XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

Controllers dont change mental capability of teamwork, tactics, strategy, etc It can raise the ceiling for potential, but it alone isnt going to make anybody better.

none of that you mentioned is what i'm talking about. being able to move and do things quicker and more efficiently is what's going to increase for those that use the controller.

all those other things... yeah, if they don't have that they'll still suck at it but at least they will be marginally better movement wise.

I could see them being used for assigning weapons or gear in, say, Fallout 4. Wish this were already possible.

That too, but much more. They can be used for anything while still retaining camera control. This might not seem like much, but it's big.

You'd be surprise how much we tend to give up control of our cameras momentarily just so we can perform an action in game that is not mapped to the shoulder buttons. Target acquisition will be faster, bigger button combinations are possible. This is all around a great innovation. Of course, I don't think they work as independent buttons just yet. But they could in the future!

it's going to give a nice bump to competitive games for sure and the younger generation coming into console shooters for the first time will be that much better from the start.

However, 4 buttons on the back for people used to using face buttons is not an easy transition. I've still not been able to use 2 buttons on the back, only 1 for jumping. I'm hoping with the elite i can finally do 2.

No, it's not going to be easy. It will take time until people become familiar enough with them to use them effectively. First few games are going to use them for basic functions until people have had time to acclimate themselves to it, then the real interesting applications will come.

My Amazon order recently updated to "Arriving Tuesday by 8pm" instead of just on the 27th.

Yup

My controller says arriving Tuesday now, too.

It's kinda weird that that changed but Halo 5 limited still says "arriving Oct 27."

I'm so ready. When I play with a regular controller now, I twiddle my fingers on the back of the controller and say to myself "I could be doing something productive with these little piggies soon."

No. I don't actually do that, but I wouldn't look at anyone sideways if they did.

Damn you guys! No movement yet on my MS Store purchase. I'm thinking about calling them tonight.

Microsoft Tech Support 1: "Oh god, another one calling about this damn controller..."

Microsoft Tech 2: "Hey Janine, just tell him that they're shipping out Friday. Leave B-shift to handle that shit"

Has this been posted? It's the button mapping software. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfcLpvnlERo

This is going to be available on Oct 27th right??? because according to the video it's only for preview members and we all know that thing isn't going Live until sometime mid-late november, possibly december.

soooooo this Elite better be ready to go with all it's features

I'm already trying to get a xo controller for my PC, I would absolutely pay $50 more for this, but $100? For that price you'd think the PC adapter would be included. I just hate getting the one that is missing so many new features.

I don't know this, but have they said if the Elite paddles will be compatible with Windows 10 at launch?

The hardware and controller itself I am sure will be fine, but any of the software mapping of buttons may not be.

Anyone know?

I need your help eurogaf (more specifically germangaf). The girlfriend of my best friend asked for an idea for a birthday present for him. (his birthday is on the 30th of october) and her limit is 130€.
Is there some place which will deliver this beauty by then for a slight discount ;)
MS-Store says 26th of October will be the release date. Is that still true? the previous pages here are somewhat confusing...

Game Informer just put something up

The Xbox One controller is praised for its form and function, and is more than capable of handling the wear of the average gamer. But with the rise of competitive gaming, some now demand more from their controllers, causing the majority of pros to play on pricey custom controllers molded to their specific playstyles. In response, Xbox has forged a partnership with industry leader Scuf Gaming to produce the Xbox One Elite wireless controller, which releases on October 27 for $150.

To appeal to more than just the mainstream gamer, Xbox has made nearly every aspect of the Elite controller customizable. You can easily peel the magnetic d-pad and sticks off the face of the controller and change them out for different ones. The gamepad also features hair trigger locks, giving you more control over the triggers’ range of motion. Since the hair triggers are adjusted with a flick of a switch, the Elite has a clear advantage over Scuf’s offerings; the third-party manufacturer requires you to use a special tool to open the controller to adjust the triggers.

The programmable paddles, which allow you to use the face buttons without taking your thumb off the sticks, are also removable, but they come in handy for several games. Retraining yourself to use them is tough, but braving the learning curve is worth it. My first matches in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare didn’t go well, but soon I was raking in kills while airborne. In Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, mapping the sprint button to a paddle let me keep my thumb on the right stick and do a better job of steering Marcus through the labyrinth of waist-high walls. With Mortal Kombat X, the multidirectional d-pad offers more precise combination input, but the paddles got in my way more than they helped so I removed them after the first match.

The Accessories app allows you to further personalize the controller. Using deep customization options, you can change the button mapping, adjust the sensitivity and the ramp-up speed for each stick, set the sensitivity for each trigger, and even change the rumble intensity of each motor. You can save these configurations to your system and easily set them as the controller’s default within the app or using the built-in profile switch as you jump from game to game.

