the same product with different markup prices, because it was made to catter an especific group.

Whats wrong for a company to make a premium product of something and use a premium price to sell it?

Lol I see people wearing apple wrist watches all over the place. They are sold out in most stores.

Do you go out much? No one where's wrist watches anymore? Lol are you in high school?

Either way this controller is expensive as shit it's nice as hell though

I really doubt considering this is not a mass sale product and controllers dont reall get price cuts.

This, do people honestly think MS isn't gonna judge preorders and make a relative safe amount for first batch. People think a price drop will happen but this won't even be on many stores shelves it'll simply be something that if you want it it's available to you to order. I honestly don't expect more then a few high profile Gamestops and Best Buys to carry them in store the rest will be for order.

MS doesn't have expectations to sell units so theirs no reason to drop a price. Eventually people will understand the way the hobby they seem to be so invested in works.

It's a pity that the controller doesn't have dedicated quick save/load buttons as I'm currently playing The Witcher 3 and my constant saving OCD is really kicking in hard and the menu-hell is really starting to annoy me. A single button press saving system would literally save my so much time, especially in open world games. That would be a feature which would definitely be worth $150 of my money.

I am 32. maybe I'm fraternizing with the wrong people, but in my experience wrist watches went out of style long ago. if I want to know the time, I check my phone.

This controller really looks elite.

From all the previews I've heard of Steam controller they've said that it feels cheap, but has solid build quality. More solid perhaps than the PS4 and Xbone controllers.

Define "good"...

We are talking about competitively play here. My KB/M/Mousepad combo is over 300 easily.

This whole thread is non-enthusiasts basically saying that enthusiasts gear is worthless even though they have never used any or competed on a high level (admittedly).

Its very strange...

Just because you spent $300 on a mouse/kb doesn't mean you can't get something just as good for cheaper.

Most of the best gaming mice aren't even $100. If they are, then you're just paying for the brand. And I don't see how your mechanical keyboard with the same switches as another mechanical keyboard would be any better if it was $200.

Except even the vanilla Xbone controllers have great build quality, so you have no basis in reality with your statement.

Watches have been back in for awhile now. Lots of people are wearing wrist watches again. They are absolutely back in style and have been for years now.

Nixon watches kill it in design and sales, and smart watches are booming for people not into watches for style.

It's funny most people who wear watches wear them for the exact reason you don't. They don't like having to remove phone from pocket to check the time, it is much simpler to look at your wrist.

Can you tghten the sticks?

The paddles are cool, but 159 (same as my mouse and keyboard combined), and still ooisey goosey sticks is a lolno.

You had me and you lost me. (and this is coming from someone who spent almost $200 on a Das Keyboard)

I spent a little more than this on my keyboard... this is way to high.

90 bucks is probably an OK price for this, but more than double the price of a typical controller is outrageous... They should have at least done $120 (or what ever the price of two X1 controllers are)