Play Like The Devs

The Xbox Accessories app, which allows you to customize your controller’s configuration, also features several preloaded configurations for certain games and situations straight from the developers themselves. As of now, the app features four different configurations for Halo 5, two for Forza 6, and one for Sunset Overdrive. Going forward, developers can update this app with their preferred configurations.

The Elite’s stainless-steel components and four paddles immediately differentiate it visually, and the rubberized grips and perfectly balanced weight make it even more comfortable to hold than the already exceptional stock gamepad. Even after long gaming sessions, the Elite still feels great in your hands.

The Xbox One Elite controller is one of the most versatile controllers ever released, but it’s meant for the hardcore gamer. At $150, it’s an outstanding premium option that holds several advantages over Scuf’s pads. However, if you just want a more comfortable controller and don’t plan on digging into the tuning options or learning to use the paddles, you can probably save some cash by using aftermarket products to modify your existing gamepad.

So is there any chance that will be available in stores BEFORE Tuesday? I really don't want to take time away from Halo 5 to go get the controller and I purchased H5 digitally.

If someone breaks street date, but I don't even think you will see any on the shelves on Tuesday. This seems rather limited.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but anyone with an Astros gaming headset planning on getting this?

I just got one and haven't been able to hook it up to my xbox due to not thinking ahead to get the necessary cables. I'm in the process of getting these shipped now, but everything should work the same as the day one controllers right?

GameInformers piece is basically a press release with no information on it... Clear the embargo dropped today and they wanted to get something out there.

Engadget review sounds good, but wtf with their criticism of the existing Xbox One controller? I think they're in a minority for thinking it's worse than the X360 controller. Also the 3 of the cons for the new one... "Feels heavy at first," when their criticism in the 2nd paragraph of the regular X1 controller is that it's too light... And customization options could be overwhelming for some? That's the whole point, it's not a general use controller, and so it's gonna have a ton of options.

Wait...

Pros:
Feels great in-hand; very grippy finish throughout
Loads of customization options

Cons:
Feels heavy at first
Customization options could be overwhelming for some

It's like Engadget was trying to come up with cons other than price, so they just said "Well, let's take the Pros and say 'some people might not like these' and call them cons."

Do you just have the headset or do you have the mixamp or the controller mixamp?

I bought the ps4 version a50 so it didn't come with either.
I've since purchased a xbox chat adapter and 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter (Some how this worked out cheaper)

EDIT: and a friend just let me have his AG1 cable -____-

Controller looks great, but with two original 360 wireless pads still chugging along with regular pc use, I'm going to have to wait for a price drop and I would also like to see how the controller holds up after long term use.

You wouldn't need the chat adapter for the newer xbox one controllers and this elite controller.

So this item is practically soldout.....Does anyone remember this thread when the price was revealed? I was going to do a wall of shame on people mocking the price, but, I just selected a group predicting how this was going to bomb........Pernello even came in to explain people about this.

$150?

Ouya-level sales incoming.

I see it being discontinued rather quickly...

Will buy one when they flop at retail and drop to $90ish. They look cool as hell.

Guarantee that the price drops shortly after release.

Will wait for the clearance sale

I'll wait to get this until it's clearanced out of retailers when no one buys it.

The only way anyone could ever have thought this controller would fail is because of ignorance.

The dedicated hardcore gamers who this controller is aimed for already go nuts over third party Scuf controllers. And Scuf controllers are hella expensive, if you wanted one with ALL of the features of the Elite controller, it would ring up about ~$230 (last time I checked anyway).

And now they get an official first party version, with every feature imaginable, for $150? It's a steal.

Ya, I always thought that that was a strange reaction to the price considering the capabilities. Paddles on the back make it so you don't have to take your fingers off the sticks, making you a more accurate and competitive player, button mapping, exchangeable parts.

It's so far beyond the normal controller that of course anyone who is even the least bit interested in being competitive online or anyone who loves keymapping on PC games would buy one of these.

Literally got an email saying my Amazon order is good for release day shipping now.

Trying to cancel the GameStop order, but looks like I need to call them.

I called GameStop game service. And the woman put me on hold to check their stock and she told me that you should be able to just walk in to GameStop and purchase the controller day 1. I was having a hard time understanding her accent so I clarified and said "So I dont need a preorder, and should be able to just walk in and buy it." and she told me that is correct.

Just trying to help if any of you all are rushing to make pre-orders online.

You never know man, there was that one guy who legit played CS:GO with a pad... in comp... and I think he outranked me. :(

EDIT: Oh shit, I think that guy you quoted actually is him...

He abused the aim assist essentially giving him free wallhacks.

It's no surprise that once they patched that out he became interested in playing with GAF, even circumventing his ban to get someone to post for him.

Trust me, we've played enough CS together. You are far better than him. There's a reason he's deranked like 4 ranks down since that patch, because he never belonged that high to begin with.

Gamestop's customer service is terrible. They won't tell why they can't cancel my still "open" order and reverse the pending charge. They haven't shipped it yet.
